  • have been having starting issues for past few months!!
there is no problem in starting the bike at first.but if the throttle isnt pushed for long the bike shuts off and starting it again is a big problem.

using choke hasn't found any benefit!!and its not related to early morning blues!
its always same for the first start,be it morning, noon or night!

once the bike has been taken for a spin, there is no issues watsover, its smooth as ever.

is it a battery issue or engine oil problem (having occasional diffiticulty in shifting gears) or some other issue!!
Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

Check the engine idling speed... it is probably set very low... as a result when, engine is cold it would stall within 5 - 10 secs if one doesn't use the throttle.

      • Ok guys , a quick question
What do you use to clean the engine exterior ? I use Wash n Wax + Turtle wax for the panels and tank but what about the engine crank ? Its matte black so if one uses wax , the white residue gets deposited , the svc guys use diesel with a brush after washing for cleaning those parts here

NEVER, EVER DO THAT!!! Too many people have lost bits of their fingers doing that!
Just spin you wheel by hand, engine stopped! That is IMPERATIVE!

Yes, is is normal, besides that, that your wheel turns when it is on the central stand, in gear and even completely de-cluchted, lever touching the handlebar grip, but you should then be able to hold it with just a light touch, and feel no real effort. The only spinning of the oil is sufficient to give that rotation. Would you, then, feel any torque on the wheel but a really very light one, this would mean you do not de-clutch completely enough, and should tension the cable that little more.
Thats a relief hearing from a pro.regarding the cleaning I use a long toothbrush all the time & dont use my hand at anytime of cleaning.

I dont know what the SVC use but I use normal Colin for cleaning my crank & even the tank also.I am pretty much happy with the result of that.you should try it once.

A lot has been discussed on this thread regarding chain & sprockets and its effects. Simple answer: use what is recommended by the manufacturer.. it will set you back by only Rs 1300/- for the whole set (chain & sprockets) but will last you 15- 20,000 kms. If you want specific answers then please go through the previous posts on this thread.

if you have brand new spare chain set of yamaha enticer you can cross check with the part numbers of an fz's chain set with an svc.. If they are the same.. May be you can.
In any other situation like Shv said - a big NO.

Haha, I lost my yamaha warranty when I changed my lights. I was thinking about the insurance, won't I be able to renew it stating my aftermarket parts?

I know some insurers in other countries allow this, possible here?

yeah you can renew your insurance just dont give the details of the aftermarket parts and if by chance anything goes wrong first revert back to the stock parts and then head for the SVC,,,

Yup like Kinshuk has stated.. just don't mention it to the insurers... if anything goes wrong (highly unlikely, unless not installed correctly and negligence towards general maintenance !!) then revert back to stock and take it to svc to claim your fame

                        • 18,300kms+ ownership experience report

                          Hi All,

I am now slowly inching towards the 20k figure. So here are the details of my FZ-X :

                          1) The FE has suddenly gone down to 32 - 35 kmpl. I suspect the air filter is pretty much clogged now as i have been ridiculously riding her without cleaning it at all. The Air filter has done about 10,000 kms so far so will get it replaced in the coming servicing.

                          2) Engine is still very smooth thanks to MOTUL FS 15W 50 DOUBLE ESTER. Kms covered so far with it: 4,270 kms. Engine oil is still golden brown slightly darker but that's about it. I shall replace it when i hit 5000 kms. Only one top up, 30ml done at 3900 kms.

                          3) My bike's horn is acting a bit weird, during idling, the horn will start sounding as if the battery has died. But my bike cranks to life without any problem. So i guess, most likely there is some wiring issue. No other electrical issues besides this.

                          4) My ride has had only 2 punctures so far and that's about it. So fingers crossed, i hope i don't hit any more till the replacement time comes. The bike still has phenomenal grip, however at extremely high speeds, the rear tire is slowly showing signs of aging. There are long cracks appearing between the grooves of the rear tire as reported by other users as well. once every 5th/ 6th day, i am losing 1-2 psi normal air on the rear tire which is pretty ok. I will replace the tires somewhere around 25-26,000 kms and switch to offroaders for my planned trip to Ladakh (lets hope this time i make it!!).

                          5) My Race Concepts power up kit transformation is still pending as i am unable to find time out of my hectic work schedule.

Will post report soon after i get it serviced which is due in less than 700 kms.

                          Cheers,

PFA the service manual for fz-16: Manual_servicio_FZ16.es.en.pdf

This is a translated version (from spanish). The translation might not be spot on but something's better than nothing.

Thanks to Lucky Luke for pointing the spanish version is a separate thread.

                              Enjoy !!
