Yes this could be true as I was not able to test them in 4th/5th gear but to me....low end of both bikes felt pretty same.

Yamaha India site shows exactly same bore and piston size and also same Compression ratio for SZ-R and FZ/Fazer, not sure what do they mean by different piston. And yes there is a difference in Sprockets, SZ-R have 14/42 sprocket setup exactly same as R15 v1 and FZ/Fazer has 14/40 sprocket setup.
Well I just quoted what he said to me. I just nodded, and took test ride
PS: May be we should start the thread Difference between SZ-R and FZ/Fazer in Pit Stop General biking discussion or in Universal thread :P, but never mind, people dont even pay attention to this ownership thread so starting that thread in there would be a waste of time and resource.

      its funny.

      Cheers!

              Congratulations on your new SZ-R!

Run-in period is 1000 kms, take care of her, stay below 4K RPM for first 500 kms and below 6K RPM for next 1000 kms, you can go for early oil change for about 400-500 kms and then again change at first service after 1K kms, not sure how much you will be riding it everyday, if in a month and at first service its 500 K on the odo then change the oil at service itself. Stick to Yamalube Minera

I also personally like red rather than others, quality of red color is awesome. U have decided for white, why change of mind ? and congrats for your bike bro....

Normally we see bikes Pre assembled in showrooms, but your bike appears as if fresh lot landed on day before your purchase !!

Do keep us posted of her final looks and your review !! Stuck in office due to work .... my bike day would be in navratras.

Hi lalit, there are some people who says ideal time for first oil change to be ~100 KM. Reason given: There would be minute metal parts that would go into oil in early KM running. It is best to get them out as soon as possible rather than waiting for 500-700 KM running with those parts inside engine. Companies give guidelines just for sake that it is cheaper and fine( but not best ) if oil change is done at 500 KM. I have also heard oil change intervals to be 50 KM, 150 KM, 300 KM and then onwards company recommended.

                  • Different Pistons for SZ and FZ sounds unlikely. The only difference which I observed in the discussions is the different CDI units. Sprocket specs would be different on both bikes considering the change in Radius of the Back Wheel and tire size.

I will keep your advice specially in run in periods, but it difficult to maintain this beast within that limit.

Still my service book is pending.. but i checked with showroom, they said 1st service will be at 1000kms. IF I will go for 500kms will they charge anything???

My dad's Choice.. even I like red when i compared both in front.. RED Shines better than white, but black shine better than red.

                      • Congratulations Gagan bhaiya on your new motorbike purchase. Heres hoping that it will serve you well for at lest 1 lac km

About the 100km oil change, it is totally optional. I had done one at 92km on the odo. You can choose not to as long as you stick to the manufacturer recommended oil change intervals.

                        • 100 kms oil change is completely personal choice.

My first oil change and 1st service was done at 367 kms, I was a complete novice bike rider, I learned my biking lessons on SZ-R, again this service and oil change was not by choice but it was due to service interval and less kms that I clocked on it.

Second oil change was done at 1416 kms, again less kms clocked due to shifting from Mumbai to Pune and being newbie riding in Pune city was never easy. I would suggest, if you think you will be able to clock 1000 kms before 1st service then you can go for 500 kms oil change, but like Anant said its all matter of personal choice; no hard and fast rule.

I do agree that its very hard to maintain its RPM below 4 K especially for first 1000 kms, I neve exceeded that limit since I was complete new to the bike and I had ride it slow to get used to it. :P

Follow the run-in period as mentioned in the manual then it will serve you well.

And one more thing there might be small niggles here and there, just dont worry about them, I had my speedo stopped working on the same day of delivery lol, had rear brake issue one day before 1st service, I found it very hard just to control it using front brake when I just learned how to ride the bike, everything was fixed under warranty, no issues with those things since then. I believe I had these issue since I took the bike from the very first batch which hit YFS Mumbai.

                          Cheers!

I heard that the main diff between fz and sz series is their carbs. I'm not sure but I guess sz series use detuned/different carb.
Also saw some guy saying Yamaha is fooling people using same engine and changing the looks, not true ...the fz series and sz series rides, brakes, corners, feels different.
