That could be the double-stand hitting when you go over potholes.

the gear shift problem can arise due to many reasons....
        1. gear lever is out of shape
        2. the point connecting it to the rod is bent
        3. problem with the springs inside
        or anything like that....
you will have to take it to the svc and get it checked....

but if it has fallen on the right hand side it should not have any effect on the gear shift.....
The bike had fallen on the right side... but still i dont know why is this problem happening....
i dont think that the gear liver is out of shape or any other problem from outside.... its hard to know if there is any internal damage.....

Must be one of yamaha's SVC's stupid mechanic's magic hands messed around with your bike. I don't think its a big problem though get it checked.

Could be but the stand shouldn't move unless its a pretty bad pot hole.

              • Guys I'm back at square one .... for all those who know about my LEGENDARY air leakage problem ... it has returned . . so this time i tested it out ... and then disaster struck . TWO bends on the front rim , a little apart from each other ... air was leaking outta the wall at the rate of knots ...

The mech said that he'll try to knock it back into place , using the wood and hammer method , I told him to wait ... So now my only other option is a tube , because I can't afford a new rim now ... any suggestions ?

Tell him to knock it back into place. If that doesn't work, then I guess tube is the only option..man punctures are a pain in the ass..

take it to a rim specialist.... i let a mechanic hammer my rim n ended up riding 80kms on a flat rear tyre as the rim cracked after hammering

O man...ur legendary air leak has returned.....it had spawned countless pages of this thread....ok jokes apart.....
I thought it was taken care of permanently...but this proves our speculation about the RIM was true....

I had seen a rim 'bend remover'(thats what the shop owner had said) in a tyre shop....wasnt a specific brand shop....
So i cant say where would you find it....

But i think its better you find something like that if it really exists....worth a try....

                        • Guys I had filled shell advance 4t FS at odo 1500..its 3200 now and I checked the oil level its below minimum mark!!And the engine is very harsh and gear shifts are clunky..so I decided to put agip FS oil which is 620 rs.Do I have to change the oil filter again as I had already changed it when I filled the shell oil.and also can I pour this oil over the shell oil??

I guess its better to change it along with your engine oil change as you would be running it atleast for the next 3000+kms with your fresh oil.

Anyways, the oil filter just costs for around 65 bucks from SVC so won't burn a hole in your pocket .

If i am not wrong aren't you supposed to shift to FS oil only after covering 4k+ kms on the odo. Guys please correct me if i am wrong on this.

ALAS! It was but a temporary fix ... Luckily unlike last time , I do know the cause of the problem . Now gotta find this rim bend remover , went to the usual tyre shop guy ( michelin dealer ), he doesn't have it , will check up a few places and let you guys know what happens ... if nothing works out , then tube it is

Bro , that is absurdly low mileage for FS oil ... and shell advance ain't that bad . dumb question ... It's not the helix right ??? car oil ? . so yeah you coulda waited for 5k+ to shift to synth unless you really rip your bike everytime you take it out ... but filter change for the FZ16 can be done once in 10K kms ... it's mentioned in the manual and also some guys here . so no worries on that front ... do not mix the oil , drain out the old shell oil and then put in the new one ... it's better that way .

P.S i'm now running Agip FS for a good 5k+ kms and it shows no sign of trouble ... oil is at the halfway mark , so i decided to change it ... looking to try petronas as I heard it's great for FZ ... anybody tried it out and can comment on it ???

                              • rode some 50km today. For some reason it was totally uncomfortable.

Before the first service, everything was perfect about the bike. It had an awesome sound, lots of power, and was also roaring to go faster and faster and it was one hell of a task to keep it below 4k rpm. A couple of times i took it past the 4k rpm and it was thrilling and the bike din feel stressed at all. Moreover i used to get figures of 55+kmpl during this stage
Did the first service on friday (with ~550km on the odo). Had changed the oil, oil filter, cleaned the chain, and applied the chain lube during it. The chain looks as fresh as new now. But looks a bit dry. Din touch it to check if it was because even before the service it looked the same way. Was also having a problem with downshifts, which was rectified. After that the sound seemed kind of dull (din give an adrenaline rush anymore ). Din wanna rip it apart all of a sudden and so i kept within 4k rpm itself, like i had done till the service. During this i got a mileage of around 45. Having expected only 40-45kmpl from the bike, i was happy with the figure, but was concerned why there was a huge drop despite no change in riding style. I was driving it in splendor mode itself, the same way i did and had got 55+ earlier

Today i filled in 100rs worth (around 1.7L) and since i had crossed 600km on the odo, thought of opening up to 6k rpm. I am not sure if i did it the right way. I did upshifts at 3.5-4.3rpm for all gears and took it past 4.5 only in the 5th. But then even by 5k rpm, the engine felt as if it was stressed out. Even the sound was wierd. it was like as if i was accelerating with the brakes applied. I did take it to 6k rpm and touched speeds 70+. But the way the bike sounded made me uncomfortable. It felt like i needed to shift to a 6th gear, but there was no such gear. I hit reserve after 55km. (55/1.7 = 32.xx kmpl). I was not happy with the mileage and more so with the bike's behaviour.

Any idea whats going on ?
