The old man jumped off his bike so no injuries, the Discover 150 guy lost lots of skin, since he got hit from both sides and was immediately taken to the hospital, Pratheesh bro was riding Athul bro's SZ-R so we both flew together, Pratheesh bro was wearing Athul bro's cheap helmet so it flew off before the impact . I was riding safely on Pratheesh bro's back so had only minimal injuries, a small booboo on my left tiny finger and a sprain on my right hand. Cant say the same for Pratheesh bro, he was bleeding profusely, but was still as fit as horse. Another funny thing was, my specs was intactly resting on the Discover 150's swingarm when we got up from the fall.

    Total Damages to SZ-R

    Broken left tank fairing.

    • I dont understand mileage issues here with many people. I never faced such issues. I never got mileage below 40 kmpl under all conditions.

I recently went for a fairly high-speed ride with my friend, the rough mileage i calculated was more than 40 kmpl and bike is yet to hit reserve. So it should be around 45 kmpl. I ride on city as well as highways.

I would suggest you guys to check the petrol bunker, petrol thief, and even check your riding style. Mileage mostly depend upon the riding style. So please check out your riding style.

      Cheers!

        • maybe u r lucky enough to get 50kmpl.

I have ridden bikes for 12 years now, I am very much ok with my riding style. I fill petrol at a reliable bunk which sells top quality Indian oil petrol.also, I tried it with different bunks around the city. I checked the damn mileage more than 50 times in my total speedo reading of 4300kms. The bike was serviced on time every time. Never driven beyond 4.5k RPM. No extra noise from the engine.
The max mileage I got was 48kmpl only once. It behaves like an FZ (obviously). FZ is know for its pathetic fuel returns. Yamaha is the best manufacturer but it does not meet the requirements on an Indian commuter, it neither does provide a proper spec about any of its products in india.

          • Also i found that the plastic used in SZ-R are of very cheap quality still very costly, flimsy plastic, also the chain cover is also plastic, very light weight material. No offence to any SZ-R users,I thought Karizma has the worst plastic quality, comparing to this,Karizma has good plastic parts.

            @ Sathish77

Bro adjust the AFR screw and you will notice the difference,Had anyone tuned your bike before?

I don't know why but my experience with the Indian Oil petrol bunks has never been good. I have tried in various cities like Indore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and found the Indian Oil bunks not good. I always had mileage problems whenever I refueled at Indian Oil.

I always go with HP petrol bunks. Never faced any mileage issues with HP. Has anyone else faced a similar problem with Indian Oil??
Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)

              • Tuning?

Yeah thats what i am planning to do. TUNE the engine. as i am not biking savvy, can someone let me know how to do it. is there any negative effects on engine life and performance? i m sure that others users who handle the bike in a not-so-good manner get better mileage. i really suspect something wrong in the engine functioning. i have a feeling that petrol flow is struck at times and you feel the bike pulling back and hopping even on 5th gear.
can that be the cause of it? also i hear that engine firing sound often.
though i fill 5lit petrol and ride, i have a feeling like the tank has hit reserve because of that petrol flow not being smooth.

really wondering wat to do. change the oil? (last change-2nd service 3000km, current reading 4600km)
                tune the engine?
ask SVC to check the petrol flow?
                any carburettor cleaning required?

                i got no idea..

1600 kms completed ,Do an oil change,It will be good.

                  tune the engine?
We cannot tune an engine,We can tune the carburetor,Tell the Mechanic(ASS) to tune the carb for optimal setting equal performance and equal mileage.

ask SVC to check the petrol flow?
Tell them about your problems and ask them whether we need to check the fuel lines or not.

                  any carburettor cleaning required?
Guess its not needed now,as your bike is not so old,its not needed.

Well you are not alone my friend, I too had similar issues with Indian Oil Petrol Pumps. Shifted to HP and I fill only from HP company petrol pump and not from a private owner petrol pump. So far so good, right quantity and good quality fuel from HP.

Mine's also cheap bro. These motocross helmets are the worst no protection at all. I just bought mine, cause nothing else would fit my head.

We were riding 40~50 at the time of impact i.e even after jamming the brakes. Even though the rear brake was somewhat functional due to the vertigo's the friend was utterly useless thanks to the TVS tyres.

Though ethically the old man's the wrong doer, technically the blame's on us.
Cause always the ride with the dented front end is to be blamed. You'll know the exact reason by the time you get you'r licence.

                        • Did 345 kms of solo ride on my SZ-R, went to Kaas and Thoseghar Waterfall. Ride quality was top notch. Biked performed superbly! Managed to top the speed upto 110 kmph and still I had something left but did not accelerate further. And I did not redline on every gear, according to me redlining on each gear takes up high amount of fuel.

On the ghats it was even better thanks to very good low end torque. Mileage will be surprising to many, My bike still to still to hit reserve, filled up upto 10.5 liter petrol with 2 liter was already present. Before the ride I traveled about 55-60 kms in the same fuel. The mileage should be more than 45 kmpl. Avg speed on highway on highway 60-70 kmph. The bike was ultra butter smooth during my entire journey. I did not even hear engine noise at 60 kmph due to wind noise. No vibs on high speed at all. Overtaking at the speed of 80 kmph was done with ease. This is exactly what I wanted from my bike.

Clicked loads of photographs, thinking of starting Photo Feature thread on The Tourer section.

                          Cheers!

I already did. I stuck black stickers as vertical stripes. Jus like the way they do it in pulsar. Go to a number plate sticker shop and ask him to paste vertical stripes with a small gap b/w each stripe, it really looks cool. some ppl stick something in the middle of the windshield , they also write names but those look awful.
