Re: Yamaha Fazer 150
Aftermarket filters don't give any advantage over stock filter. Aftermarket filter will allow more air flow into the cylinder, which will give no power gain and your engine might run lean. So, avoid it. Else, your decision.Originally posted by Fazeroid View Post

Re: Yamaha Fazer 150
See it this way. An engine is nothing but a glorified air-pump. It basically takes in air from the air filter, does a whole lot of mumbo-jumboOriginally posted by Fazeroid View PostWhy is that bro
(mixes with fuel, pumps into the cylinder with precise timing and then burns producing power) and then pushes the air out of the exhaust.
Now you want to install an after-market air filter which allows more air in. If you do that you have more air but nothing has been done to increase the amount of fuel being mixed with it. So the engine will burn a mixture which has less fuel for the available air. This leaner mixture burns much hotter thus your engine parts are now enduring more heat. This causes the engine internals to go bad (in extreme cases they melt down seizing the engine).
Lets say you up-jetted your carburettor to increase the fuel flow and now the mixture is back to the correct ratio (a stoich mix). Now your engine will run better but the exhaust you have is still your stock exhaust which was designed to handle the amount of air coming from the stock air-filter. This exhaust cannot handle the increased air coming from the after-market air filter. So the air flowing out of the exhaust will slow down to whatever the exhaust can handle and then the back pressure will cause the air-filter itself to draw in less air.
So, in summary, just adding an aftermarket air-filter does more harm than good. To make best use of it you have to up-jet your carb and then install an after-market free-flow exhaust.
So if you plan on solely installing an after-market air-filter then we'd suggest stick with stock.
Hope it helps

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Hi Everyone, I bought my Yamaha FZ-S in 2009 March, bike will be 6 years in coming few months.
While it was good in the start, slowly the bike started to get old, old in the sense performance wise and minor problems and hit by low mileage...Bike's performance was gone, fuel efficiency was less than 25km, vibration, fork oil leak, chain stretch, worn-out sprocket, clutch plates requiring replacement, max speed did not cross beyond 86, very low pick up...
Today I paid a hefty price to get the bike back to its assumed performance, I have attached the parts that had to be changed/serviced with an estimation of 11 thousand rupees! i never thought i would have to spend that much or any bike in the past...what has been your experience with Yamaha bikes? especially Yamaha FZ16/S/Fazer.

Replace the fork oil and seals. Happens on our 'smooth' roads.
Replace the battery. It might be dead.
Change the air filter and do regular servicing. Also get the carburettor cleaned.
Mate, for an owner of two years, these things should have been done long back.
Ride safe and have fun.

.but regarding the self starter I think it's not the battery because my horn, headlights, indicators work perfectly.

So, the bike just fails to crank when you hit the starter or is it making the thad thad sound as it cranks over? If its the former then you'll need to replace the starter motor brushes.

Re: Query regarding Engine oil
Strange Problem with Handle Bar Guys. When I sit idle on the bike the position is good. But when I start riding the Left hand side is bit higher than the right and angle of holding is also a bit different. What could be the problem? I had just changed the coneset of the bike and the front tyre is 37k old.

Maybe the alignment isn't correct.Originally posted by Mizt View PostStrange Problem with Handle Bar Guys. When I sit idle on the bike the position is good. Best is to check the gap between the handle bar from the tank at both extreme directions.
Continue using SS. No problem with that.Originally posted by Aadi__Wasi View PostI live in Gurgaon and winter is coming [emoji3]. So is it good to opt mineral oil or continue to use SS. I ride mostly in City and occasionally go for long ride.
Should I stick to Yamalube Mineral Oil or go for Motul 3100?
Tada..
Btw, Motul 3100 is also mineral. Motul 5100 is SS
Open the switch assembly and clean the switch with wd40/zorik etc. I also used to have this problem in monsoon. Rust form and it doesn't let the connection to be made.Originally posted by snehith View PostIt cranks over sometimes. N mostly it doesn't even crank.theres no response when I push the button.
The problem may be something else, still its worth a try.
Ride safe and have fun.
