Can you please guide us a little more precisely into this massive "lighting" thread you are referring to (which page)?
      Thanks
      Hi Luke,

It was long time before, may be a year ago when I decided to mount auxiliary lamps. I didn't wanted to drain the battery faster, so I asked the question of upgrading the battery. But then there were few doubts. Went to Belgaon with 2 Hella FF200, didn't face any issues with the stock battery so decided not to do anything.
      Here is the discussion.

The sound in front disk of new bike is normal. It will vanish within 150 kms or even before you know. Don't panic. Happy Riding.

          Congratulations
If it's a small humming/motor sound that's coming from the disc when the brake is applied..then it's normal. It wont go away because thats how it works

Thanks for guiding me through this interesting but "whale size" thread! So: what is your final setup? I read that the power of these Hella FF 200 is 55w....x2= 110W. That's a lot, I think, and I am surprised you can have these lights on (+ tail light, ignition, indicators, dashboard...) for any length of time, since the FZ alternator will deliver it's maximum of 125W/ 14 V @ 5,000 rpm., regulated @ 13.7V (Source: workshop manual)

I have got 2 HID projectors on my Fazer, working simultaneously as the original lights did (export model). I just don't know what is the power: 2 x 35 or 2 x 55watts??!?!? The idiot who installed them (whole thing had to be re-rigged) was unable to give me this information, and since these projectors are now sealed inside the headlight assemblies, I can't check it! Gives amazing light, though, but I found that these lights need well charged battery otherwise the High Intensity Discharge that make them work will not happen, and they will start flickering....which is reputed for shortening tremendously the lifetime of both the lights and ballast! As the parking lot keepers love to fiddle with all the switches (sleep on the bike, etc...) it has happened that I would start my engine with the headlights on...making them flicker immediately. Also, after some repeated city night drive, where I do not need to revv above 4k rpm (specially with my torquey 200cc. setup), one - or both - of the headlights would start flickering, and I then have to switch them off for a while, riding with the (bright!) angel eyes only, and at higher revs in order to charge my battery, and then keep the engine running at these revvs (5 to 6k rpm) after switching the HID on again. This is a bit of a PITA!

So, I am considering having a bigger (7AH) battery, but as explained by Segagt (and to me he was 100% correct!), having a bigger battery is just like having a bigger water tank in the house: it will not change the water consumption, nor the rate at which the tank is re-filled, but only allow to drain on this reserve for a longer time. Same with a battery..... excepted that a battery should not be drained - nor charged - at more than 10% of it's nominal capacity....meaning 60 W= 5 Amps for a 5 AH battery, or 84 W = 7 Amps for a 7AH one. If (???) I have 2 x 55W HID headlights, plus 5W tail light (and 21W stop light), plus ignition and dashboard, plus occasional 2 x 10W directional lights, plus angel eyes, the total will be some 130 to 140 Watts on the average= over 11 Amps. Then, if I do not rev up to minimum 5k rpm, my alternator will be giving what: maybe 60 to 80W average?....meaning I will be draining some 60 to 80 Watts (= 5 to 6 Amps) out of the battery= it's maximum recommended discharge rate (that's one thing) but also that a fully charged battery will be totally emptied in...less than one hour (that's another thing!!!). Actually, the HID headlights will have ceased functioning well before that!!!

What is the conclusion then? To me: it's clear: whether my HID lights are 2 x 35 (=70W) or 2 x 55 W (=110W !!!), I use the HID as little as needed in town (the angel eyes suffice most of the time), and stay well above 5k rpm all the time when on the road....and always have my battery full! Getting a 7 AH instead of the 5AH will be an improvement, but some power management is anyway needed! Should I consider having the alternator re-coiled (provided it's feasible) for higher output, and a new regulator installed?: I can't see the point.

Those who have a single light FZ : should not have any problem, really, even with one 55W HID and a 5 AH battery, unless idling along at night with headlight on, which could make them start flickering.
When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

Greetings Luc from (Finally) Queensland Australia! (flew from 0710hr Adelaide - Brisbane, minibus to the city, Greyhound coach to Toowoomba, picked up by a staff member and driven to Chinchilla. Arriving at the base @ 1600hr)

For what its worth, I did a little voltage test on my battery. With the engine fast idling @ 3K RPM I had a little over 13.2V at the battery
Now when I switched on the headlight the voltage dropped right down to just over 12.X Volts. This was with a single 35W HID, angel eye, park light LED, rear tail light. When I put the indicator on and the brake on, There was not much charging going on, infact in some instances it went below 12V.

Not a expert on electrical systems (give me a spanner any day than multimeters) but this tells me that the stock charging system on these bikes is not too strong.
I'm sure you have similar projectors to mine though I recall your light was very strong Vs my projector as I remember it shining on the ground infront of me and I was able to see the lit up road very clearly.
If you can get to your ballast's you may be able to see whats written on the stickers. I have 35w on mine.

                              Hi Luke,
My only problem upgrading the battery was that, I was not sure if the battery will get charged properly or not. Within forum outside the forum know one was really sure. There were too many hassles. I tried first with Hella's micro de fog lamps (2 x 55w) I didn't face any issues, except horn was sounding weak. So, then I mounted FF200 auxiliary lights (2 x 55w). As mentioned by Sajit, I used only auxiliary lights + angel eyes no HID was on & used them judiciously. Never faced any issue. Currently I don't have that set up, planning to make new clamps.
                              Regards,

                              • i today got the cosworth air filter installed onto the bike with the bigger jet delivered along with the filter.the bike is now revving more freely.the filter is installed directly on the carb and hence the air box hose has been removed (work done at the yamaha svc).since the air box has been removed the two hoses of the air induction system are lying freely.to protect the hoses from dust i plucked them with pieces of foam such that they are not blocking the air but the problem is,a phatttt sound is being produced sometimes on engine revving.the cure i have planned is to attach a small plastic box which will contain an intake port and a small filter.so my two questions are:
1.will this be a cure to the problem?
2.while designing the bike, the engineers measure the volume of the airbox according to the air sucked by the piston or they measure the volume considering both, air induction system(ais releated to the two hoses) and intake volume?
                                one more qusetion:
i am also planning to replace the front 14t sprocket with a "smaller" size(may be available on smaller 100cc bikes)since it will increase the acceleration through the gears(by a small margin though) and i am ready to compromise on top speed(it is of no use to me).
also the warranty is already ripped so anyone interested in answering my queries don't take warranty in consideration.

one more thing i noticed is that the air box weighs almost 1kg as i compared it with a completely filled 1L water bottle.(mass of 1L water=1kg).so its good to shave off that extraa kilo(not in interest of economy)
