Its just 8000kms, i dont think the plate will go kaput. Get the clutch lever setting proper.

My bike is 7700kms old and the only thing that irritates me is the clutch lever.

What oil are you using?? When was the last oil change done?

      • need some clarification

Hi all FZ owner bros . i am shuvo from BD. i bought my first bike yamaha FZ-S last February. since then i started searching internet to have some knowledge about my

bike and riding. and i found xbhp . this is really an amazing place for bikers.

BTW i have a question regarding my bike. It shows 1277 km in the odo. i have changed engine oil after 500 km as instructed by the SVC guys (dont remember the name

but most probably it was castrol or something from yamaha). the problem is now a days i feel like the bike wants to go to upper gear a bit early. for example suppose it

used to run smoothly till 40 kmph in second gear and then wanted to go to third gear but now it is running smoothly till 30 kmph in second gear and wants to go to

third gear after that. is it a normal behavior or something is wrong with my bike or my maintenance?

(apology for my poor english )

1st of all welcome to the family buddy and congrats for your bike......its a normal behaviour exhibitted by your bike. The bike will slowly unleash its power after the RUN-IN period. just take gud care of her like regular servicing and she will love u back

There is no such mention in the 2009 FZ manual and even in the service manual. Service center never charge me for extra 100 ml every time i changed the filter there in free service. Even without adding extra 100, mine never showed any drop in level.

Exactly. What you have said is right. But, i guess the engine oil is 1L pack. Although, even if the SVC guy replaces the oil filter, he puts the whole 1L can into the engine (i guess so). The charges in the invoice is for 1L and not 1.1L.

                Welcome to xbhp bro

You have changed the oil at every 500kms?? Who said, you have tk change the oil every 500kms?? With 1277 on your odo, looks like you don't drive it much.

Also, 2nd gear and 40kph?? You want to screw the bike??
Never ride in a constant gear for longer period.

Nor has he mentioned he was riding in a constant gear.

SVC guy told me to change the engine oil first time at 500 kms then at 1200. i have changed at 500 once. today i went to the SVC but he said i can ride 100 more kms with the oil and then i have to change. i am not happy with the SVC guys here...they don't seem much expert

at first i was not maintaining the RUN-IN period rules as neither the show room or SVC guy informed me about it. but after learning from XBHP now i am following the rules. hope i haven't screwed up much with the bike

Well bro, if you want to keep your bike in good condition and want it trouble free in the long run, it will be wise enough if the bike is driven in 3rd gear at 40kph.

Somehow i misquoted your "last february" as Feb-2012

Your bike is still in run-in period. Dont stress the bike too much. Also, dont drive at constant speed, keep varying the RPM's. I would advise you to change the oil. Fill up with mineral oil only for time being.

Hope you are aware of how to do the run-in. If not, read previous posts in the forums or read the manual. They have given how to do it.

40kph in the second gear is 6k on ur tach. The FZ redlines at 9k.
The bike will be perfectly fine in the long run. Hell, I shift at 7-8k once the engine's warmed up well

The amount of stress generated at lower gears and higher RPM's is much more.

Nothing to speculate. Its all about the riding style

Using Motul 7100 fully synthetic 20w50..changed 300kms back.
What's so irritating about the clutch lever? The SVC guy scared me more by saying he can burn the clutch plate of a showroom bike within a few hours.so there is no time limit, depends on usage. There is a distinct loss of power right when I shift to 1st gear and depress the clutch. If I don't accelerate around 3k,engine dies.gotta check carb setting.any other ideas?s going tomorrow

Yes the showroom person is quite right, a clutch can be damaged in less than an hr or in a few hundred kilometers.

Have read that a US return burnt an i10s clutch in 150 km on a brand new car. You acn also search and find his thread on the net. He misused it, he was driving automatic cars in US and didnt knew how to operate a manual transmission car.

Can you do an experiment.. I think your bike,s clutch is not damaged but its slipping. Can you use a fresh mineral oil for 100-200 kms and reprt the results!?

As you have recently changed the oil, its a possibility.. there may be some additives in the oil. FS oils does not go good with all the bikes and cluctch can slip with the ussage of these oils.

Also, if the clutch was burning, you must have got burning amell from the engine compartment and the oil would have darkened!
