This exactly looks like when it installed hanging under the seat at the same area where the rear grab rail mounted. Mainly seen those bike who got similar rear grab rail of SZ-R/X. It mainly seen on those bike whom suffering from option to carry bag/grocery/shopping bag.

If anyone could answer this query, I am no expert to comment on anything. May be a cerb setting be culprit or something else. Anyone?Originally posted by prajnyan View PostMy 4th Service done today
Changed to SS 15w50, replaced air filter & oil filter
Total Bill : rs 860/-
Brake pads and disc was cleaned, clutch adjusted, chain tightened, should be okay with time. Yet the bikes performance at rpm below 4k is bad, sometimes stalls if I press clutch, but idle RPM is proper and fluctuates from 1300 to 1500, now what could be the culprit? Do you think its AFR, should I get my carb cleaned? Could this be due to the higher grade oil. I thought SS oil should make bike smoother, but bike still feels same as before I left it for service.
Service center guy told everything is fine, ride it for a day or two, if it still exists then we can check, but he ignored my tip to open carb, he said its nothing, dont meddle with carb, or mileage will get reduced. So any suggestion guys? And anyway I'll ride the bike and report back if the problem got solved on itself or I had to go back to SVC again. Also will let you know the mileage returned soon.

Took the bike today evening to service center, technician did a test ride and then checked the spark plug gap, adjusted the AFR. I observed he has turned the screw anti clockwise, I am not exactly sure how much but from the looks its about 6 or 7 turns and set idle RPM at 1000, and said it should be fine now.Originally posted by lalitp View PostIf anyone could answer this query, I am no expert to comment on anything. I got it back home, but the bike was still shutting off on way back, at times with a thud whenever I depress clutch, but if I pull the throttle a bit to keep RPM higher than 1000 and then depress clutch the bike doesnt switch off, I could live with this way of ride or just set the idling knob back to 1400-1500rpm, but still the problem exists i.e bike doesn't show any sign of power until I reach above 3000-4000rpm just like before, no changes, the tuning seems to made top end even more powerful. The bike sounds a lot more like a K&N filter bike at higher RPM, but then its all a waste coz in city traffic, we cant idle around 2000rpm and ride at 7000rpm now can we, unless I own a petrol bunk
Anyways I am going take it back tomorrow morning and sit there. I will tell him that the tuning is not helping with anything, and if he could really please look thoroughly, and I wont leave until he fixes it why the pick up has dropped and bike switches off with a thud at low RPM, it was not happening before.Last edited by prajnyan; 06-21-2012, 11:47 PM.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. Yamaha SZR Bike Mileage
Hi All,
i have a Yamaha SZR bike. i got it in the month of Mar 2011. now all the free servicing are done. but my bike has only run 4k KMS. i hardly drive my bike as i go to my office by cab in Bangalore.
till now i have not had any major issues in my bike
. now after 1 year, small small problems are arising.
1. first and the most important one is the Mileage
. its only showing 40 KMPL.it has never gone beyond 40, as i drive mostly in the city. the only time it showed 45 was when i went on the Bangalore Mysore highway. i always thought that new bike will consume more fuel and the older it gets the better mileage it will give. (like wine
). but in my case its not.
2. the second one is the headlights are not up to the mark. its doesn't give good light and moreover when a vehicle is come from the opposite side it next to impossible to see the road. You know the cab drivers
and (Morons) some idiots who never ever think about any one else in the road, they always drive in high beam. any suggestions please for this. will a higher wattage bulb will help(can i get a 55-60W Bulb without any modifications at all) ????
.
3. thirdly there was also a issue with the TVS stock tyres. luckily i got some really good suggestions from my Fellow Xbhpians. so will be going next month to change to MRF tyres. but guys from Bangalore can anyone please suggest the best place to buy MRF tyres. both Price wise and Service wise.
i know i have made this post a very big one but tried to put forth all my issues as i know i will get some very good suggestions from my fellow Xbhpians.

