  • Glady in the city

. but because they are a wired and tuned to do well in city conditions... as they are purely commuter-city based bikes...[/quote]

As owners would be knowing, the Gladys rev range is very high...dont know the exact RPM, coz no tacho. The engine has to be revved really high for the power to come out...
This actually makes riding the Glady in the city a not so pleasant experience.
You really feel sad when the Glady is actually overtaken by other commuters and 125s..
In the city the Gladys purpose is defeated..you cant cruise, cannot corner at high speeds, you have to stop go all the time, down shift to overtake etc...
that is the engine character...but boy, get onto the highway and it is feels really good...

    • Thumbs up to that dasco... The gladiator even though a 125cc bike shines in highway conditions...

I am doing 50km to college and back daily and my Gladiator is in shambles.
It's like a grinding machine when I let go the throttle. All the time *trrrrrrrr*........*hrrrrrrrrr*.......*brrrrrrrrrr rrrrr*..........*krrrrrrrrrrrr*..........then there's the front brakes which have somehow made themselves audible. The lever too has lost it's feel and is hard as a stone.
It's fine after a servicing. Two days of riding and it's back to being a nuisance all the time.

The problem is that I have been spoiled by the Discover. I know how good a 125cc can be both in terms of practicality and power. The Discover was that and more. All this while I am using the Gladiator, the 0.4 (or whatever) of the torque and power difference gets noticed. And amplified in traffic.
The Discover was a missile. It went ballistic all the time. The Gladiator on the other hand is restrained.........and in my case, quite unreliable and annoying.

It maybe less with you SS/RS owners.
By the way, what other bikes have you all guys ridden for long before buying the Gladiator?

P.S.: And I haven't ranted against the Gladiator in my blog. You must have misread/misinterpreted it. Putting up something's weak points isn't termed as 'ranting against' in my knowledge.
It would be if I said: I hate the Gladiator. But I dont remember having said that anywhere.
I dont hate the Gladiator.I am just sad because it isnt as good as I had thought........hoped.

                    • Ownership Experience

Guys, rode in two awesome G2Gs. Rode with the likes of P200,220, Apache, Uni, ZMA. Maintained cruising speeds of 60-90 kmph. It takes time to reach there, unlike the other G2G counterparts. Keeping up with others is quite a challenge . I likely revved to max 6000 rpm, didn't check the tacho.

I got my Gladi, cos I had enough of BMTC, autos; I had ridden only a Bajaj Super before . Never had touring in mind. Within a week, I felt I should've got a bigger bike. 1 more week later, got a hang of Gladi. Good enough for the city!
What set me off to consider touring after nearly a year:
Get out and ride - Around Coorg with a Yamaha
                      Yamaha Gladiator, tested - T-BHP

PS: It's been a year now, & for what it costs v/s what it does, someone is content . I've test driven other commuter bikes, but I don't feel the weight of Gladi on my palm, through the handlebars; I think that adds to the handling.

If your college is at K.R Puram, nearest Yamaha SC is at Panache enterprises, Binnamangala, Old Madras Road .
BTW Orion Motors had Yamalube semisynth *w/50, & no *w/40. Not sure if the 40 grade is out.

Wow man... Hope you enjoyed the ride... Yup, gladi is a good touring vehicle... It can maitain a good enough speed but yeah in a group it'll surely fall behind the likes of zmas and pulsars... Hopefully i'll be meeting you all the next time yall go on a tour... now that im keeping a tab on the bangalore g2g thread...

                          • @prashant : I had installed a front sprocket with 1 tooth less ie .. 13T ... it had increased the acceleration by may be 5 -6 % only. But the bike felt more free revving and the bike used to struggle to reach the higer speeds of 90 -100 kmph.

Had also tried 39T for the rear sprocket with stock sprocket in front : again 7 % drop in acceleration. But the bike used to run at lower rpms at higher speeds. at a speed of 70 kmph the bike was at 5k rpm. Good For Touring. Though never got to try it on a long ride coz my touring plans are too instantaneius.

Presently im on the stock sprockets of the Fazer.

                              • some trouble

My battery and self start both have gone dead...I mean self start was not working, but battery was..horn, neutral light etc..were ok, now the battery is gone too.
Something is wrong, spoke to the mech on the phone and he said the relay for the self start may have to be checked/replaced and battery needs charge.
Also feel the bike pulling to the right...something is wrong with the handlebar alignment or something..
So planning to take the bike in for service today or tommorow..
I have been having this bateery trouble since long time, even bought a new battery last year...
My bike is 2007 Gladiator DLX..anybody with the same model and same troubles??
