yeah, AFAIK, the faring is alright.. Even when the bike fell down, there were just a few scratches on the side panel but the faring overall was good..

If you know a local mechanic, it would be better to get it checked once by him.

Sometimes it turns out that the issue might not be as serious as we perceive it to be. Some time back I used to hear a rattling sound whenever the bike revved over 4000rpm, it got me really worried. SVC told me that nothing is wrong. After a few days I figured out that the rear numberplate was loose, tightened the nut and everything was ok.

But still for your peace of mind get it checked by a trustworthy mechanic, you never know what could be wrong.

For the past few days, I had been feeling a increase in the engine sound and it felt a little too rash on high speeds, so I wanted to get this checked and was heading to the SVC last Saturday.

On my way to SVC, I met with an accident. It wasnt anything major, I was behind a truck, which stopped suddenly and I had to resort to panic braking. The front wheel got locked and the rear one skidded a little. It was still manageable, but then the car behind me bumped in, I lost the balance and fell down. As I had already stopped before the impact, the bike didnt skid or anything, but the side mirror got bent a bit and the handle bar and fork got misaligned.

I went to the SVC directly to get these fixed and asked the mechanic to check for the engine noise too. As the bike has done >11K, I wanted to get the front brake pads changed too. I got the bike back in about 3 hrs time with all things fixed. When I took it for a test ride everything looked normal and hence, I took it back.

The next day, while riding I noticed a peculiar "tick-tick-tick" sound on higher speeds. The frequency of this sound increased with the acceleration and as the bike got hotter, it increased. Riding on low gears, its not as prominent, and isnt even noticeable until the speed reaches 60+. The bike also started dying out on neutral and when not moving. I suspected it to be a case of low idle RPM (it was almost 1K).

It was Sunday and the SVC was closed so I decided to get it checked on Monday. However, due to some urgent requirements at office, I couldn't visit the SVC on monday too, and had to ride the bike under the same state to office and back.. (almost 30 kms). Now, during this period, the bike started to vibrate a lot and felt like stressing out with a pillion on. On 90+ speeds it felt as if the bike would tear apart if revved further.

On Tuesday, I took the bike back to the SVC the first thing, where the mechanic increased the idle RPM to 1400, looked for the engine oil (it was change at the last service, almost 2200 kms ago). He drained out the engine oil, measured it to find that it was almost 300 ml short of the capacity. He added some more oil to the existing one and filled it back to the engine. The mechanic took it for a test ride after that and said, its fine now. When I rode it, I still felt the same tick tick noise and sluggishness and questioned the mechanic about it. The mechanic just refused to acknowledge the issue at all and said that all the noise is pretty normal in these bikes and the vibrations would go off when the engine oil is changed at the next service (which is due in another 800 kms)..

I'm really sad and confused on what to do next.. I am planning to visit the factory svc at malad, which is closer to my office but I'm not sure if I'd get any help there too..

Still cant figure out why the engine oil was low, and if its okay to reuse the drained out engine oil.

Will riding the bike with this noise and so much vibrations cause some severe damage to the engine?

Should I consult some local mechanic to get some help on it.. ?
Sorry to hear that, usually tic tic sound from the engine could be due to lose tappets, not sure..

                • Thanks for your suggestions guys..

I went up to the Yamaha Factory Shop SVC at malad and explained the problem to the mechanic there..

He took the bike for a ride and came back saying, there is no issue with the engine as such and replacing the engine oil would smooth out the vibrations. I wasn't convinced completely and asked him about the sluggish performance issue too. The mechanic said, that there is some problem with the front brakes and its jamming the front wheel a little bit. He also pointed out that the chain is also slacking a little bit that might be the cause of the noise.

He asked me which engine oil to put and gave the choices between Rs.250 and Rs.450 .. I asked him for the difference and he said 450 one is the semi synthetic but if I had been using 250 one earlier, I should go ahead with it.. I wasn't sure about it, however chose 450..

Got the bike in the evening, by that time the SVC was closing and all the mechanics were either gone or were winding up, I didnt get a chance to speak with the guy who serviced my bike, but the job card read, change engine oil , change cylinder kit master and labor charges. The total bill was Rs. 775 including 150 for labor charges.

The bike, however, is running smoothest it has ever been. It actually took me some time to adjust to the new found smoothness . The vibrations are almost gone too. Sadly, the tick tick sound still exists but isn't as prominent (or may be I've just got used to it). The sluggishness is also not there anymore, but I'll still have to try it with a pillion to feel the difference. The pick-up has got reduced a little bit though..

So, overall, its much better than what it was 2 days back.. but I'm still not completely satisfied.. Its due for a service in about a week from now (another 500kms) lets see, if that improves the pending issues..

P220's projectors are for Halogen. Its a wise idea to have a halogen projector for high beam too.maybe be you can use a HID Bi-xen projector for HIGH and LOW in city and have a separate switch for your halogen projector which can be switched on when on highways.so on highway you will have both hid and halo projectors switched on with HI and LOW options and no need to worry abt battery. this can be done with 2 HID Proj. too.

BTW i can mostly source you HELLA Halogen BIXEN Proj.

                    Cheers
Sorry for a late response buddy.. I was away for a while and lost track of the conversation.

So, you approve the arrangement with 2 bi-Xenons and 2 halogen projectors . Now, I've got a few more questions on the same..

                    • What in your opinion should be the costing for this setup?
                    • Would the 2 projectors fit into the current headlight reflector block?
                    • Would it need some kind of modifications in the electricals' side too?
                    • Will the stock battery be able to take up the load?

No mate, what i meant is you can have a HID-Proj. on the LOW beam side and a HALOGEN Proj. on the HIGH beam side.
So that means 1 HID proj and 1 HID halo.

With this set up you can flash at night without any probs.
I can source you projectors(both Chinese and OEM).
You wouldn't any major electrical mods...and IF you are using the set up as i said...batt. drain wont be an issue.

I wouldn't call this as an "issue". It happens with almost all 150cc (and higher capacity) bikes.

It's quite normal. Don't worry, your bike is healthy
