With respect to the Air filter , again the performance upgrade is not worth the effort ... to get any sort of upgrade out of it , you need to re-jet , FFE and the works , else it is only for the sound ... you will also have to tune your carb to accomodate the increased air flow ... as your bike will run lean , may damage the engine in the long run .

I think for a 5k run engine , the semi synth would be good , although i have no experience with shell oils ... I had put in agip FS after 5k ... it's 10k now , and the engine is showing a bit of harshness only recently . maybe because i haven't ridden it in a while ... i will have to check that up ...Originally posted by rohit52624262 View Post

hey, I agree with you kinshuk but the bike has got so much power that I hardly ride it normally shifting gears as per the sequence u suggested. I think i must try following the patternOriginally posted by kinshuk.arya View Posthi advait,
the thrash mode and normal riding condition varies from person to person.... before going to the svc,try riding your bike around 55-60 in 5th gear, change gears at 3.5-4k rpm for a couple of days and then measure the mileage....

I have done the 1 litre petrol method and got the FE 25 - 30 and its fluctuating. Since I mostly ride in city so I require frequent shifting and can't maintain the RPM as suggested. Thanks for the link i'll definitely check it out!Originally posted by vinchel View PostWell 25 and 35 are extremely bad for the FZ, just fill 1 litre of petrol from reserve and check the air pressures, shift up at 4k and down at 2k and ride constantly at 3.5k at 50km/hr and if you are not getting above 40, just visit Indian Motorcycle Reviews & Bike News - **********.in by Deepak Raj and there is a manual for tuning your bike.
Better do your tuning yourself lest the svc guys touch ur carb settings.

got bottled up in the traffic today. Took around 4 minutes to cover 100m thanks to the bloody autorikshaws. SOBs don't care if there are vehicles to their side. they just twist and turn like there's no tomorrow. There was a junction and i was soo frustrated with these autorikshaws that I accelerated and took a left. within no time i was in 60 in 3rd gear with a clear track ahead of me. Thought i'd do some speed test (which i hadn't done as its new) and so crouched and accelerated. Reached 100 in no time and i was probably at around 6500-7000rpm. Felt like there was lot of power left to take me upto or even beyond 120. I kept accelerating but at 109 i hit reserve. aarrgh. by the time i turned the fuel cock and fuel started flowing in, the speed had dropped to the 90s. I tried accelerating but it took quite a while to hit the 3 digit mark again. :O Was surprised. When i hit 100 few seconds ago it felt like there was lotta power left and this time it took like an eternity to hit 100. Saw vehicles queuing up at the next junction. So i slowed down.

^^ yes , I have posted regarding this ... the bike behaves quite differently on reserve than when the fuel tap is ON , you feel like it's going breathless by the time you hit 85 if it's running on reserve ...People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

oh. guess its normal then.Originally posted by nand15 View Post^^ yes , I have posted regarding this ... the bike behaves quite differently on reserve than when the fuel tap is ON , you feel like it's going breathless by the time you hit 85 if it's running on reserve ...
anyways, felt great at 3 digit speeds. Was rock solid and there was not even a hint of vibration anywhere. Last time i was in 3 digits was on a RTR 160 and the pillion took his feet off the footrest.

since, you have finished the run - in period i don't think there would be any problem tweaking the carb... take it to the svc guys and ask them to check on the carb tuning... i am not sure how you can make them understand not to make the A/F too lean... perhaps fellow xbhp guys can elaborate more on that.Last edited by shv18; 12-04-2010, 01:27 PM.A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

Does anybody know whether it's ok to remove the air filter cover?Originally posted by rohan_5013 View PostThanks for ur replies guys
..It was the classic pulsar(The one without the twin tail-lights) so I guess I hv nothing to be worried abt.The thing tht bugged me was tht no matter hw much i revved my babe
he was still gaining ground..and his is a 7-year old bike!!And I guess our FZ s aren't meant for drags anyways..style,handling,stunting and low end torque
Guys I was thinking of removing the air filter cover to get sm growl outta my beast..any idea of what consequences it could have?

see tempering with the bike is not good one way or the other....Originally posted by rohan_5013 View PostDoes anybody know whether it's ok to remove the air filter cover?
the removal of the cover of the filter is prone to damage the filter before its time... as it will much more prone to dust, moisture, sharp objects, water etc.....
but strictly speaking it is OK to remove the filter it wont hamper the running of the bike in any condition...Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009
