Most cops in big cities are aware of the colours available on vehicles. So if you change to white panels, the cops might be aware that it's not a standard colour. In any case, most cops won't bother stopping you just because you changed the colour; it's always because of something else and the fact that the colour doesn't match regn. is just another possibility for a fine!

                • I happened to open my air box cover for the air filter and moved it to the front by may be 2 cms and another hole which was meant to hold the small breather pipe, i used it to screw the cover to the air box.... leading to a gap and a roaring sound like the K & N filter.....
                  does this increase air intake???
does it affect the machine at the long run??

hope my description is good enough

I think it's best to go enquire at the RTO where the bike is registered or the jurisdictional RTO if the address has been changed. You can then decide whether or not it's worth involving the RTO (applications, queues, fees, etc.).

If you want, leave just one panel yellow. Atleast you will be able to argue that the regn details are still correct!

                          Materials
                          - Kerosene: about 250 ml
                          - Paint brush: 25 mm (1")
                          - Old Newspaper
                          - Clean rags
                          - Cup to hold the kerosene
                          - Chain lubricating spray

                          Method
I dipped the brush in kerosene and liberally applied and brused it on the chain on the inner and outer surfaces as well as both the sides, along the entire length until any visible dirt such as sand or other grains was washes off.

I then cleaned the rear sprocket too in the same way, taking care not to let the dirt fall on the chain.

I started the engine, engaged 4th gear and accelerated and let the wheel spin (on the main stand, of course) for a minute until any free kerosene and dirt flew off it. This is like the spin dry cycle in washing machines!

After leaving a few more minutes for further drying, I applied the chain lube spray. I had a brand called Tribocor, from Mysore, on hand. It comes out as a thick foam that quickly turns oily and viscous. I ran the engine with 1st gear engaged so the chain was moving slowly and sprayed the entire length of the chain.

Then, when the spray was still wet, I ran the engine in 4th gear and spun the wheel for a minute to eject the excess lubricant from the chain. I had someone hold some newspaper sheets behind the bike to prevent it flying all over the place.

This particular brand is quite messy since it dries into a thick, waxy substance and dirt sticks to it. So I used the rags dipped in kerosene to wipe away the lube that fell on the wheel and other places.

I then waited for a couple of hours for the lube to dry or until it was no longer "wet" to the touch and then re-sprayed the chain as before. A second round of cleaning followed.

At the end of it, the chain looks like it new!

I had used this lube spray on my FZ before my Pondycherry trip without even cleaning the chain and I had no problems with the chain, especially in the rain (hundreds of km of it!) and dust.

                          Additional Info
Most chain and bike manufacturers advice using kerosene to clean all types of power transmission chains. This method is definitely the less fun one as compared to simply spraying on a chain cleaner but in my opinion, the better method. The discussion on chain lubes on Xbhp are many and long and I think any good quality spray will work fine.

See above for one of my old posts on cleaning the chain.

                          I must add the following:
                          - Kerosene is preferred but diesel is an alternate solvent cum cleaner

                          - A single spray of the lubricant is sufficient so long as the entire length of the chain is coated.

                          - There's no need to remove the excess lubricant since in most cases it will dry into a sticky coating.

                          - The lubricant takes an hour or more to dry. If the bike is used before the lube is dry, the lube will just fly off the chain. So plan ahead before using it.

                          - Use a pair of disposable gloves when cleaning since kerosene and diesel are particularly difficult to get off from skin.

                          - Dirty kerosene stains concrete floors and dissolves asphalt (tar). So use plenty of old newspaper under the chain and the bike and behind the chain as well.

                          - KEEP YOUR FINGERS SAFE FROM MOVING CHAINS! Use the extension tube on the lubricant spray can. I'm brave (and maybe foolhardy!) so I run the engine to spin the wheel. If you are alone or not confident, just spin the wheel by hand.

To clean the air filter, just follow the instructions in the manual. I'm not sure but I think the filter is made of pleated paper. This should only be cleaned with compressed air. If you don't have compressed air, bad luck!

i had ones posted the results of each step....it isn't tht hard actually.
i used MOTUL chain clean and Lube
1.Spray the Cleaner on the chain,in,out and on the sides, best is to do it while rotating the rear wheel.

2.after spraying the cleaner, rotate the wheel few more times and then leave it for 5-7 mins.

3.by now the old lube should have loosened up.take an old tooth brush and brush the chain completely

4.take a cloth and wipe the chain thoroughly,so tht all the residue will come off, wipe it as much as you can,i usually wipe it till its shining silver

5.after 5-10 mins apply the LUBE,the same way you applied the CLEANER,again rotate or leave the gear in first(of course in center stand) for a min and then leave it idle for 5-10 mins...

                              thts it then vroom vroom!

NOTE-BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU ARE GOING TO WIPE THE CHAIN WHILE IN FIRST GEAR,.many ppl have chopped their finger off, including me.safest way is to rotate the wheel by yourself.

ALSO,you can keep news papers behind the chain so tht Cleaner and Oil dont spill on to any other parts.

                              UPDTAE-here is my old post

hey guys,i for the first timed cleaned a lubed the chain...here are some pics

                              3.Dirt brushed of and wiped
                              4.Chain cleaned and lubed

                              • i read somewhere online kerosene is not good for the "O" ring.. that is why even in yamaha manual they recommend using chain cleaner and against kerosene..
