Dude, read mixed reports on this, I personally wouldn't drill mine and have never drilled the filter box. I have used K&N in the past but not on the fz-s.Originally posted by ABZ View PostAny idea about drilling the outer cover of the ir cleaner so that the bike breathes freely?? I heard some guys completely remove the outer cover after the filer and just tie the filter not to move
In my opinion a new filter element would do the trick

Fellas....i had been using normal petro; until my 2n service.....
After that i switched to Xtrapremium petrol.....there were no performance issues whatsoever....
but the engine used to get damn HOT!!!!!
...and i mean REALLY hot.....
But few days back i emptied the tank and poured in normal petrol....now the engine doesnt get that HOT
....
So all these days was the engine being harmed by overheating.....or can anybody tell me what is this issue with the additive petrols
....
I am worried about the engine due to that much heating constantly....

Hey, no SVC will provide the parts for freeOriginally posted by Galaxtus View PostYES
But today i changed it back to Stock one because my bike is due for service. Its mentioned that after 12000 kms they will change it with new (mentioned on the book). SO 2 NEW PLUGS
Unless they provide free

.
Need to do something about the top speed though
. They've charged me 105/- for the stock plug last time on my 6th service. I'll visit DSG tomorrow to see the Iridium IX for FZ. Will let you all know about the update sooner...
And guys, please don't think that the SVC guys will change the parts themselves. It depends upon the persons who makes the job sheet for your bike. You have to say proactively to them about the part changes. My bike has crosses 14K+ and till date I've changed Air filter, Brake pads and brake shoes, Clutch play cable, Air duct, Spark plug, Rear sprocket. Just read the manual and judge the change period from your ODO rather than months. Also it depends a lot on your riding style. If you ride a lot on the higher speeds like me, then the changes are sure to take place at a more frequent pace. So keep a check on that front too.Last edited by ayushkant; 01-29-2010, 11:33 AM.Stabl'ised by: BlackCat (FZ-16), BlackBird (ThunderBird)

Even I have completed 11.5K and done with 6th servicing. The SVC had proactively asked me to change the Air Filter,Oil Filter,Brake Pad,Rear Brake Shoes, and Spark Plug.
Yamaha by default has a NGK spark Plug.I asked him which spark plug did he install and he showed me the NGK one.Thats cool!
Another thing he had also asked me to change the front and rear sprockets and chain since I am done with 11.5K. The the pairs costs whopping 1300.
I am planning to get the sprockets manufactured from a friend who owns a steel business.Lets see if this works out.Would keep posted!
I am planning to increase the rear sprocket teeth numbers. Not sure! Would need more consultation.
Guys, is it adviceable to increase the number of teeth in sprockets?has anyone done this before. The Fast and the Curious kind!!!

I have read somewhere in the forum that R15 sprocket is good for the fz. Obviously gives good initial pick up, but lacks top end and lowers milage by 3-4kmpl.Originally posted by ankit63 View PostEven I have completed 11.5K and done with 6th servicing. The SVC had proactively asked me to change the Air Filter,Oil Filter,Brake Pad,Rear Brake Shoes, and Spark Plug.

Second Free Service Report
Where: Pacer Motors Bangalore
When: Jan 27th (95 days from purchase)
Odo: 1806 (Ya not a lot...)
Specified Probs: Engine overheating at dist > 30km. Mileage Pathetic. Gears very notchy (esp from N to 1 and 2 to 1)
Jobs done: Tuning, Changed oil, Chain lube, Adjust brake and clutch
Review: Engine is quite smooth now. Havent seen the overheat from the engine so far (touch wood
) All levers are fine. Gears are better but only time will tell for how long. Mileage will have to check from next fill.
Also the guy had revved the engine at high rpms and then showed me a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust. I was like WTF...

He said the engine isnt tuned correctly. He said he'd adjust it.
OT: Got the bike the same day. I dont think he got a lot of bikes that day, coz for my 1st service there were a lot and had to take only the next day.Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

Hi guys..........a very strange problem is bothering my fz s for past few months now and the kind of attitude SVC guys have I guess its better to post here and get solution.
Previously on refills the bike 's last bar on fuel metre wud blink till 50-60 kms and then go off and after next 20kms or so I had to resort to reserve.
Now the I have to put bike on reserve on the last bar itself and only then it starts else it behaves as if there is no fule in mains..........thought that it might be a display error which had happpened earlier also and req some cleaning of the switch but weirdly bike's average came crashing down to 25 or from 40-42 as noticed from trip metre which showed the same 50-60 kms short for the last bar range.....for the next two refills the same thing happened and now I have switched to reserve but the bike has run normally for about 100kms on reserve
M still confused wat is happening bcoz the SVC guys could only say after making me wait for 15 mins "sir ji sab theek hai aapko veham ho gaya hai"........thats the kind of service offered!!!
so guys what could be wrong?? why the last bar reserve and extended range in reserve??

People I would like to share one observation with you:
First,
I earlier did my first initial 2 servicing at a Yamaha Dealer, a franchisee. The cost of spare parts n oils, filters etc differs between a Factory Workshop and a Dealer Workshop. Just for eg - The sprockets pairs and chain at Factory workshop was Rs 1300 whereas at Dealer Workshop its Rs 1500.

Same goes with oil and filters etc.Always some more costlier than the factory showroom.
The Dealers used a Yamaha Lube mineral oil whereas the Factory Showroom Workshop had recommended me a Semi Synthetic Oil. The quality of chain lube differs. I mean the Dealer used some (WTF) lube spray for chain. A mixture of 2 cans had to be applied.Costed me Rs 150.If you wash ur bike..away goes the lube...and on the other hand the Factory workshop applies some kind of motul lube which forms a white greasy waterproof coating over the chain fo Rs 200. But its worth it.
Another incident that I would like to share with you is at again at the franchisee end.
I went there to collect my mudflaps. I thght if would be good if I lube my chain as I it was rainy season then. When I arrived there, there was a red R15 being washed. The owner was waiting for the bike. The mechanic told the owner of R 15 to come after an hour.In the meantime I convinced the fellow out there to lube my bike for 100 bucks. He cleaned my chain and applied lube. Later when I was just about to leave the R15 owner came. The mechanic bluffed him that he has applied the lube and that can be visible on the ground and lube drops are still falling on the ground..when infact that was water dripping off after the wash. The R15 owner was convinced that his bike fully serviced and drove happily when infact all the while he was away, the mechanic was buzy cleaning n lubing my chain!

WTF was that. From that day I stopped servicing my bike at the dealer and went to Factory Outlet SVC.The Fast and the Curious kind!!!
