  • Bike Condition Report:
Odometer reading: around 6000 km / 8 months
Issues faced: Water getting into carb., Speedometer cable fell away, had it replaced.

Its a charm to ride it even after 8 months, but off late bike has a rough feel to it,may be because of fuel, I shifted from shell to Indian Oil and its not taking well, mileage had dropped by 10%.

Also it experienced first time wading through deep water when returning from college on the city outskirts, some amount of which got into the silencer. Had non stop riding on highway in rain,I left the engine running for few minutes before I switched it off after reaching home so that any water in silencer got evaporated..

Come next day the bike was not starting, had to rich the fuel mixture and after a few cranks it came to life, but to my dismay bike was hiccuping. Got it to the nearest SVC to know that little amount of water may have seeped in through the air filter when I was riding at high speeds, so wind may have carried water, and the paper filter got wet and some water drops could have leaked in, he drained the carb.

Although its pretty much fine now, mileage is down and bike still takes one or two deep cranks to start, its slow paced at low rpm. Took it back to SVC only to be told its all okay, nothing to worry at all. Oil level is fine, but needs change sometime soon, chain is lubed well, only thing I can think of is that could it be water got into bore? The SVC guy said highly unlikely, bike wouldn't start at all then and asked me to ride without thinking about it, and it should be fine. I presume either the air filter is all dirty and needs to be changed or I need to get the carb drained once more. What is it?

    • Once a paper element filter gets wet , you have to replace it immediately . It is not functional as an air filter now . Remove the carb bowl to drain it , not just drain it through the drain-tube . While you are at it, use the opportunity to clean the jets and all with carb cleaner .

What is your current milage after you encounter all the problem you wrote in that post?

Thanks Lalit.P for reply against my ques.....just noticed right now.

Sorry for non-response....thats kinda rude behavior.....I'm deeply sorry man.

As you rode the bike more than a year as well as you already contribute some decent feedback in this thread, my question is do you ever encounter the engine malfunction light glow and resists you to start the vehicle or something ?

I'm not familiar these bike, but Is it ever occur to you or any other owner that this light glows or anything and restrict the user doing engine start or anything.....please reply anyone.

Malfunction light on crab bike is ridicules, what is the purpose ? Or is it something like service interval reminder like some TVS bikes ?

Anyway thanks once again to Lalit.p for your patience for replying all my query.

            • Synthetic Engine Oil for Yamaha SZR

              Bikers @ xBhp,

My Yamaha SZR is almost 7k now, willing to go with some Synthetic Oil instead of regular Yamalube. Any suggestions on that?

And does changing engine oil normally void warranty???

Engine malfunction light comes with SZ, FZ, Fazer and even with R15. Keep your bike in top condition with regular services and dont worry about that light. That light is just an indication of something is not right.

Dont worry and ride it without any doubts.

And please dont be sorry for not replying to my post , I hope my reply helped you. Also that reply would have been helpful for some other guys who silently visit this thread for information.

                Cheers!

                  • Thanks pinakiji, well the bike is now up to its former self, though it's a bit rough, mileage had dropped down to 36kmpl, now back to normal. I checked today afternoon and its about 43kmpl (full tank reading way).

Thanks I'll get the air filter replaced coming week. I don't think I need to remove the carb, the bike starts on one press with choke in morning.

Go for the 15w50 yamalube semi synt. It's better than going for fully synt. It's cheaper and even I am planning next service to go for semi synt as fully synt is too expensive and I don't ride bike much in a service interval. It's better to keep changing oil every interval for warranty. Let me tell youabout the oil benefit once I try it.

                      • 7th Service done. Bike mileage was reduced to 25-30 kmpl, thanks to my sheer negligence. The bike was not serviced for 4 months due to some time consuming personal commitments.

Air filter was completely clogged, replaced the air-filter the SVC done some tuning and mileage is back to its original state. Bike is back to its original smoothness after oil change and much needed service.

I checked mileage reserve to reserve, and the mileage figure is 55 KMPL. Now to get this mileage you have to careful with your riding speed was 30-50 kmph and for few kms I ripped it above 80 kmph in lower gears. SZ-R's mileage is completely depend upon riding habits and proper run-in.

                        Cheers!

                          My 4th Service done today
Changed to SS 15w50, replaced air filter & oil filter
                          Total Bill : rs 860/-

Brake pads and disc was cleaned, clutch adjusted, chain tightened, should be okay with time. Yet the bikes performance at rpm below 4k is bad, sometimes stalls if I press clutch, but idle RPM is proper and fluctuates from 1300 to 1500, now what could be the culprit? Do you think its AFR, should I get my carb cleaned? Could this be due to the higher grade oil. I thought SS oil should make bike smoother, but bike still feels same as before I left it for service.
Service center guy told everything is fine, ride it for a day or two, if it still exists then we can check, but he ignored my tip to open carb, he said its nothing, dont meddle with carb, or mileage will get reduced. So any suggestion guys? And anyway I'll ride the bike and report back if the problem got solved on itself or I had to go back to SVC again. Also will let you know the mileage returned soon.

Is'nt xW50 too much for SZR??? AFAIK 180cc and above bikes only use xW450.What does your manual say?

Honestly it really doesnt matter what oil grade you use, what matter is when you use it. You should use Yamalube Mineral 20W40 during the run-in period, because mineral oils suits better for new engine for settling parts. If your bike is under warranty then stick to only Yamalube oil as suggested by Yamaha / SVC (Mineral or SS).

My personal experience with Yamalube Mineral is very good. Engine is smooth, gear shifting is smooth as well. I had plans to move to different manufacturer of oil, but later I thought if the bike is happy with Yamalube then why change it. ;-)

PS: I am talking in context of Yamaha SZ-R here.

                              • I like to ask a question here, I read the whole ownership thread but this que no one ask.....

Is it possible to install the attachment* in the rear grab rail mounting point of SZ-R/X version bike ?

                                * Here I'm going to describe the attachment. I searched the pic lot in the web but can't find one.

The attachment looks a oval shape ring with hook below from it, Hook used to carry grocery bag and the oval shape portion use for mount bungee rope hook.
It comes in black/red paint or nickel coated.

Mainly seen following bikes ; HH Glamour,Passion Pro,Discover 150, TVS bikes. This is after market fitment.

I can't spot any SZ-R/X with this fitment....Can any owner confirm (installed) that it possible to install this in SZ-R/X coz there is no way to carry grocery bag like stuff in this bike....unless hang from drive handle....doubt though due to side cowl,
