Starter Problem
Guys i am new to XBhp.
Have a FZ 16
3 free service done ...... odo 6800.... 8th month will be in for 4th free service next week

my only problem till now has been the starter...
mornings the bike never starts ... i have to push start it every morning
after a few km of run the starter works fine
and then suddenly at some signal when i kill the engine the bike just refuses to start.... and every time i try the starter the display console resets like when we put the key the rpm meter go to full and then back to zero. the engine red lite switches on and the goes off....

but the bike just refuses to start....
been to orion motors a couple of time but they are not able to fix it...
they checked the battery its charging normally, got electrolyte refilled and charged the battery full twice in a month but within a few days the problem returns....

and when the starter fails .... the horn becomes meek.....
battery is AMCO..... to add to the trouble i misplaced the battery warrenty card

sorry for the long post but i am really pissed off with this ..... every time i kill the engine i have to push start the bike ..... its embarrassing in traffic and at home when the bike is just 8 months ....

suggestions and alternative pls
PS: i guess the battery is 5 Amps ... can i upgrade it to 7/9 Amps for better reliability? will this mess up my bikes electrical's ?

with what you have told i think the battery is getting discharged too quickly.... tell the svc to check the electricals properly for any cuts in the wire, short circuits or grounding problems.....Originally posted by DarKnight View PostGuys i am new to XBhp.

also if you have a multimeter get the voltage readings of the battery.. the starter needs a voltage of around 11-12V to crank....
the 5 amp batt is fine and there is no need to upgrade untill and unless you are going in for some serious electrical modifications like very big horns, or dual HIDs etc...Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

yup the svc guys checked it and the battery charges fine and the reading while charging shows around 13~13.5 V (i'm not sure its V) but i was there when he connected the battery and checked the reading.....Originally posted by Maestro View Postwell i thinl there might be a problem with the charger unit in your motorcycle ......have you checked that once??
i guess the electricals need to be checked as the battery is discharging too quick.... do i need to go to the svcOriginally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postwith what you have told i think the battery is getting discharged too quickly.... tell the svc to check the electricals properly for any cuts in the wire, short circuits or grounding problems.....

or can it be done outside
reason being the svc guys are already pissed off with me and now they want me to drop the bike for 2 days to check the battery and electricals which i cannot do ....
@bangalore guys can anyone suggest where to get my electricals checked....
coming to the battery thing if it turns out the battery is dead pls suggest a MF battery and the approx cost......
PS: there are times in the morning when i plug in the key the entire display is blank and only after i push start the bike the display kicks in to life.....
really pissed off with this problem .....

Thanxs for the prompt replies

if they are not able to resolve the problem drop in a mail to the yamaha customer id and then see the response of your svc....
you should not care even if they are pissed off its your bike, your money and if you are not able to enjoy it because of a fault of the company its they who should suffer....
I would recommend you to NOT take the bike to any other mechanic exept the SVC and give them proper time to check out the electricals because if you take it to some other mechanic then the yamaha svc may claim that the warranty has been void....
and I would definitely drop in a mail to Yamaha if they are not able to diagnose the problem....Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009