40 is decent mileage for city ride. I am getting 39 now, I need to get my carburetor cleaned as water had seeped in it during my ride in rain on long highway ride.Originally posted by sudipt24 View PostHi All,

How did you check for mileage? test by filling full tank, ride about 50km and again fill fuel. Check how much fuel was filled the second time. So 50km/ x liter = average mileage. getting 40-45 is good for 150cc bikes, keeping the bike to run too lean i.e consume less petrol will give little better mileage but will overheat engine and also slowly then its fine. If its less than 40, and you have not replaced your air filter that could reduce mileage.
The headlights are really fine, get the headlight doom adjusted a little lower. Also one trick that i use seldom is adjust the beam switch between high/low, then both the high and low beam works. Suddenly u get a real bright road!2. the second one is the headlights are not up to the mark. its doesn't give good light and moreover when a vehicle is come from the opposite side it next to impossible to see the road. But using it for longer than few minutes can burn the filament and then u will be left in darkness which is too dangerous!
Do you really need a tyre change, you have just done 4k km. The TVS tryes felt weak initially even for me when compared to the mrf on unicorn's and pulsar 180's, but now after close to 6k km the tvs tyres on my bike feel more better, yes it cant beat MRF soft compound but neverthless I have learnt to handle the bike within its capacity. Remember tyres with better grip also mean more punctures due to soft tyres. In any case I dont expect you to go racing on your bike to get that little extra comfort for bending in corners or streching on highway. But if you have the cash and want something better then go for the Ceat Vertigo Sport with tube on the same 17" rims for the rear. For the front you can put MRF Zapper-FS 2.75 - 17 TT.3. thirdly there was also a issue with the TVS stock tyres. luckily i got some really good suggestions from my Fellow Xbhpians. so will be going next month to change to MRF tyres. but guys from Bangalore can anyone please suggest the best place to buy MRF tyres. both Price wise and Service wise.

Any day
Thanks a lot prajnyan for your inputs.
1. firstly i calculate the mileage by putting Rs 100 petrol once my bike gets on reserve then when again its goes on reserve, i take down the KMS and divide it by the total liters of Petrol. for ex- in RS 100 i get 1.26 lts of petrol. then i calculate the KMS from Reserve to Next resrve and then divide the total KMS run by 1.26 lt. so i get the Mileage of my bike.
i know yamaha bikes are not for Mileage. you need to accept that fact. becoz you cant get speed, power & Mileage all in one bike.
but as per me 45 Km-pl in city and at least 50 in Highways is fine.
2. I will get the dooms adjusted ASAP. after that will see how is the light. if not then will need your help again.
3. I had met with an accident last year due to the pathetic TVS tyres.
when it rains too heavily then these tyres are somewhat OK OK. but when it drizzles then you feel like your tyres are made of plastics and not rubber. No Grip at all. so thought of changing them ASAP. these tyres are too new to be changed. but when its raining outside and i take out my bike, those memories of my accident comes to haunt me again. so its like i drive my bike like a bullock cart in rain.
Max speed is 30 KM but in that too it tends to slip.
so i have zeroed in on MRF Zapper C for Rear and Zapper FS for Front tyres.but i got an information that the Yamaha R15 V1 tyres can be fitted on to SZR. thought its a low profile tyre .i.e. 100/80 17" tyre but it will fit in SZR without any MOD. Grip is excellent both in Wet as well as Dry. i am planning to put both tubeless tyres on my bike.
so bro what do you say on this.
i haven't checked ceat vertigo tyres but will check it online and see how they are. but can you please advice me which is the best shop for tyres in Bangalore.

Lol! Ur fuel tank holds 14liters, and you fill rs.100 and find the mileage? Well, frankly that's not the correct way, doing that will always give you false reading of mileage. Do the full tank to full tank method only. I always fill full tank whenever fuel level drops below quarter tank. Keeping more fuel prevents evaporation and you will get more mileage for the fuel you have,Originally posted by sudipt24 View PostThanks a lot prajnyan for your inputs.

Yes, the tyres skid, even MRF Zapper FS too skids in mud, you can ask the R15v1 owners if you don't believe me. I too was planning on getting tubeless fitted to the bike, you can go back in this SZR threads and see somewhere I had posted that, but then after asking around and from others who have done that, I found its better to stick to tubetype itself. I have done 80kmph+ in rain on highways on those TVS tyres. But I do agree that at such speeds its difficult to bring the bike down to halt quickly as the stopping distance is too long, an low profile tyre will give better grip, and also last very less km but since you dont ride more than few thousand every year, I dont think it should be a problem3. I had met with an accident last year due to the pathetic TVS tyres.

