But as Kaveriappa pointed out that his tuning has not been properly done( he went to the same CBZ)... He is getting low mileage... Even i am getting pretty low mileage...

Even i am in search of good mech who can tune my bike properly... Many people say that only a very good mech can tune it to perfection...

Anyways if it is only oil change, lubrication etc that has to be done without any tuning and messing around with the carb... Then u can go here or any other CBZ ( as long as u have time to stay there and watch their work)
And if you find a good mech somewhere kindly let me no too...

    Regards,

    Prashanth...
I found that there is a good mech at Jayangr near the Jayadeva hospital (somewhere near to the Airtel Headoffice). My frnd regularly service his unicron there. And he said that the mech is pretty good.

Planning to service ma bike on June 2nd weekend. First weekend Im goin out of Bangalore. Will let u guys know abt the quality of service.

    Ride fast n safe!!

    • Greetings fellow Gladiator owners!

After coming across xbhp.com and joining in and reading the ownership experiences of all the Gladiator owners present here, i was convinced to post my own experience as well.

I own a 2008 model Gladiator Type SS which i bought last november. I'm extremely happy with my choice of bike and i feel no other bike in this segment could have satisfied me enough. [Yamaha fanboy!]

I travel about 18 km to and fro everyday and after 3 services, i have had absolutely NO problems with the bike and it's still a pleasure to ride. At the previous check, the bike returned an average of 62 kmpl in this mad bangalore traffic and that left me very happy. I feel i got a mileage this good because i followed a few simple practices.

Tried to fill fuel from ONE dealer as much as possible, in this case, Shell.

Maintained my speed within 50 kmph.

Tyre pressure was kept in check regularly.

No over-revving of the engine at lower gears.

Shifting gears at 4000 rpm. (This was recommended by the dealer)

Now, what i don't like about the bike are it's looks from behind, the low-end torque(engine begins to scream while just touching 3000 rpm in 1st gear) and the lack of a tripmeter.

Overall, a great commuter bike that i'd recommend to any first-time buyer!
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.

for the great FE. We dont follow simple practices here. Talk about K&N, upjetting, Engine mapping & what not. We twist our fist really hard to milk that last horse. & I'm setting up a 6th cog for highway cruising.

^ My Gladi revs hard, upto 5k on 1st gear, & doesnt grumble at all. Few q's for you:
Which Shell do you tank up at?
Where do you get your services done, dealer?.
What is the distance covered on the odo.
What tyre pressures do you maintain?

        • Hey Sharkbite,

Welcome to Xbhp and Gladiator Ownership thread. Very nice to hear your ownership review as of now... Thats a very impressive mileage figure you are getting... Lets see on my next fill ill try following your mantra for good fuel efficiency... Cos as of now my mileage is in the 40's...

And yes even i would have loved a trip meter on my gladi, miss that while riding...

About the looks from behind.. Yeah even i used to not like it at the beginning.... But then i think i got used to it... The tyre seems to look very puny for the rear. But wat we miss in looks we get in grip and handling i guess...

Yeah low end torque is an issue with the gladi... Doesnt have the initial pick up that most other commuters have... But that is compensated i guess with a very good top end... No other 125cc comes close to the relaxed feeling one gets while riding at speeds of 80-90...

Well, I agree with u mate that the gladi is one of the best commuters... Not only that from my recent experiences i think it is a great humble highway machine also...

Hope you have a great stay here... Keep Posting... Its nice to see posts in the gladi thread... Feels dead sometimes... N hope to meet you soon at a g2g... Another bangalorean gladi owner...

            Feels good to be here!

I fill fuel at the Mysore road shell since i stay close by.

Got my bike from the Rajajinagar showroom, Bangalore Wheels.

As of today, the bike's covered 4384 km.

I maintain tyre pressure at the recommended pressure... 25 and 36 for front and rear tyres respectively.

Yeah, the bike doesn't pick up speed as good as the others initially but feels great at 80-90 as prashanth said. I can't stop smiling when im at such speeds, because the bike feels so smooth and its like it's asking for more!!

And i wish the Yamaha guys could have made the exhaust note sound a bit more rough to make it better. I feel if the bike looks sporty, it could also sound a bit sporty.

            • ^^ Yeah man... Would totally love a sportier exhaust note... Wish Yamaha had done that... Hopefully if some soul somewhere makes a credible and good exhaust for a 125cc then ill be surely in for it... But I know... Thats more or less never going to happen...

N Sharkbite, i have heard that Bangalore Wheels is pretty good... How was the service there?? Recently heard they are one of the best in Bangalore in terms of service(Yamaha)...

for Bangalore Wheels. I was about to purchase from them, but circumstances forced me to buy from Onion Motors . Mr Prabhu there is a nice gentleman, considers every customer a king. & I found that they support local motorsports talent too. & its more smiles per hour for sure at 80 - 85 kmph .

                    Hey Buddy,
                    Welcome to Bangalore Glady group.

I own a 21/2 yrs old Glady and the feel of riding ma babe dint changed from day 1.

But I think that it is underpowered with a pillion rider. Yamaha should think about it and I will be the happiest person if they produce Glady with 150cc, 14.4 bhp, 110/90 rear tyre. With this specifications Glady would be an ultimate touring machine.

                    Hope yamaha thinks about it

                    Happy riding buddies!!

Yeah man, Bangalore Wheels is a very good place to service your Yamaha and also good for a purchase. Every time i look at my bike after it's been serviced, it charges me up and i'm all fired up to rev the machine!

During my second service, i wanted my bike ready in 2 hours time and had to head for classes after that. The bike wasn't ready in 2 hours flat but since i was waiting at the service centre itself, i decided to check what's done in a Gladiator's service. I was surprised to see that they wash ALL bikes with soap n water, which is not done by any other manufacturer's service unit as far as i know. And when a mechanic took over my bike, i was standing by him and watching what he does. Nobody objected to that too. I don't know if it's actually allowed to stand there or not. I asked him questions here and there and he patiently answered. Later the same mechanic offered me some tea also... Honest guys at Yamaha don't cheat the customers of their money by using old spares or old oils, and no question of stealing petrol from the bikes too. All spares/oils used are brand new, from the pack/cover. The sales guys too are polite and warm and a couple of them recognise me everytime i go there. Yamaha Forever!

Yeah, sometimes i do feel the bike is underpowered with a pillion rider but i overlook it now. As long as i'm riding the bike, i'm happy!

Yes, Yamaha could probably come out with a more powerful version of the current model but they'd need to do a lot to ensure healthy sales. I still don't find too many Gladi's on the road and that actually adds to a certain Novelty factor about owning this bike, a very proud feeling. Add to that some stares and turning heads at certain times! People are definitely left wondering, "Which bike is that?"

The seat too feels comfortable and there's no ass pain at all. Long distances just become comfortable with that.

                          • My experience with Yamaha Gladiator

                            Folks,

Honestly i dint know first thing, that there exists a ownership/ experience thread dedicated to Yamaha Gladiator. I own one, and it was purchased on July' 06. I still remember the day, reaching Yamaha Plaza (now its Pacer Motors) in Jayanagr carrying 50 grands cash for getting my steed. That was one nice feeling buying your first bike. A no nonsense machine, and I would say very much capable tourer. I had managed to do a 502 kms to and fro trip to GSBetta (en route Mysore) in one day.

Best thing, I never had to spare a single money till date apart from the regular Service costs. Touch wood.. . Would request Bangalore Glady owners to meet up and go for a ride.
