what ever oil you choose you will be charged for it.... there is not much difference between the mineral and the semi synth oil... althought the price difference is almost double....

you can shift to ss whenever you want after running in of the bike

AFAIK yamalube SS doesnt come in 20W40 but it is 20W50 which is not recommended for FZ/FZ-S/Fazer
u can go for any one with the rating of xxW40 (correct me if wrong)
wat i got from reading and finding is the most recommonded brands for Fz is Motul 20W40 or 15W40 or Agip 20W40

i have covered more than 9000 kms but only on recommended periodic oil changes on motul mineral oil 20WX40... and i am extremely happy with the performance and the vibe free running so far. If you do intend to go the semi synth way i would recommend the Motul brand only and if i am not wrong there is 15WX50 oil from their end... check with the svc guys whether it is compatible with FZ

          Cheers

                        • guys i need to ask something which i m facing problem with my fz...
first...the engine hs got a start up problem in the morning everyday.. not able to rectify it.
secondly..the engine shuts down automatically when i pull it to 80-90 which i found out after installing a k&n.
thirdly...the engine makes a bursting noise when i throttle it up.
                          plz reply to my queries...

all your problems might be related to the improper tuning of carb.... try get it tuned by someone who has already successfully installed a k&n... you might have to upjet your carb as well...

as a performance air filter increases the volume of air in the engine it needs to be compensated by inputting more fuel in the engine....

i would say nay!!! atleast in my case, did the 1st servicing in 3 weeks after hitting 1000kms on the same engine oil... and bike after 9000+ kms is still awesome in terms of performance and decent mileage figures...

so i don't think it is needed as long as you religiously follow the manual as your bible... being gentle with the bike for the 1st 250 kms under 4000 rpm and then post 500 kms 4500- 5500 rpm and then post 750 kms not more than 6000 rpm and all throughout shifting various gears to load the engine and help it set better.

my guess the ********** guys must have been talking about the motoman technique of breaking in the engine..(before anyone asks, please do check it online what it means)

                              cheers
