skidding of tyres of Fz16. Such fat tyres are skidding? Have you contacted yamaha in this regard? Any other fz16 owners experience such tyre skidding problem?
did 112kmph with my 85kg frame, had a wee bit more in reserve...

I wanted to know the wobbling part. The bike is light.. so goes it wobble at high speeds?? Mine was in run-in so i put up that q. Till nw, have taken mine till 75 and seems ok. But, somewhat the drag of the wind is felt !!Originally posted by rahulbajpai View Postthe best part of this bike is that it never lets you feel that you are running at higher speed untill you look at the speedometer i once ran it at 6k rpm (maxm since its yet to get its 1st service done) and only when i looked at the 80kmph at speedometer that i realised that i was breaking rules
Mine still gives 45+ KMPL in city traffic !!Originally posted by rahulbajpai View PostAre you serious??? coz mine once gave me a mileage of 30 on highway and after that it has given me a mileage of 35+ on some very rough heavy traffic riding on delhi. May be the first time it was due to the mischief done by the petrol pump.
True!! I felt the same !! Even after 1st service, the whole sound is different. I wonder its good or bad !! Any experiences so far??Originally posted by rahulbajpai View PostAnd after 700kms I think the engine noise has changed and its rough not like at the begining but its rougher than that it used to be during 200-700kms also the gear shift also doesn't seems as swift as it was in the begining and so I feel that it needs servicing before 1000kms. Is it possible? and do the yamaha dealers offer servicing before the prescribed distance?

Hello proud owners of FZ,
I have some queries bout the bike as I am considering to buy one for me:
-- really weak looking handle, not sure if it can be as strong as it is meant to be. Is it so bad that I need change it? Can it be changed easily with some small cost?
-- paint on the alloy wheels is gross as per the first look -- not even as good as on XCD125. Can't say about the absolute quality. Can it be redone with some really good quality one?
-- Pillion seat is really small -- only your GF can accompany you and that too only astride. I guess it can't be fixed, just have to live with it.
-- Missing kick for a drained battery which seems to be common with this bike. Is it really a problem? If yes, is there any viable solution for this?
-- weak horn. Can it be upgraded?
-- smaller mud gurads. Can these be upgrades?? Yes, I guess.
-- How's the headlight for the bike?

Ok.... now that my pal Sumit (dragster) has got this bike.... 3 days old now... hes done 300+kms on odo... and going for a initial oil change tomorrow morning.
Caught with curiosity, we did a couple of short drags with my P220.... and we were surprised with the pickup and performance of the FZ16.... from start it keeps itself there with the P220 till 70-75kmph..... though I pulled my P220 enough till 8-8.5k rpm, which is ok to atleast leave behind a 180cc bike.... but this was something not expected with a 150cc bike with fat tyre, and bad aerodynamics.
Other things I noticed is... the bike is very good at handling, seating and breaking. After riding it.... I was literally feeling sad on my P220, the FZ is that good.
He/me did not face any issues with the handle quality or look or feel, nor did we find any quality issues with the mag-wheel paint quality. Pillion seating is comfortable enough according to what I think and feel.
Horn is an issue, but can be changed.
Lights are good, spread is pretty good, but intensity is not enough.Chetan

Out of all the commotion this is something exciting. We've been ranting about the paint quality of the rims, handlebar quality, the sales experience and finally the apparently underpowered engine.Originally posted by chetanpulsar View PostOk.... now that my pal Sumit (dragster) has got this bike.... 3 days old now... hes done 300+kms on odo... and going for a initial oil change tomorrow morning.

The analogy is : Most of the time we would ride at speeds in the city which stay in the 0
to 80 kph band. Only when we find a really open road, thats when we go higher up on the speedo. For a city rider the low end performance of this bike being at par with that of a 220 means a lot.
I'll hope Chetan comments on this part because he's from Mumbai. I dont think we have the roads to ride at speeds above 80. In fact even the 60-80 kph range seems to abuse the suspension and the body given the 'twin of a crater' potholes and pavement blocks(even on highways) coming of.
About the highway, well thats a personal preference. I dont think this bike was built with the designer dreaming of a highway. But then i'm sure it should be able to hold on fine. Just not attain high speeds.
People who've been following the FZ threads, please comment. I hope more such comparo follow.
PS: I may come across as a FZ16 fan boy. But this is one bike which seems to have good design dynamics. May be they would have paid some attention to the performance part too.

Exactly... the low end torque on the bike is pretty good, considering a 150cc mill... and moreover, the bike is made for city riding, which means it SHOULD have good pickup (which it has). Till 70-75kmph, the bike has very good acceleration, post 80kmph... I guess it will die out. But then who needs to do such speeds in the city ?Originally posted by speedaholica View Post

We did a small ride (full highway 100km in all), and found that the FZ is least bit tiring. It was 2-up on the FZ, still it was easily doing 80ish ... when twisted on 5th gear.
I guess it can easily do a 80-90kmph cruising on the highways without a pillion.
The best part I can say about FZ is its amazing suspension setup, the seating position is somewhat like ZMA... a bit tourer kind of. I observed this when I was behind the FZ, and when the bike used to go over the 'khaddas', the bike used to be in one piece... I mean the bike just did not move up n down... only the rear wheel used to go down n come back up.... and the pot holes just could not be felt.... its that good. We did exchange the bikes on that bad streach of road... and trust me... bajaj suspension suxx bigtime
.
On highways, it holds pretty much good with the big machines, according to what I think. The seating, the cruising ability(80-90kmph) and the suspension package make it a option to tour on.... the 5th gear is not atall a overdrive thing... it has got some torque feel too... but the engine is very very smooth.... its like a tourer + commuter (city riding thing) in one package...hope this makes a lot of things clear.Chetan

Just took delivery of my FZ16 yesterday. Shifting from 3years of ZMA ride.
Ma first impression on rolling out..COMFORTABLE and NIMBLE! The saddle height is just perfect, the handlebar is wide and to nice to grip on.My height - 6.1
Gear shift is so precise, click-click shifts continued from unicorn and ZMA, great stuff from Yamaha.
Handling the best of any current Indian bike have ridden on. Awesome feedback from the 140 rear! Even ZMA was nowhere so confident inspiring around twisties. Speak about chassis!
Power delivery is crisp and superb! After shift from ZMA, didn't feel even for a little while it being underpowered! Bang on for a 150cc
Overall a perfect bike for daily commuting, decision made good and am one happy customer,, THANK YOU Yamaha for delivering a wonderful product!

well well well!!!!!!!!
Lot of discussion going on here......nice to see that.
Thanks evryone for putting in ur inputs.
Coming to the point now:
Took the FZ for a tour to ambala /ahandigarh.(arnd 550 kms roudtrip )
One thing for sure...the bike is a good tourer.Constantly did 80-100 kmph but the engine seemed crisp and unstressed as always.
The bikes stability is not an issue till arnd 100 kmph but after that its nt up to the mark due to the wind blast but nevertheless it was not that bad either.
The torque helps u overtake vehicles effortlessly, without any problems.Seating position is very comfortable for touring but the seat is a bit hard and so is the suspension.(but i guess u can live with that)
The bike delivers in excess of 45 kmpl.....sorry did not calculate the actual figures.
The bike is an attention grabber......many vehicles kept following me to have a lok at the bike.....and whnvr i stopped, had to answer to good number of curious onlookers.
Overaal i can say that...m happy with my decision to buy the FZ.
