        • I gave my bike for the second service. There was no FS(10W30) oil with them. so putting the mineral version rite now. As our bikes service/oil change period is 6K does the mineral oil last upto this period?
Some saying we can use 20W40 grade too. Is that ok? coz i can't find any 10W30 grade FS oil in my home town. but there 20W40 version available. Can we use it???

          • @Binoy - I use 20W40 for over 10.5K kms & will continue using the same for our hot weather (will refrain from 10W-30, unless I'm in some place like Delhi during Winter).

Now that, this discussion of 10W-30 for SS & Mineral has come up, I'm not sure if the one I'm using is FS or mineral. I hopefully think the one I use is mineral for Rs 500 odd for 1.5 lts.

BTW, the max I've checked is for over 3-4K kms & did a forcible change during which I observed the color of the oil was still...RED!!!

            Edit - DK...ROFL!!!

Thanks @aargee i have used 10W40(FS) for the 1st service and 10W30(Mineral) for the 2nd service and when i change the grade to 20W40 does it effect the engine? Are you using the 20W40 from 1st service onwards?

Affect? In what way? I'd a bitter experience to have shifted to FS (Motul 7100; IIRC, 15W-50) & it happened exactly on the day before I could start my trip to RJ. The previous day I remember to have topped up near to full, but when I checked the next day after about 90 Kms ride, the oil level was way below. With PSR Ji's guidance, I switched back to 20W-40 & things became normal. I'm pretty sure, the oil didn't leak, but only forcing myself to believe that the oil evaporated ; so much to have gone for FS, wasted about Rs 800!!!

10W50. don't do that, even which i used it once on my FZ16 there was considerable oil leak, so i switched back to xxW40.

Binoy...something's going wrong today; first it was 10W40, now 10W50 instead of 15W50

Tell me, why shouldn't I use 15W50? Almost all FS have 35-40 degree of variance from Winter to Summer; there was also 5W40 & 15W-40 was closest for me to pick. Anyway, no more FS with me.

last time in my karizma r i have puted castrol oil that my dad bought for scorpio
after that my bike started giving pullution too much so changed it back to the original one that hh gives.

after being on xbhp i have learned so much things and now they always help me.
dont want to do that think againg in my cbr.

now i only use 10W30 that honda provides.

                          • I had been using honda's recommended throttle 10w30 FS from start (1st oil change @1k kms and again used the same grade) until day before yesterday. Last few days i felt the smoothness had gone after about 3.5k kms and so decided to change the oil. My bike had clocked 4.5k kms and was closer to second service when they will again change the oil so i gave a tought to try a normal 20w40 mineral till then (atleast for 1k kms). I used veedol 20w40 (i know its cheap but i intended to use it )
After this oil change, the engine did feel smoother than previous but not as when a newly replaced 10w30 FS (obviously ) but i have started to notice vibrations in footpegs, lower part of the fuel tank, slightly in the handlebars and in the RVMs. Dont know if the oil change is the culprit but none of these existed before the oil change.
Would be away from spirited biking for atleast a month because of my new car and its run-in so would use the bike as it is until next month when i will give it for the second service.
I had requested the ASC for cone set replacement as the handlebars have become too stiff but they said they received only two plates out of four required for the coneset (the metal disc--dont know what its called) and offered me to greese it and give me as done for their all other customers. But i denied and demanded a replacement. Now lets see when they receive proper parts.
Note : After 3.5k kms on the honda throttle 10w30 FS (FS as claimed by Honda) , the oil level was still about the same.

I dont know about others but I quite like the idea of all RED. Will check with my dealer and see if they have the exact red of the bike
