the smell i mentioned is really different from the ordinary burnt smell and like you said i hear the misfiring sound very frequently. i suspect the SVC has done some mistake while changing oil the last time they serviced the bike. my bad, i would probably spend 2-3 thousand rupees i guess. 2012 sucks!
Hmmm.. No, you cannot hold Yamaha liable for chain wear. The normal service is at interval of 3000km, but the service booklet also mentions to check basics before each and every ride, like your tyres for air pressure, clutch and cable play, brake pad, the chain for every 500km etc. which we can check easily but normally ignore and end up like what happend in your case.

Okay. Go to service center and say the engine misfires, gets heated a lot after previous service. They will adjust the settings (remember your mileage may reduce if done so but engine misfire, and overheating, vibration will all vanish).
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

MRF is the way to go. TVS sucks big time. Had hard time controlling my dio with TVS tyre on the rear.

Well its not a stunt, its an attempt of corner, an unsuccessful one.

And yes it done on stock TVS tires. About the grip of this tires are concerned, its pathetic on Pavor Blocks and on the Cement road. But on normal road it is good only if it is dry, on wet road, well I really dont want to comment on it.

              • confused

                Hi all,

                I am very confused now..
I have booked an SZX and going to get my bike on 28th Jan. Now, I came to know that Yamaha has now added a kicker to SZX and SZR. The SZR model with a kicker is out in the market is available but there is no news on when SZX with kicker hits the market (may be in a month or 2 , but yamaha has updated its site new SZX)...

I selected the bike after so much of research and headache and now I dont want to wait more...
Please suggest, is it advisable to wait or get my bike in 2 days....

I have never felt the need for the kicker. By any chance if the price of the bike doesnt change then you can get the kicker option. Or else, better off without it..

                      • White mudguard on black one looks hideous!

All the new bikes now comes with kicker! People who are cribbing over kicker can now see it installed and will try and find some more so called flaws

Thank you Prajnyan and Athul for the suggestion........ the new bike with the kicker is about 1500-1800 costlier...

My reading is way less at around 2000km, bikes due for 2nd service in 15days.

Recent Mileage reading (full tank to full tank) : Ran 400km in about 8.5lt petrol over a period of 20days. So thats almost 47kmpl in mixed ride condition.

                                Problems faced after first service:

                                1. Getting a strong smell like some rubber melts off when I started to revv my bike above 4000rpm, specially when I rev hard i.e around 6000-7000rpm. I called the Yamaha tollfree and they patched it to my SVC, and I got a call from them in just an hour or so. They asked me to get the bike, the mechanic at svc let the engine warm up first, then revved it at varying RPM's but that smell did never crop up, me wasting just the petrol. He concluded after 15-20min saying "Its nothing, maybe you felt the the powder coated paint smell or new gaskets must be setting so you may have got that smell and not to rev hard on an cold engine, which I never do".
                                2. Recently the gears shifts became a little hard i.e after about a month after first service so I topped up the engine oil as it was little over min mark then, I guess the service center only added 1lt oil at change, the engine capacity is 1.2lt, so after 100-150ml added now the gears shift easily and the engine is smoother and the smell has vanished, I wish I had checked the oil level and topped it up earlier.
                                3. Bike skids at slight chance of sand, gravel or water. So I am now keeping air pressure at 32psi instead of 35psi at rear, the front is still 28psi.
                                4. Sometimes slight misfires, but that can be ignored, atleast until next service.
