        Cool!

I have a question here for the other SZR owners. I am now into my second service. My bike cluch is now set to the tip end in second service. I went to SVC twice to get it adjusted and they said clutch adjustment is okay to be at the very end, instead of middle or nearer to the handle which will make it half clutch.

Also I sometimes get a single or few small backfires from silencer, very rarely, like when I give sudden throttle and brake or when I start bike in morning. Is this normal??

What do you mean by backfire? please elaborate more.

          • Today, I saw an SZ running with a K&N filter. The exhaust sound was very faint. Sounded like crackling. At lower revs, the exhaust sound is barely audible at all. Anybody here gone in for K&N?

I think backfire means, when you open throttle sometimes the engine misses and you feel engine has stopped working.
This is like the engine note changes from usual "vroooom" to a sudden "phat-phat" and then again to "vrooom".

I had this issue few days back with my gladiator, when I changed its spark plug. Traveled almost 50 kms that day and was constantly getting a "phat -phat" sound after throttling for some time. But that stopped from the next day.
Any idea what could have happened? Thinking of getting a service done, its almost 42000 kms.

              Cheers.

Do you mean the effect seen when you hit reserve? Like the engine dying sound? That issue was resolved on my bike after changing the spark plug adapter to a different model's adapter. You can try replacing it.

No, there is no loss in engine power or a feel like it will die soon.
Its kind of like when you pull the throttle full and suddenly leave it, there is that unburnt fuel which escapes or something., not sure, but it will be like phat-phat, especially when I am like at 60+kmph and brake down and clutch down, it gives a distinct small decibel sound.

Is it got anything to do with fuel mixture, or spark plugs?

Yes, that's what it means. I also feel its something to do with fuel mixture, not sure though. Seniors here may help answering.
As vikhyath said about spark plugs, that might also be the reason as I had the exact issue the day I got a new spark plug. Anyway does changing spark plug will improve the performance? I always thought spark plug is needed to start your bike only.

No spark plugs are not only required to start an engine but to keep the engine running in every cycle of combustion.

I'm no expert but if you happen to visit the SVC next time, ask if the spark plugs adapter(caps) of other bikes fit onto your bike. If so, try it and check. Not sure if this will solve your problem but just my opinion.

Felt unsure, so been to the SVC again today, and asked the mechanic about this.

He said its normal, since its govt. rules to keep vehicles emission under check the vehicle carburetor normal setting is infact a bit of lean burn, so it even gives better mileage. That its nothing to worry unless I get a huge single Phat sound or feel like engine suddenly goes off and comes to life, in such case its spark plug gap issue or some other problem can be there which needs to get checked.,
I said its nothing like that, he said your vehicle has not run much, so wait for atleast 2000km or next service, if the issue persists we will do detailed inspection,.

He asked when this occurs, I said generally in morning, when I start or ride etc. So he said it maybe due to very cold air and new air filters which might be letting in good amount of air when I ride on highway, and less fuel is going in, said after a while it will become normal, so for now if I want him to he will set a bit of more fuel to flow that way it will be fine and I can be sure its nothing else of a problem.

I told him not to, said let it be in company setting and came back home. I did not want them to screw up my mileage by altering carb. settings or until I heard from here from some expert!

No ways, everyone here knows not to put K&N, its as well you dont put any air filter and run the bike, one and the same!!

Well seems like my bike air filter is already running lean(from what the SVC guys made me believe from my recent issue), and sounds like having an K&N when I rev the engine above 5000rpm, so why would I want to alter it and spoil the fun!

Its not like we buy this bike for performance, its a detuned FZ, if power was needed one can buy FZ and do what he wants right?

Yes, spark plugs dont improve performance. So its not needed to buy iridium plugs or twin spark plugs, and claims that it gives superb pickup or mileage is false news, even NGK doesnt claim that.

As far as I can recollect, a very good spark plug can help ignite fuel even when the engine is very cold which normal plugs cant do well, so you can start bike with one kick or easy self start without damaging the self mechanism. Also a good plug with proper adjustment and gap between the cam shaft head and the plug should ignite fuel at proper temp. making the combustion more complete and less soot deposits so your bike runs smooth without any jerk or struggle or create more toxic gases that harm environment.. Normally you must change spark plugs every 10000km.(My manual says that, every bike differs I guess).

                          • Guys......got my SZ-R yesterday morning (waited 15 days for blue color). Yamaha's were getting unloaded from truck and most of them were SZ-R only, no SZ and SZ-X. In my city and nearby area demand for SZ-R is good and picking up gradually.

I rode it just 10 km yesterday and today morning at 8 o'clock to test the bike's starting capability in winter (its cold here) i pressed the start button and to my surprise the bike started in second attempt without any chock.

Though I don't like this bike very much in terms of looks department but after riding it i can not stop admiring it. In looks i think it is 8/10 because others are saying that it looks cool especially in blue. At this price point(equal to P135) its a steal.

P135 is a 13.5 PS 4 valve bike so I guess the price point is justified.
