15W50 grade oil is not recommended on FZ. it is not the rite oil grade go for any xW40 grade oil. The best one is Motul 10W40 semi syn.Originally posted by jit_j_thomas View PostHas anyone used the 15W50 grade semi synth engine oil in FZ series?
Please share your experience.
Also, in Bangalore, where can I get FZ semi synth engine oil?

I feared that already while reading your prior posts. But I believed that all your stunts would be with all guards on. Never knew that you are also like others who never value the importance of safety equipments until meeting with an accident. Anyways, better late than sorry. Atleast I guess you were wearing a helmetOriginally posted by Sushant Ahlawat View Postsorry friends was offline for few days... ment with a minor accident... went preety hard on trying to test bike limits... i really dont regret what happend... i know that feeling was awesome... what an adreline rush... took the best cornering of my riding experience... scrapped my knee and bike foot rest for about 40 to 55 mts approx... with awesome sparks coming out of foot rest... sudenly disaster striked... foot rest broke... and bike went rubbing on road...but slight damage happend to bike and to me also... but not that much as i xpctd...crash gaurd got a bit loose... and some paint gone from body... i love this bike... will give another try.. but this time with knee gaurds.. its monsoon season here.. very fogy.. and very cold.. it does pain... haha...

Better thank thy god that you are saved with only minor injuries/scratches.
@All: Guys, a simple request to all the stuntmen. This bike is a boon for every category of riding. It can take you as high as you can go. But please do not try anything in access of your limit. If you have so much adrenaline pumping inside, please get hold of every possible guards (jackets, gloves, knee/elbow guards).Stabl'ised by: BlackCat (FZ-16), BlackBird (ThunderBird)

oh thnks for ur reply...Originally posted by Binoy View Post@Vivek for getting 45 mileage... buddy first of all if you are looking for a mileage bike FZ is not for you... i mean for me until 10K kms the mileage varies drastically i.e i had got even 58 once but as for me i have completed ~29000 kms and my bike returns a mileage of 35-40... mileage is really bad from my experience. many of them here have been getting more than that, i don't know about it, but for this is the mileage i am getting. don't expect more than that, if you get more i say you are really lucky
.
also you can tune the carb for more mileage which you can ask in SVC, but it will be a compromise in power i would say.
Maintenance: there's not much to worry about the maintenance, the quality of parts are upto the mark from my experience...
Hope this will clear your doubt...

ya i'll do that.. thank you...Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postthe only maintenance you need to do is:
1. instructions should be followed properly during break in
2. regular servicing with oil changes (depending on your usage)
3. regular cleaning and lubing of chain during raining season
thats it.... and even the spare parts though od very good quality are cheaper than the other bikes....

Just got my FZ16 last Friday...And this thread helped me a lot in deciding and sticking with my initial idea of getting the FZ over other bikes...
As for my experiences with the bike,
Handling - Had been using a Splendor previously but had stopped using bikes for the past 2 months before getting this bike...So was very skeptical about how I will drive this bike, not that am scared or dont have experience driving a bigger 2 wheeler though...
But all the doubts were put to rest once I started driving the bike...Initially I thought that people was over hyping the handling of this bike, but I must admit that it handles so nice, the bike feels planted to the road...
Looks - Well I think I dont have to say anything about that do I ??
Mileage- First off, I knew that this bike is not the best or even good in its class, when it comes to mileage...So if you are going to buy this bike, and mileage is a main deciding factor, then you have to think twice...
But let me clear this though...I am getting roughly 40-42kmpl which I feel is decent(still 1st service is due) and again am not a rash driver and with this new bike, the max speed I have gone is ~50Km/h or I should say max 4500rpm @5th gear as prescribed in the manual...So if you are a good driver and dont over rev your engine, then you will get a decent mileage of 40+, which I feel is a bonus...
Braking- I wanted to ask this question to all the FZ 16 owners here...I feel that the rear brake is kinda weak...even at low speeds say 35-40kmph, when I tried to stop the bike just using the rear brake(just testing), but couldnt get it to halt at a short distance...any issues with my rear brake or is it like that ??
But the front brake is very good though...
Some questions -
And the place where I live(Mangalore) is frequented by rain and the roads get pretty dirty...Do I have to take any precautions with the chain as it is exposed ?? or it is not required as the lubrication will hold till the service ?
Also I have seen many people recommending to change the engine oil at the 1st 100kms as it would have a lot of particles left over during the machining of the engine...So will it be a good idea to change the oil now ?
And again thanks for all who have shared their experiences...

@gkay
Drum brakes are supposed to used only to assist the disc brake...never expect the drum to bring the bike to a stop from decent speeds, also drms tend to lock up easily too.
and you mean to change the oil at 1000km right?yes you have to...that's when you have to get the 1st service done!Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

1. clean it with kerosene like once in two weeks....
2. use a chain lube after that.....
4after the rainy season gets over you can do the above process once in a month...Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009
