  • Hi,

My cousin bro looking for a bike for daily comute,

As he & me both are seduced by its looks....the clear/ transparent floating windshield, it looks fresh among all 150cc commuter out there.

My questions/doubts are (on behalf of him):-

    1. Those windshield comes installed by default with all SZ-x or -r version/ need to a pay premium for that ?

    2. Is it possible to get kick-start model only ? not want to pay fancy self-start feature.....or the kick start come by default ?

    3. Is this is a reliable bike for long run say at-lest 5-7+ years of usage ? Yamaha continue to producing spare for that long ? or discontinue like libaro/ybx/twin bulb bike (forget the name here) ?

    4. Tyres are tubeless ? No... right ?

    5. Is there a postion/parking lamp at the bottom Headlight assembly ?

    6. According to website as well as color offering, we are currently like SZX all black or SZR all silver.....we both loved for SZX all black treatment....though missed the disk.

My point here, those 2 color scheme are available ? Or they are premium color or something ?

    7. with extremely sedate driving in the city limit can we expect bike can give 45+ milage ?

    8. Crash guard/Saree guard comes as a standerd fitment or additional stuff ?

    9. The tank extension which is not look good from the front can be uninstall possible without void warranty ?

    10. what is the amber color indicator on the console ? A malfunction indicator ? for what ?
Please note :- Bike we are looking for with no racing instinct, no digital stuff/gadgets, extremely easy to maintain,no periodic maintenance, perform better than passion/glamour in pulling...but not expecting over 50+ milage but over 40-45 milage....and also reliable engine life 5-7 years...looking for no tention bike.

Can Yamaha SZ X/R bike deliver that.....

    Question to all owners.

N.B:- Already gone through some review like bike advice & zigwheels, above those question's answer is not there.

Chances from getting answer from the actual owner (which is ownership experience) is very thin here in this thread....

        Seems not so popular thread, there must be 2 reasons ;

        1. either this bike failed miserably and most owner here going to get rid of it anyhow.

        2. else a very tension free bike with damm reliable , nothing to write/talk about....a general (not so powerful comparing other 150s) good looking (not so same looking) commuter.

In my locality and surroundings, I noticed increasing number of this vehicle which deny my first point.

It is not Cats & Dogs like Passion/glamour/Shine/Unicorn....but it is there.

Hey it is one of the best bike in 150cc class and since the torque is good u can easily drive in the city...
It has a decent pick up but little less than pulsar150 but regarding the reliability issues yamaha is far better than bajaj pulsar...
Its top speed is 112 but it takes certain time to achieve it ....
And even The gear change in this bike is so smooth...,
I travelled around 102 kms in a stretch and i dint hav any back pain so i think so its the best bike for you and you can even test ride it to even know more about this bike...

What abt my back pain..... what is the height of the bike.... will it suits my weights?????
Why cannot consider GS150R? Surely go for a long test drive on it with a pillion rider to find out whether it is suitable for you.

Thanks a lot.....kirank1222, for replying all my query with patience, This exactly what I'm looking for....some initial assurance. Recently came to know that SZ R or X sharing most parts of it's bigger sibling FZ variants....so I presume this spare will not an issue in future. May be those plastic parts may not be available further down in future. <----please correct if I'm wrong.

Thanks for those line too....It helps, The guy who need this bike drove HH Passion and Street all the way as well as he enjoyed his fair share hooliganism with a RTR 160 and it ended with a crash.

Now as he matured/sedate got the Street & a 4 -wheeler....Hope this bike fits his bill perfectly.

Go for SZ-R...GS150R is a good bike but slightly on heavier side, which might not be that easy to handle in traffic conditions with pillion, as you already having back pain issue...anyway test ride and get to know the feeling and then decide...

                    • Differences?

I'm leaning towards the SZX, just 'cause it's available in all Black colour. Apart from the looks [slightly different] and front disc brake in the SZR, are there any other differences between the SZR and SZX? At least I couldn't find any on the Yamaha India website. Also, could owners please shed some light on real world mileage figures of the SZX/SZR?

                      Cheers,
                      Vikram

                        • Hi to All Xbhpians... required another help from all expert out there....

As I am 6.2" also weight around 100 kg

I just returned from the test drive of Yahama SZ-r here in delhi it is just 64,000 on road.

I must say I am impressed by the pick up....

Apart from above I like the style too...

Please advice me on the following queries of my mind...

                          1) how this bike will perform for me... ( by keeping my structure)
                          2) parts & maintenance of the bike for long run ????

Also there is one more question what is gear ratio

In SZ-R paper it is mentioned like this -
                          1st gear ratio = 2.174
                          2nd gear ratio = 1.789
                          3rd gear ratio = 1.318
                          4th gear ratio = 1.045
                          5th gear ratio = 0.916

what is all this.. please help me to know the details of above.

