  • Something is screwed with my RPM. Just before today's g2g ride I'd filled up IOC premium and gone. The bike had trouble starting at first but that was probably due to the cold. But after it warmed up it started behaving weirdly:

    1) On closing the throttle, RPM is not dropping from 3k fast enough.

    2) The bike is spluttering in the lower rev range while accelerating

    3) It is idling at almost 2k RPM (warm engine) which it never has in the past.

    4) Bike also shuts down when idling

Is my suspicion of the petrol correct? Or is something more serious happe Before someone asks, the idle RPM screw is exactly as it has been since I bought the bike.

Your choke is engaged. Set it to the off position. Some kid must have fiddled with it in the parking. You consumed a lot of petrol today buddy

        • Wow I can't believe it! I've never even used the choke I have no idea how it came on!!!! Thanks so much. To think I rode like 300 km with it on :| I know there won't be any damage but still!

Incidentally it did feel very good at high RPMs, not as crisp but still very powerful.

Regarding your torsion spring question... all FZ-16 manufactured prior to a particular date had some defect in them... which is being rectified by Yamaha for free. Check back about 10 pages there's some details about them. Search the thread for torsion springs

I believe it has to do with the clutch to help with better , smoother downshifts ...

            • FZ-S to FZ

I have an FZ-S and I want to remove the Visor and put the FZ16's headlight. How much would it cost me? And should I get it done from SVC or any local guy can do a good/cheaper job? Also how important is the front number plate in Bombay? :P

              • Uncomfortable seats for long rides!!!

                Hey guys,

Had recently gone to goa on my cousins FZ-S. The bike has clocked around 8000 kms. Parts changes are CLUTH PLATE (no pressure plates), ACCELERATOR & CLUTCH CABLE. The bike was super smooth and just the regular service. Initially the ride was good. But after crossing halfway, mu butt started aching. Also i had a bag behind my shoulders. The area for the pillion seat is very narrow so couldn't tie the bag.

Jus curious to know has anybody else faced this problem. The bike was running smoothly and the performance was awesome, no complaints whatsoever .
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

hmmm ... i know of the butt ache after about a couple hundred kms , but i have seen many people tie their bags to the back seat without any issue ... heck even i did this while transporting some stuff ... did not face any issue with it ...

yeah after a couple of hundreds the butt starts to ache.... is there any way to reduce that and increase the ache less touring distance.... can the seat be softened by any thing like put in an extra soft cover??

Well your engine was being fed with extra fuel hence, the power. i doubt it will have any effect on the engine. however do check the spark plug once for excessive carbon deposit.

the carbon deposits will wear off eventually with 2-3 rips on the highway...

Yeah it is possible , I went to the seat repairs guy and he said he can add an inch of foam to it , but will lose the stock seat cover ... the options of replacement he had looked tacky , hence didn't do the change ... also , didn't have any long term touring ideas at the time ... but I am looking at it seriously now ...

there is a jugaad which can be done.....

                                remove the rear seat grips...

take of the seat and the cover as well...

fix a bigger plate (the plate can be metal or plastic) on to the rear, add enough material on it and for the cover fix it back..

i think it should work but it might screw up the seating posture of the pillion... specifically with legs in awkward position...
