      What is the Carburetor setting to be done , to get better mileage ?

            Guys I have offlately noticed quiet a wierd sound from my bike while i ride it on very quiet roads at nights. At first i thought that sound is due to some problem in my front forks but realised it soon enough that it is from engine maybe because i hear it only when I let go off my accelerator completely around 50-60 kmph & use engine braking to slow down for a turn. The sound comes all the time after letting off the accelerator & until I start accelerating again. If I engage the clutch in between then the sound vanishes in an instant so I can vouch for it that the sound is definitely when engine braking is in force with no use of accelerator/clutch/any of the brakes.

            I spoke to SVC guys but they say its normal as they dont hear any substantial sounds due to their test drives on busy streets in aftrnoon. Its quiet irritating on my night rides..

            No such sound from another FZ of my friend almost same used as mine..

            Any idea guys??

              I have been through that DIY bro & yes it is realy helpful but I would recommend it to be done only by someone who understands the DIY actually & able to differentiate the A/F screw of FZ carb & understand the clockwise/anticlockwise movements as notified in DIY.. Seems simple enough on screen but its different when needs to be practically done. Hence do it only if confident. It would help if you tune your carb in morning time, that way if you screw up, you can run for help from SVC. Do it at night & if you screw up, no major problems, just a sleepless night (I have experienced it )

              If Your bike is new, particularly in run-in period, please dont even think about experimenting with the carb, otherwise you can no easily go to a SVC or use DIY method

              Downshift @ 2 K ?? are you sure about that bro?
              Any reason for that or any references because I would love to go through it as so far 15 k on my odo but I have been never below 3 k rpm to shift down & my usual downshifts are between 3-4 k only..

              If your info is correct, I need to adjust downshifts accordingly soon.

                  this is just what i follow when i want more mileage from the bike nothing more than that.....

                  when i do this i normally get a mileage of around 43-44kmpl...

                    upshifts at 4k and downshifts at 2k returns me the best mileage.
                    my carb is on the leaner side though

                      even somewhere around 40 would be a boon for me so done, next few 100 kms I'll try adjusting to downshifts @ 2 k & see the difference

                      Great.. 4 k upshifts are regular for me but never downshifted at so less.. that might be a slight factor in very less FE


                      PS: @ Ranjith: I dont think Joel has yet finished his FFE development for FZ series, though SHV18 or Joel himself can vouch for that for certainity

                        if you are getting a high pitched noise which also reduces along with the slowing down of the bike every time you leave the accelerator between 50 - 60 kmph or higher... then don't worry it is quite normal... i am no engineer but my guess is... it is the sound of the front sprocket connected to the transmission.... nothing to worry about though...


                        I am not sure whether Joel has completed the FFE yet... the best person to answer would be Joel himself.. i am currently busy soaking the beauty of North East hence, haven't been able to come online very often..

                          Got a question..my friends told we need to rip the fz to 7k + occasionally like once in a week or else the performance of the engine will degrade ..that is engine performance will be reduced if you like ride it in 60-80 speed always ..is there any truth in this?Do reply guys..thnx

                            by the concept of engine getting adapted to the riders riding style it might be true but saying that the engine's performance will deteriorate is a bit far fetched... i dont think that the engine performance will degrade...

                            each and every part in the engine compartment polishes itself according to the daily riding habits.

                                I agree to that view.. But still it doesnt make a vast difference, I have ripped my FZ almost all the time & at the similar time by bro is relatively a splendor mode rider since last 2 yrs on his FZ with very few occassional short high speed runs so practically the usage of both the FZ was totally opposite but still when I ride my bro's FZ, it is equally punchy at low end & top grunt of 115+ easily like mine after almost equal number of KMS & age of both bikes & similar service schedules..

                                I doubt it is due to sprocket bro, I have replaced my front sprocket to 15T & tried the same mods with my frnd's FZ too.. I have 4 FZ's in access in my friends & family but none of them creates such an annoying sound & to answer your question, NO the sound doesnt decrease & the speed decrease.. Infact lower the engine sound gets, higher the irritating sound.. I presume it has something to do either with clutch plates or some other internals.
