He was also very professional and resolved all the problems with the bike. Everything worked like a charm for 3-4 months then the problem is back. Complained the same to ASC guys..... and as you might have guessed.. they repeat the same old story... it is very normal, that's the way a bike would sound.

I somehow lived with it, completed around ~15K kms now, every now and then when I go over a pothole or a speed breaker the "tak" "tak" noise pisses me off. I called up Yamaha back office again today and asked them straight forward "what will it take for Yamaha to accept the fact that their bike has a problem?"... I was asked for the details.. repeated the story agian......and informed them that this problem is reported with many people... why dont they analyse it do a recall if there is any issue?. To which they say, nobody complained to them about this problem, many come with many different kind of problems but we haven't heard this problem repeatedly in complaints that we get.
This made me think....blood hell, they don't even know that many have this problem.

Saying this, I encourage all the people who got this problem to call Yamaha back office and register their complaint.

BTW, I did receive call from a ASC as the complaint was forwarded to them and they invited(yeah, this is the word they used) me to bring the bike for a check up, once they find the issue they'll forward the information to Yamaha for the resolution. I very promptly said NO, with the argument that, you couldn't find what the problem was till now and I have been giving the same complaint in all my services, you couldn't do anything till now, how do yo expect me to believe you guys? and more over I don't want to waste my time for you to troubleshoot and learn/experiment with remote help from Yamaha.

I got the same tak tak sound. They correct it at every service, it will come back in a day or two. Steering column and fork oil seal are okay as per them and local mechanic. Learned to live with it (31k km)

yeah I've ridden the N250R as well ... Just for the speed thrill it offers . nimble yes , but the mirrors and fairing kind of make me ride it a bit cautiously ... replacement gets expensive right ?

P.S: Guys a really annoying problem has now cropped up ... I get a sound like some bolt has come loose and is hanging around when I ride , i cannot seem to figure out from where it actually emerges , sometimes it feels like the engine area , sometime from the rear end of the bike ...

It started after I had cleaned and lubed the bike chain ... Before that it was non-existent . I re-checked all the bolts and tightened them but still the sound persists ... and it is not there at idle , it starts as soon as the bike starts moving ... generally on the 1st 2 gears and it is intermittent . It's making me go nuts

            Hi Henry,
            Thanks for the response.
Did you fix a new relay or something...
I have seen people fix twin horns on the frame itself, just in front of the grill. I might take the bike to a mechanic by the weekend.

In my case, there were two distinctive sounds coming from the front part of my bike. One the tak-tak sound mentioned above and another a whining sound.
              The tak-tak is gone now.
But the whining caused me such irritation as it used to go up once I pick up speed. It sounded just like an old RTC bus running with it brakes not fully released. Initially the service and a local mechanic told me it was coming from the fork. But that was not the case. Then finally, I went to the floor supervisor at the svc and he immediately said it was coming from the axle. There was no lubrication in the bush. They resolved the issue. They had to remove the wheel and clean and re-lubricate the bush.
The tak-tak sound never bothered me much. Anyways, both sounds are gone....
Yamaha customer service was never upto the mark......

Does it sound like a constant grinding sound with heavy bass?????

I'd suggest u to pin-point be gettin the bike on Center Stand then start up the bike, put it n gear n let the tire roll freely.....do so again in 2nd gear and see where the noise is coming from.

As u said it crops in 1st n 2nd gear more then i had similar prob and ma mech told me ma chain had gone bad.....got it replace las week and its all smooth as silk now
PS - how much KM has the bike covered till now?

no it's not constant , more intermittent ... take a bolt , put it in a tin can and shake it ... not that loud but a mild version of the same and probably like if you shake the tin can once or twice and thats about it ... And it happens in the 1st two gears ... tried putting on the stand and checking , no sound ... the minute it hits the tarmac and starts running ... the noise comes up , really annoying

bike has clocked 16480 kms ... i just revved the bike to look for the sound , but does this seem okay to you guys ?

My chain started giving a ruk-ruk sound ever since the 6th service was done.
It's constant and increases in frequency once I speed up. When I checked with the svc people, they said it's because the sprockets have worn out unevenly. I haven't changed the sprockets or chain yet.

Looks like your chain needs tightening. Lubing the chain actually frees it from friction and hence loosened it. But not so much as to affect the motion.
You should get it checked by a mechanic and see what needs to be done....

Trying to pin-point what conditions are different b/w the bike in center stand and while riding..only thing I can think of is the tyres would be in contact with the ground..hopefully you figure out what's wrong soon..
                      could it be lose tappets??

OT:Why did you remove the silencer cover??

Loose tappets should show on idling too , I have had that problem before and i know what that sounds like . I'm thinking more along the sprockets , as it looks like it has something to do with the ever troublesome front sprocket . Will have to check that out now and will keep you guys posted .

Does all your bikes sound similar to the video ?

Reply to OT : I did not remove it per say , it just broke and i didn't bother replacing it .

From the sound of your video, I couldn't find anything unusual from the engine.
Its difficult to distinguish anything different.

I would suggest sticking to mineral till about 5K kms ... you can switch after that ... The price I still think is at 450Rs ... can't confirm it though .

P.S: Guys I do believe that my chain's time is up ... I'm not completely sure but I did another re-check of all the bolts , nuts and whatever to solve the annoying noise ... I also figured that the chain did actually seem a bit loose ... so I tightened that and the noise has dropped a bit ... again maybe a pyschological effect ... but it still does exist .

If the sound arises from the rear, you must try checking the nuts in the end of the swingarm. Cause they tend to loose off when you lube the bike (atleast that is what happened to me a couple of times )
