    • My Review on SZ-R

      Hey fellow bikers,

This is my first ever post on xBhp but still i wish to share my thoughts on
      Yamaha SZ-R.

For various reasons this my first bike i used to drive dad's 6yr old Passion Plus. Got a new job so me and my dad decided to get a new bike, It was like big present to me from my dad. Well It's almost 3 months old (somewhere around 2,000km on my odometer), I find this ride more comfortable in city, I even went on small 160km trip the feeling was just great. And this like one of the coolest thing in my arsenal right now .

But recently had an fatal accident on this bike i thought my bike is gone but everything settled for about 5k. It was sunday, I got bored in the afternoon I just went out for a small ride worst thing is i didn't had my helmet on, while on coming back just few meters away from home, near an inter section a guy on Splendor came and hit my front wheel he was driving around 60-40 and i was like 40 or something i fell down lost my consciousness for about 5 mins, I was rushed to a nearest hospital. It was found that my right occipital bone got fractured thank to god that i didn't had an blood clot in my brain. This is kind of an worst nightmare to have with your new bike but i learnt my lesson my doctor told me that a 2k helmet could have saved almost 40k hospital charges .

This is my little story about this bike, It a good bike gives almost 55-60kmpl for me, Which kind of fine right now unless they decide to rise the petrol price by another 10rs.

Enjoy the ride, Ride safe and please don't forget to wear an helmet.

Why petrol prices gets hiked during midnight? Any thoughts? (0_o)

Remember never drive a bike without helmet.

                  • I did Pune - Mumbai - Pune trip on my SZ-R.

During Pune - Mumbai journey, I ripped my bike above 80 kmph and avg speed was between 70-100 kmph for good 20-30 kms patch. Bike behaved superbly! On rest of the road I was never below 60 kmph. Rode it on highway and on the city traffic, gave me mileage of 45 kmpl very very happy with these figures as it also involved ripping.

Return journey was even better, did not rip the bike this time, took it very easy avg speed 60-90 kmph. Yamaha designed this one for City, I would say take to it highway it will behave as perfect as you would want it to behave on highway.

                    Cheers!

                        • Mods for SZ-R

                          Hello All,

I use my SZ-R in Kerala. When I went to service Center, i got a chance to speak with a Sr Tech. I had enquired about the following

                          > Adding a Flash Switch
                          > Adding a Day light running lamp

For adding a Flash Switch (which you can use while overtaking), he told we can use the Yamaha YBX swtich unit. As per his update it is a direct match

Day Light Running Lamp, Provision for this one is given in the design. However, if we want to fix it we need to make a hole and probably fix a LED. The wiring for this comes along with the YBX Switch unit.

Since these mods would compromise with the warranty, I am waiting for the 1 year mark to complete.

Just thought to give ideas.. Also would like to know if anyone got a chance to DIY these changes. If someone have the images, please upload.

Yes, I too was running the same thought of getting the led lamp fixed. When taking delivery this was one of the requests I made and the sales person said "Sir, its just a future provision, perhaps a 2012 version of bike can come with the lamp, then you can get it fixed, as of now any changes to electrical will void warranty."

                            • Done with the 5th service. Almost 2K kms done between 4th and 5th service. Used Yamalube 20W40 Mineral oil. Pickup have dramatically improved! I hope the mileage doesnt drop. I am getting consistently 45 Kmpl + on bike in City + highway + ghats.

I bought this bike for City commuting and I ended up using it as weekend long ride bike.

Planning for a small ride this weekend too.

                              Cheers!

                                That's great Lalit!

I too just finished my first service day before yesterday and bike feels a lot more better, but there was this clutch jump issue and i took it back to SVC, the mechanic showed me how to adjust the clutch at lever end myself.

By the way I told him I observed my silencer makes a kind of back fire sound sometimes. The technician tried revving the bike and it never came out. He said there is no such trouble, and said its common to get small backfire, this is due to the catalytic converter. Is it true? Also never heard of bikes having cat.con.
