Any precautions or things I need to do before I start the bike?

nothing to worry about just take it of the side stand and thumb the starter it will start without any problems...

      Hi xBHPians..
Finally I made my choice... I got the Yamaha fazer this friday... Sparkling Blue... the attention grabber on the streets... The feel is superb... Its real smooth on the streets... I am content with the choice I have made....

Well I needed some suggestions and tips from you all....
      1. Firstly is it recommended to drive at a speed limit of upto 50-60 km/h for the first 500 or 1000 km s... ( i actually once went up to 90....)

      2. I am mostly in city limits ... so speed is between 10-35 km/h so I have to change a lot of gears in between from 1-2-3.. So I hope it is not a trouble for the engine...

      3. Thirdly when I took a test drive of FZ (same engine as Fazer) at the I experienced that even in the 4th or th geat the bike was riding smoothly at low speeds like 25-30 km/h BUT this is not the case with my new bike... I have to downshift from the higher gears at slow speeds otherwise the engine stalls...

Please help me with your tips and recommendations for these 3 points... and if there is any othr advice which I should follow upon..

      thanks in advance
      1. yeah its ok to ride the bike in the speed range of 55-60 in the intial days but just take care that the rpm doesnt go for 5k..... you will be able to ride at 55-60 under 5k only if you are in 5th gear.
      2. fazer or fz is meant for city riding so it is not a trouble for engine to switch gears quite often but avoid the use of half clutch....
      3. fz @25-30 in 4th gear rides smoothly only when the clutch is suppressed a little bit which i think should work even with fazer...

apart from these follow the manual for the breaking in period after that you can rip the bike....
drive safely and always use safety gear(at least a helmet and pair of shoes) and regular servicing should be done....

The pain will go away in a week or so, once your hands get used to it.

I felt the same pain when I removed the handle grips from my bike, but after a week the pain was gone.

          • Ridiculous free service policy of Yamaha

            <begin rant>

I just bought a Yamaha FZ-S and took delivery on 16th August. However my first service is on 4th Sept!! They say its one month from date of sale/booking (which was on 5th August). They ate 10 days just like that!! I even argued with them stating that the policy is illogical and should be from date of delivery but the factory shop guys/pro biking SVC just said its policy. I think that policy is really stupid because I'm doubtful I'll even cover 200kms before first service! I'm in Bombay and its raining continuously for the past two days and it has been forecasted to do so for the next ten days and I have only run 15 kms since I have got my bike! Any tips on what should be done?

            </end rant>

They have written that since there is a risk of fuel overflowing&leaking out since the bike is tilted when parked on side stand. Nothing to do with starting the bike.

What is the date of sale mentioned in your Manual? If it's 4th Aug. then nothing can be done. If it's 16th Aug., even the SVC guys can't stop you from taking the 1st service after 16th Sep.

True dude. But what is the logic of starting it from date of sale when you anyway cannot ride the motorcycle until you have delivery? Shouldn't it logically be 30 days from date of delivery?

you can sometimes postpone the service by saying that you are going out of station.... but it can be postponed only for 1 week....
call the svc 2-3 days before 4th september tell them that you have to go out of station and ask for an extension.....

or the other thing you can do is call up yamaha office and get this thing cleared from them....

Thanks! I've already written to Yamaha, but I think that address sends all emails to the recycle bin :P. Will give your other suggestion a shot!

This is total rubbish. They should only enter the date of delivery/date of invoicing in the service manual. Isnt it written as 15th August in your case??
If it is then you've got nothing to worry. Just ask them to shut up and do their job. Oh if you do do this, you might want to stay there while they service your bike.
                        Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

If they have written date of booking in the service manual, then it is totally outrageous. It should be the date of invoicing (i.e., when you take the delivery).

It is very difficult to get a reply from Yamaha with the first mail itself. You can also try contacting Yamaha on the toll free number.

                            Dear all,

The date mentioned in the Manual is always the date of invoicing and not the date of booking. The invoices are made on the day when the bike is ready for inspection by the RTO. They have to show them the invoice and that's the reason why they mention the date in the Manual.

If the SVC guys have got their RTO cleared on 4-6 Aug, then you should have taken the delivery in that period only, latest say by 8th Aug. In my case it happened that bike got all it's clearance from RTO on 19th Jan but I took it on 21st Jan but the date mentioned on my Manual is 19th Jan only.

If the date happens to be the booking date, then my Thunderbird would have arrived after my 2 free services would have been lapsed (3 months of Waiting period after booking)

You should strictly mention it to the SVC guys and complain in the Yamaha if they don't change it.

                              Hi All,

I wrote a complaint email to Yamaha yesterday evening mentioning everything including the dealer name, location and contact info (Yamaha Factory Shop). Since its the factory shop of Yamaha, they have a pro-biking SVC too attached with the dealership. The dealer called me today (his boss screwed him up). He gave some crappy excuse as to why he said 30 days from date of sale which I didn't give any heed to. Then he changed my service appointment date to the one that i feel should be the right date (i.e. 30 days after delivery).

At least I'm happy Yamaha resolved this issue asap, although I don't know if they would change this "policy" for everyone.

Anyway, let my case be motivation to any of the chaps out here that don't quietly take BS from the dealer if you are convinced it sounds like BS. Shoot off an email to the corporate office. You'll be surprised how much customer service means to them!

                              Cheers.

                              • Well I shoud add to dis... Tat all dese dealers r crappy and should appreciate YAMAHA 's Feedback system on its Official-Indian-Website. I had visited the Showroom at my place(Green Valley Travels,Guwahati) and had a test drive..finalised FAZER ..I wanted the blue colour but the dealer din hav any stock tat time...so he told me tat they are expecting the stocks that same evening ,, and I would be given the vehicle by dsay following tat.....
Two days passed...And I din get any response from them...Later when I called dem they said tat Stock has not come...pls wait for 2 more days...

                                2 days
                                2days
Like this about 15days passed.... and I din get the bike...
Then I wrote to YAMAHA from its website..stating these 3 points
                                1. what is your frequency of delivering of bikes to the dealers..(i.e how often do dey rcv the stock)
                                2. Y is YAMAHA not able to meet the supply when there is so much demand.
                                3. THIRDLY<,,,, If you keep delaying not only me but other customers would also switch to other 150cc bikes..(well**I wanted Fazer only ..many of which are readily available...

The next day I got a call from the dealer...(His a** screwed up from the YAMAHA S side....) he said that ""Sir Delhi/Noida se phone aaya hai" aapko do din mein bike dedenge,....

the 3rd day i got the bike...
SO I once again appreciate the Yamaha s customer service..from the company's side..(not from the dealers) that they reply back with the customer's queries and complaints...
                                Thanks Yamaha
