Yea.. went to the svc 2day .. I'll go to the dealer from where I bought my bike, this week and see if my chassis number is in the list.Originally posted by nand15 View PostI believe it has to do with the clutch to help with better , smoother downshifts ...
No probsOriginally posted by Samarth_M View PostWow I can't believe it! I've never even used the choke I have no idea how it came on!!!! Thanks so much. To think I rode like 300 km with it on :| I know there won't be any damage but still!
Incidentally it did feel very good at high RPMs, not as crisp but still very powerful.
Regarding your torsion spring question... all FZ-16 manufactured prior to a particular date had some defect in them... which is being rectified by Yamaha for free. Check back about 10 pages there's some details about them. Search the thread for torsion springs
Actually the same thing happened to me a few weeks after I bought the bike and at time i had the only FZ in my society and every day I found the mirror position changed and the gears engaged. The choke was pulled one fine day and I did 20 kms like that. Showed it to my roommate and he got the problem instantly (his RTR refresh was the only one in the society at the time his bike was new
) and fixed it. I was about to go crying to the SVC but was saved the embarrassment
I remember the older sms also, but that was for push lever and speedometer. Thanks.
Yup, this would have happened since u were running a rich mixture for 300 kms!Originally posted by shv18 View PostWell your engine was being fed with extra fuel hence, the power. i doubt it will have any effect on the engine. however do check the spark plug once for excessive carbon deposit.
You would still have to buy the headlamp cheeks (whats the correct term for this?) to make it look like the 1st gen FZ (grey cheeks). SVC guy will do it without charge if u get it done during a service. Otherwise, the thing is just 4 screws which are to be removed.Originally posted by rkakkar View PostI have an FZ-S and I want to remove the Visor and put the FZ16's headlight. How much would it cost me? And should I get it done from SVC or any local guy can do a good/cheaper job? Also how important is the front number plate in Bombay? :P
Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postyeah after a couple of hundreds the butt starts to ache.... is there any way to reduce that and increase the ache less touring distance.... can the seat be softened by any thing like put in an extra soft cover??Has anyone checked out the seats on the newer batches of FZ's and Fazers? They seem to be somewhat softer than the 1st gen FZ's. I got mine changed. Will let you all know how it is in a while. For softening the seat, one could look at local made stuff - padding to add to the seat.Originally posted by nand15 View Posthmmm ... i know of the butt ache after about a couple hundred kms , but i have seen many people tie their bags to the back seat without any issue ... heck even i did this while transporting some stuff ... did not face any issue with it ...
Also, the mech at the SVC told me that the tyres that the new FZ's and Fazers are getting are different from the ones on the 1st gen FZ's and to me, they looked much better in terms of softness and patterns (someone confirm this in case they notice it too). New tyres are Zapper-FX. Dunno if thats another name for the Revs that the 1st gen FZ's get.
And now, here's a lesson about how to kick your own ass AND spend money while you do it. I went to the SVC coz the seat's stitching at the joint of the front and rear had torn and the foam was showing. i asked for a mesh seat thing (for 1250 bux) but saw that it was not gonna hide it. So I asked how much a new seat would cost. He quoted 700. I was like
and asked for the Fazer seat coz I thought that was a single piece stitching, so no issues would be there like tearing of stitching.
The god of n00bs that i am, after I had paid and took the seat, i saw that the thing that is grey in FZ is black in Fazer but its there and the stitch tearing issues would surely come up again.
And then, while I was riding back, I remembered a Fazer seat locking issue that was being discussed here. I stopped on the side of the road to check it out and sure enough, I had to hit the thing hard to lock it in. I am awesome

Rohan,Originally posted by rohan_5013 View PostDoes anybody know whether it's ok to remove the air filter cover?
Even my cousins FZ-S used to choke on high speeds and used to touch 110 with difficulty. Now we have removed the original air filter from the box and jus put in a simple foam and i am having no issues since then. The bike running smooth and no chokes. I had been to goa after doin that change of air filter and no problem whtsoever. The entire went trip smooth except for the butt ache. I hope this helps.

Erm just would like to add one thing. i would personally refrain from doing any kind of mod if your bike is under the warranty period as yamaha guys will definitely consider your warranty void if they find any mods. Please correct me anyone if i am wrong on this.
@daredemon: just putting a simple foam? won't that hamper the engine in the longer run? i doubt a simple foam has been designed to handle minute dirt particles...why not consider K&N air filter?? just a query..A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

Air Filter
My cousins FZ-S has never been serviced from the authorised service station and its not under warranty too. I guess even by putting a simple foam it would block air particles and dust.Originally posted by shv18 View PostErm just would like to add one thing. i would personally refrain from doing any kind of mod if your bike is under the warranty period as yamaha guys will definitely consider your warranty void if they find any mods. I would like for the experts to comment on this (will this foam hamper the bike's engine in the long run???)
Don't want to try K & N filter coz with that i will have to do a lot of modifications. So just trying to keep it simple.
Senior Members please try and answer my query of foam used as air filter.Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

Memories abt the choke
now mentioning the topic of riding with the choke
, reminds me of my previous bike. It was Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin, V twin engine with twin conical power filters... After a week since I bought the bike, heard some wierd sound under the tank
... tried to investigate but ended up in vain. I had to remove the covers and panels which took me 2 hrs to remove upto the tank
. eventually realized that the choke was on... It was nice practice and trying to understand and get along with the bike. BTW the lights went off at the parking garage so I used a phone torch to continue dismantling the parts...

I'd rather be fast than invisible!!!!!
Bikes previously owned n models
Honda 50cc 97 - scooter
Honda MTX 50 - off road
Suzuki TS 125s - Scrambler
Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin - The massive adventure bike, tourer, off roader n dessert stallion.
Currently
Yamah Fz-s...

They are lucky to get that kind of mileage, I don't get more than 40 even if i ride like splendor.Originally posted by eliksir View Posthehe
just wanted to know if its normal. I have a friend with an FZ-16 and another with a Fazer. Neither of them got above 45 during their run in despite limiting to 4k rpm.---------------------

May be your A/F mixture is still rich?? just speculating. Coz i am still hitting 45kmpl - 47kmpl on splendor mode
. I do religiously check the tyre pressure once a week.
When on splendor mode, i accelerate gently, donot rev beyond 4k band for gear shifts, avoid frequent downshifts unless absolutely necessary and keep the speed limit to max 65 kmph.
However, now i am bored of the super saving scheme and back to a fruit punch of thrash and economy mode
which brings the down the mileage to 36-38 kmpl...
