P.S i'm now running Agip FS for a good 5k+ kms and it shows no sign of trouble ... oil is at the halfway mark , so i decided to change it ... looking to try petronas as I heard it's great for FZ ... anybody tried it out and can comment on it ???
I think your last option would be the tube option....but then the handling would take a beating i guess....
well lets hope the bend gets fixed somehow...

I had used the Petronas....the engine was smooth upto some extent...
no problem during ripping the bike or high spped running.....

but it lasted for maybe 2.5-3k kms....i could hav stretched it a little bit but it was not worth that......
considering the price difference i would rather you stick to the AGIP....
        cheers....

A couple of times i took it past the 4k rpm and it was thrilling and the bike din feel stressed at all. Moreover i used to get figures of 55+kmpl during this stage
Did the first service on friday (with ~550km on the odo). Had changed the oil, oil filter, cleaned the chain, and applied the chain lube during it. The chain looks as fresh as new now. But looks a bit dry. Din touch it to check if it was because even before the service it looked the same way. Was also having a problem with downshifts, which was rectified. After that the sound seemed kind of dull (din give an adrenaline rush anymore ). Din wanna rip it apart all of a sudden and so i kept within 4k rpm itself, like i had done till the service. During this i got a mileage of around 45. Having expected only 40-45kmpl from the bike, i was happy with the figure, but was concerned why there was a huge drop despite no change in riding style. I was driving it in splendor mode itself, the same way i did and had got 55+ earlier

Today i filled in 100rs worth (around 1.7L) and since i had crossed 600km on the odo, thought of opening up to 6k rpm. I am not sure if i did it the right way. I did upshifts at 3.5-4.3rpm for all gears and took it past 4.5 only in the 5th. But then even by 5k rpm, the engine felt as if it was stressed out. Even the sound was wierd. it was like as if i was accelerating with the brakes applied. I did take it to 6k rpm and touched speeds 70+. But the way the bike sounded made me uncomfortable. It felt like i needed to shift to a 6th gear, but there was no such gear. I hit reserve after 55km. (55/1.7 = 32.xx kmpl). I was not happy with the mileage and more so with the bike's behaviour.

Any idea whats going on ?
FZ is notorious for varying fuel consumption patterns....

There's a bunch of us(well almost everyone i guess) to testify that...
And as you said u hav just started ripping it above the 4k rpm mark....
The FZ sounds and feels different after the 4k rpm...more so after the 5k rpm....so maybe that is what your 'feel' is rite now.....

And for the mileage part...there shouldnt be so much of a differrence as its your 1st service.....
even if you ask the SVc guys, they dont fiddle with the carb so early....so its gotta be your riding style or poor quality petrol or you have miscalculated the mileage(which i think u shud check again)
        cheers...

Anyways, the oil filter just costs for around 65 bucks from SVC so won't burn a hole in your pocket .

If i am not wrong aren't you supposed to shift to FS oil only after covering 4k+ kms on the odo. Guys please correct me if i am wrong on this.

Thnx for the replies guys.No it wasn't shell helix it was shell advance 4t..even I'm surprised tht it lasted only for 1.7k kms...
BTW when I went to the SVC to buy agip they said tht they had only 1 bottle left and boy was I happy!!It seems tht they sold 200 bottles of it in 2 days..so judging by this..I guess u shud stay with agip

Hey bro don't worry abt the sound after 4k..ull get used to it and grow to love it very soon..the mileage drop was expected as even I experienced a drop from 38 to 33 after 1st SVC.And even the drop to 32 must hv been caused by ur ripping past 4k..see the FZs mileage goes way down when u rip it..so control ur wrist

I don't think i ripped it. acceleration was gradual. There was no sudden twist of the wrist Anyway, its not the mileage that worries me the most for now.

So, is the sound pretty normal ? I mean after 4k it sounds like i'm accelerating with brakes applied or clutch applied or in the neutral.

Anyway, thought something was wrong. As for the mileage, i'll try petrol from different bunks and in larger quantities to get a better figure

Yes the tube is my last resort , will keep you guys posted , anyway on the oil front , thanks for that info , so the price of petronas is 450rs ??? (maybe wrong) , and the agip is 620rs , (this I know ) ... but petronas lasts lesser number of kms ... hmmm ... alright , but my AGIP still looks good , does the job , so should i consider a top up or a complete change ? its about 5.5k old . ?

bro , one question , were you already in reserve when you filled up ??? IF YES , then you got no worries , this bike behaves very different on reserve to when it's got some fuel ... you know , the beast doesn't like to be kept hungry , so he economises .... ... fill up atleast 3ltrs and then check , you will get your thrill back ...
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

Dont worry bro the bike kinda finds it hard to breathe when it is in reserve! Atleast i had this issue once but now a days no probs and about the sound i seriously miss the IZZZZZZing sound(am using the daytona thingy ) of the bike even though there is a little bit of that while the throttle is released!

and my bike's sound wasn't completely the IZZZZing sound before it was a bit more roaring than a normal FZ but still i loved that too

so dont worry about the sound at all it is normal that the bike tends to act a little different as the way you treat her changes just try to handle her/him with care and he/she will love you back to the core

Yes....it doesnt last that long ....and the prices you quoted are correct......
And if your oil is still gud then top it up and i guess it will easily live past the 7k mark....
i.e. for normal riding....but if u r a ripper then i think u should change it after 6k to be safe......
                        hope this helps u.....

Go to some welding guy, he may help u..in my case it worked. He will heat the rim and then it will be easy to get back the rim in his shape. After that you have get your rim painted again.