so bro what do you say on this.
You cannot put a tubeless tyre on those rims, air will seep out and you will have frequent flat tyre and end up putting a tube in the tubeless tyre which is wrong, tubeless tyres are not ment to be inserted with tube. Take my advice stick to tubetype tyre or you have to find some good tyre dealer who will check he rim bend and put the tyre, if there is any bend you will need to change the rim and its too expensive. You can ask any R15 or Fz16 owners of their nightmare with such issues.i haven't checked ceat vertigo tyres but will check it online and see how they are. but can you please advice me which is the best shop for tyres in Bangalore.
You can shop for tyres around J C road, I prefer the tyre being fixed by the SVC guys with proper tools. Also if at all you are planning on changing tyres, you need to get the wheel balancing checked.Last edited by prajnyan; 06-29-2012, 11:39 PM.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. Yamaha SZR Bike
thanks a lot prajnyan.
as per your comments i will fill the tank this time and check my mileage. hopefully will get good mileage then.
nice to hear that you are doing 80 KMPH in your bike in rain.
.
but bro a small advice to you. don't go so fast in rain at least in these tires. its my personal experience. i met the accident with only 40 KMPH and fell very badly in that. spent almost 40 k
in the hospital then i decided not to drive fast in whenever it rains. so the first thing i need to do is change tyres to a soft compound one.
Anyways Will go to JC road and will change it next month only as nowadays its hardly raining in Bangalore.
will see if tubeless tires can be fitted or not but as you said the bike is not a Tubeless one so, mostly will stick on to tube type. chances of putting tubeless is very less. only 20%.
OK one more thing which i always thought that wheel balancing is done for 4 wheelers but is it really done for 2 wheelers?
. where is it done by the way. SVC or the shop where i will change the tires.

I don't recommend these. They get punctured very easily. You can read about it in the Honda twister ownership thread. These tyres do provide amazing grip in any condition, but I don't think these are any better than MRF Nylogrip FS and surely not grippy in wet slush. they are also not long lasting or cost efficient/km when compared to MRF.Originally posted by lalitp View PostThere is Michelin Tyres also available of same size:
Michelin pilot sporty 100/90 17 TT
Michelin pilot sporty 2.75 17 TT
You can check those out as well. There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

I did not know any thing about it. I just recommanded as I saw them fitting in perfect size.
Update:
Cerb setting was screwed up, got cerb over hauling done from YFS Pune, lets see how it is now, will update in a weeks time.
Cerb Overhauling labor charge: Rs. 125/-
Cheers!

Oh yes, regarding my bikes weird problem, I returned the bike to svc for a day and the representative heard my complaint and wrote down all these things: cleaning the carb, check air flow system within it, valve gap was checked, sparkplug gap checked, clutch adjustment, and finally tuned the carb. Bike now feels a lot better. Shall very soon check for mileage too, bike doesn't feel like it can do much top speed now. But frankly I appreciate YSC ppl to even listen to my complaint and fix those without any charges. I later got a water wash done which cost me 75rs. And some plug was replaced costing 9rs.

Help needed for choosing my first bike
Hi guys,
I want to buy a bike costing around 60k. It would be driven by my dad also. My parents told me to go for a bike which is good looking, fuel efficient, and less costly.
I really liked the YAMAHA SZ-R. It is an economical bike, good looking and 150cc(perfect for my dad).
These are the things which I would like to know :-
1. I have seen in some website that mileage of sz-r drops after 3rd service. What is its average FE. Will the mileage really drop after some time..?? My dad needs approx 50kmpl.
SZ-R owners please give your suggestions.
2.What are the other Pros and Cons of SZ-R ?
3. I would like to upgrade its stock rear tyre as my friends told that it the bike lacks behind in braking. I was planning for buying Michellin tyres. What are the other options.Kindly give your suggestions.
4. Which are the other bikes in this prize tag that would satisfy my needs. What are your suggestions about pulsar 135 ? Is it suitable for me as i am 5'4 in height. What is its Pros and Cons. Also can u tell me its proper FE that I would get for city driving( I would be driving 30kms per day).

1. False, I am getting 40-45 even now, my ride condition is sport type, average speed 70kmph.Originally posted by arjunv212 View PostHi guys,

2.pro: fz engine, large fuel tank, light feel on handle bar, strong disc brakes, dc headlamps with one of the best projector dome which illuminates road well, best renowned engine of fz tuned for mileage, vibration free ride, top speed 106kmph.
Cons: tyres skid in rain, no pass beam switch, mileage.
3. Yes, you can go for any tyre, but it will void warranty.
4. Personally I don't prefer pulsar135, it just has more power, and little more top speed where the bike vibrates a lot, same with stunner and shine too. Pulsar seats are hard type, gets uncomfortable after a while, shine bike felt too low powered for me, you just have to sacrifice somewhere. If you need mileage u must go for a good alternate is Yamaha ss125 gives u guaranteed close to 60kmph. If you want top end speed with mileage Suzuki gs150r, and if you can adjust with lesser mileage in range of 40-50kmph then you have szr, unicorn and Honda cbz cost another 10k more.
