Right ! , Mine has a 33psi label too ... I have been running it 35psi though on the SVC head mech's advice ... 33psi maybe used for a single rider . I use 35psi as I have a pillion on 90% of my rides ... And btw I don't have a rear rim bend , I have a front rim bend ...
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

then keep the front <30psi.It will work.Bcoz I am riding over the worst potholes one can ever imagine in jigani road, but due to more psi both my rim is holding on.My personal xperiance.

          • My New FZS-BlackGreen (Eclipse)

Hello to all Fellow Xbhpian's !! for the past 6months i have been reading through each and every post about FZ on the xbhp.

Finally i booked my new babe on 6th Dec'2010.....got it deliverd on 9thFeb'2011, being an active member of a riding community in Mumbai -Valiant Riderz...we often go for long distance touring once in a month which includes cornering on ghats, night riding etc...

This made me go for the yamaha FZS..which is one hell of a bike when it comes to cornering at the price of 78,100INR (mumbai).

I have recently put a Bixenon HID with projectors and Angel Lights with a Pressure horn !!

Now my Eclips has become an Eye-Catcher for most of the bikers around my locality, even the R15 guys stop to have a look at it.

I sincerely thanks each member of xbhp...for helping me buy FZS. looking forward for the first service on 5th MArch.

            Some pics ............................

                Hi,

Can you please share with us the source of your information? From where did you gather that the 2008 model did not report a single rim bend, and exactly how much is 'many' (the number of rim bends that were reported in models coming with the 33 psi sticker) ? Also, how can it be ascertained that ppl getting bent rims were riding at the recommended pressure by the company? It also seems weird that the tyre spec was the same in all factory released FZ's since 2008 but they suddenly changed the sticker to say 33 psi for rear? I havn't heard of this change of recommended pressure but it is very likely that I might have missed it. Mine was bought in March 2009, and it says 33 psi for rear on cold tyre.

The reason I'm asking is that it seems weird and self-damaging from Yamaha's point of view to change the recommended tyre pressure from 35 to 33, and in 2 years, they havn't noticed that they have started getting rim bend complaints in large volumes ('many') ; and if they have noticed this trend, they have done nothing about this.

what I am telling is that the 1st lot was coming with 35 psi, some of my friend have 2008 model.in their bike I have noticed that it is 35 psi.they never complained for any rim bend.I am just telling of my perception, thats it.If u know somebodies Fz 2008 pls check it.in the svc I have seen many people complaining about that.Even I have a bend it is 2009 model but is not in rim but the diameter..

                    Oh kk...

Perhaps the pressure change was inducted (Fz was a brand new bike then; a few adjustments are ok ..), I havn't had an opportunity to check it (but if you have seen it, I'll take your word for it).

But that change would have been there because of some issue noticed by / brought to the attention of Yamaha, and they wanted to correct that. The fact that in your circle of friends, the 35psi marked tyres did fine and some of the 33psi marked tyre's rims got bent, would probably not be accurate in a general sense (this is only how I feel).

Essentially, what I am trying to say is this: a lot of ppl (members and non-members who visit the site but havn't joined yet) read the comments posted here. Some treat it like commandments to be adhered to religiously. A lot of people get very enthusiastic about the machine that they love and inadvertently follow half cooked advice (for instance, you will find in this thread some guy had filled up fully synthetic oil in his FZ before 500 kms were over, because he got the impression that FS is the best oil and I will treat my machine with only the best there is (again, this is what I think must have happened in that guy's mind) ) which is not the best advice for the machine in that state. Hence, members should, from their side, try to keep a lookout about what message is going out to the guy reading the post.

                    After reading your post,

you are right but did u seethat earlier 2008 models used to come with 35 psi sticker for rear tire.now they changed it to 33psi & for which many Fz got rear rim bend.I think that none from the 2008 batch reported for rear tire rim bend.
for a split second, I thought that perhaps this is actually why I've heard there have been some complaints about the rims' quality. It was all hearsay and I don't have a source which either confirms it or denies it.... just the posts here in this thread where ppl have mentioned that the rim is flimsy (u see how opinions get formed based on the posts of a thread? )

But then I thought that a company would not change a setting on its product that is working, to a setting that is causing damage, for no apparent reason. That is why I asked you to hint to a source where you can get this confirmed.

So, dear friend, it is very important to mention that what you are saying is your opinion / perception / judgement, and not plain fact. And your reply to my question about the source clearly mentions what the context / conditions were, on which you were basing that statement, which was unknown to us earlier.

I took 40 minutes to type out this post, coz I wanted it to have as neutral a tone as possible, without offending anyone, and mostly, wanted to mention that this is all my personal opinion () ; I am neither gaining nor losing anything by trying to control the accuracy of the content. I just didn't want anyone to plant seeds of mistrust towards any company or person or product, thus leading to an inaccurate impression about any company or person or product, without adequate reason.

Enough OT, now back to topic... Update about my Pirelli Sport Demon - Its running great. For the last 2 tankful's, i have noticed that the FE has gone up (touchwood!!) from 38 to 42ish.. not very sure if it is because of the tyre spec change but nothing much else has changed on the bike..

                            I am just being a myth-buster here!!

Dude thats what I meant to say. Please read the post carefully. Here it is I am quoting it for your again.

Also in cold conditions if you fill extra pressure in your tyres then the air is bound to expand more after sometime. So the pressure will again increase and your ride will be more bumpy.

What I meant to say is fill the air in cold conditions. After sometime the air is bound to expand because of tyre getting hot. Its simple Physics dude. Air will expand in hot conditions and contract in cold.
Also quoting something from the links you provided. Explain me how it is different with what I said.
Tires must be checked when they are cold; that is, before they have been run a mile. If you must drive over one mile for air, before you leave home, measure the cold inflation pressure of each tire and record the actual under-inflation amount for each tire
I believe the tyre companies are smart enough than us. Thats the reason they give recommended tyre pressure the conditions.

                            • @s_and_m: I have been through many potholes even at 90 KMPH where I was about to lose balance, but never faced any issues with the RIMS…touchwood . Only problems I am facing currently is the front tyre skidding a bit nowadays as I brake hard. I guess its 19K on my odo right now and need to get a new one in few days.
@nand15: How did you get your bend rim fixed?