                          Thanks

Ans: This is not a racing bike but it has very good low end, excellent pickup. Pulling is very good too. Mileage I got between 45-50 kmpl , I never below 40 kmpl. Its Yamaha bike so reliability wont be issue.

Can Yamaha SZ X/R bike deliver that.....

                            Question to all owners.

                            1. Those windshield comes installed by default with all SZ-x or -r version/ need to a pay premium for that ?
Ans: No premium is needed it comes with the bike.

                            2. Is it possible to get kick-start model only ? not want to pay fancy self-start feature.....or the kick start come by default ?
Ans: All new models come with Kick Start.

                            3. Is this is a reliable bike for long run say at-lest 5-7+ years of usage ? Yamaha continue to producing spare for that long ? or discontinue like libaro/ybx/twin bulb bike (forget the name here) ?
Ans: I still see Yamaha Libero, YBX running on the road on almost all visible stock parts, so reliability should not be an issue, bike is built pretty decent.

                            4. Tyres are tubeless ? No... right ?
                            Ans: No Tubeles Tyres.

                            5. Is there a postion/parking lamp at the bottom Headlight assembly ?
                            Ans: No

                            6. According to website as well as color offering, we are currently like SZX all black or SZR all silver.....we both loved for SZX all black treatment....though missed the disk.
Ans: In my honest opinion, new colors of SZ-R are hideous! White cowl doesnt make any sense.

My point here, those 2 color scheme are available ? Or they are premium color or something ?
                            Ans: No premium color.

                            7. with extremely sedate driving in the city limit can we expect bike can give 45+ milage ?
Ans: Extremely sedate riding can fetch upto 50 KMPL if you have done proper running-in, run-in period is most important part of this bike, if you dont take it seriously then the mileage will be less for the future. Trust me, you will not ride it at 40 kmph everytime, the pickup is so good that you wont even realize that the speedo needle have crossed the economic zone.

                            8. Crash guard/Saree guard comes as a standerd fitment or additional stuff ?
Ans: Saree Guard comes with the bike, crash guard you have to fit in from the outside, it doesnt void any warranty.

                            9. The tank extension which is not look good from the front can be uninstall possible without void warranty ?
Ans: Its the trademark of this bike! Why to remove them?

                            10. what is the amber color indicator on the console ? A malfunction indicator ? for what ?
Ans: Manual Says, Its engine Mal-function indicator.

Ans: This bike is very good in traffic, also for weekend touring it is pretty handy tourer. I bought this bike for City ride but mostly used for small tours. Did nearly 350 kms ride in one day, did Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Mumbai twice with one way distance is 180 kms. Numerous rides to mountainous roads.

                            - My budget is not more than 80,000 Rs. ( Dont mind if I can save some money too, while getting some good bike with in 70,000 rs)

Pls put some lights on YAMAHA SS 125 and YAMAHA SZ-R.. i read many many great reviews here in xbhp.
Ans: I posted my yearly review of SZ-R few pages back, you can refer it.

                            2. else a very tension free bike with damm reliable , nothing to write/talk about....a general (not so powerful comparing other 150s) good looking (not so same looking) commuter.

I just returned from the test drive of Yahama SZ-r here in delhi it is just 64,000 on road.

I must say I am impressed by the pick up....

Apart from above I like the style too...

Please advice me on the following queries of my mind...

                              1) how this bike will perform for me... ( by keeping my structure)
                              2) parts & maintenance of the bike for long run ????

Also there is one more question what is gear ratio

In SZ-R paper it is mentioned like this -
                              1st gear ratio = 2.174
                              2nd gear ratio = 1.789
                              3rd gear ratio = 1.318
                              4th gear ratio = 1.045
                              5th gear ratio = 0.916

what is all this.. please help me to know the details of above.

                              Thanks

Gear ratio here means that for every complete rotation(360 deg) of the back wheel sprocket the number of rotation the front sprocket does. In initial gears, the chain makes more movement, this helps facilitate the load carrying, and reduces the stress on the engine too. A final gear ratio of about 0.916 suggests for every 0.9 movement of front sprocket, the back wheel completes 1 rotation. Bikes with more top speed generally has even lesser final gear ratio like 0.8 or so and initial ones around 2. You need not worry about this. The only key factors when purchasing the bike should be:

                                1. Handling and performance satisfaction.
                                2. Whether mileage is important criteria i.e if you cover like 100km just in city like for some sales executive, or if you ride only weekends like then mileage should not be deciding factor.
                                3. Servicing and reliability, maintenance cost.
                                4. Overall life of a vehicle, i.e you intend to resell soon or keep it for a very long time.
                                5. Initial cost of the bike you are ready to invest, dont just go for a loan amount if you really cant afford it, wait and save money, its always better.

There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.
