  • Page 201 of Ninja workshop manual says -

Do not touch the radiator core. This could damage the radiator fins, resulting in loss of cooling efficiency.

Page 202 of the same manual says -

    1. Check the radiator core.
    2. If there are obstructions to air flow, remove them.
    3. If the corrugated fins [A] are deformed, carefully straighten them.
    4. If the air passages of the radiator core are blocked more than 20% by unremovable obstructions or irreparably deformed fins, replace the radiator with a new one.

I believe same would be the case with CBR. Why don't someone get hold of workshop manual for CBR and reconfirm?

ps. The words in italics are copied from manual and not my invention.

Yes I agree but obstructions to air flow here means mud or for that matter anything which covers the radiator not letting the air to flow over it.
Concerning the deformation of fins, the deformation due to water pressure while washing is low. Deformation in the case of for example a stone of considerable mass hitting the radiator fins while riding will definitely cause a drop in the efficiency and therefore the fins will need to be straightened out.

If I were one of you who is so much concerned with this thing then the first thing I would have done is to buy the radiator protector cover.

Thanks for your guidance. Did you by any chance read the content of page 201?

Can you please guide us poor souls to a proper radiator protection cover which would stop mud from getting on radiator?

          Hello again

I dont know if your above comment was sarcastic (pulling my leg as you refer yourself as poor soul), but taking it as a serious comment here is what i found out at ebay.de in germany as I reside here.
eBay: Neue und gebrauchte Elektronikartikel, Autos, Kleidung, Sammlerst?cke, Sportartikel und mehr ? alles zu g?nstigen Preisen

It seems to be of good quality and will offer good protection.
If this issue had been raised a few days before, I would have bought it for you people as I am coming back to india permanently on 5th of october.

P.S. I have not read page 201 as I do not own a bike(as of now) or ninja for that matter.

Please read the portion in Bold. I had specifically asked about a protection cover which would stop mud. The link you have posted is for debris and not for mud. Mud is the main reason why radiator needs to be cleaned (at least in India).

                Absolutely true
I will say using the radiator protector cover it is impossible to keep the radiator free of mud. But this is the closest you can get to protect the radiator.

The other logical option is to put a mud flap for the front mud guard which i think everybody does in rainy season.

Even you can observe now a few bent fins is equivalent to putting the cover as it also obstructs the air to a very small extent but then thats what I said earlier these loses are negligible.

Then let me talk of experience!!!
There's a small (again 2%) of mud that was covered on my radiator from Udaipur & I kept ignoring; all way from Jaisalmer towards Jaipur, I was unable to bear the heat & the fan kept running every now & then. I could literally feel the heat on my thighs that penetrated through...

                  - Riding pant (mesh material)
                  - Wrangler jeans
All the while I kept thinking it was due to some issue with coolant or weather or until I looked into the radiator. Just a small portion, less than the size of my palm or may be half the size of a touch screen mobile phone is what the mud is covered.

JD666 was at Jaipur & he & his relatives were at Honda ASC & they taught those people on how to wash the radiator & guess what, that was the last & final time I witnessed so much heat.

                    That's interesting. One Question.
How big is the radiator?? Why I asked because mud covering area equivalent to size of palm for a Large Radiator shouldn't be a problem, I guess.

Sorry for the delay, but in the Bangalore meet, I asked around, they said a meet in Chennai is certainly on the cards. They did not have any idea about meets in other parts of the country.

More information about the meet soon.

                          • not sure if it was discussed here or not, but a HMSI official during the bangalore meet did tell us that they're planning a track day in chennai & asked us to give details to them if we were interested to participate in the same. SInce the time frame was pretty less for me to arrange leaves for myself..missed out the opportunity...

Please go back a few pages and check. I have already posted regarding this. I think the race is strictly by invite. My dealer told me that the race was in between 30 cbr's invited from all over tamilnadu.

                              • Bangalore CBR owners meet, 24th Sep 2011

                                Guys,

Some details about the meet in Bangalore:

It was supposedly from 10am to 6pm, I was there from 12 to about 330.

Missed the cheer girls, but from what I heard, they were kids and were probably paid in candies to be there.

Took part in one of the skill events, where you had to go around cones without putting your foot down in the fastest time. I managed a time of about 23 seconds, but some dude beat me with 18 seconds! I was told I had the 2nd best time. Dunno what the prize was though.

Most bikes were stock, some had a few mods but to my disappointment, no exhaust mods
Red CBRs were the maximum. Silver was the least.
However, there was one particular bike which was realllllly pathetic. We called it the Bling bike. I wish Honda would just take back the bike and ban the owner from ever purchasing one. It reminded me of how girls would dress up their kid cousins with frocks and lipstick. Pathetic.

There was one guy doing some stunts, at first with no gear on. I think someone forced him to put on a helmet. I felt it was a little amateurish, and risky cos he had no other gear on. I don't want put up a picture of that for fear that someone might consider it "cool".

Asked about which other places meets are planned, they said Chennai is on the cards, but not sure about other places.

Parts: Some parts have arrived. Carbon fiber lookalike parts for all the light silver parts(it's the color common to all the 3 bike versions) are there. I saw them in JP Nagar Honda. Here's a sample:

I asked about tinted windshields, they asked me to contact them on the Monday, but I haven't yet found time to call them. Will keep you guys updated on that.

They also said that they'd be mailing us CBR member cards, I'm not really sure what the purpose is.

Even though my dealer had called me and told that they've mailed me the invite, I did not receive it. I rode to a nearby dealer and picked up an invite. If you didn't receive an invite/call, I think you can still just ride to a nearby dealer and take one, once you prove that you are a CBR owner.

Hope I haven't missed out any points.
