I learned this lesson from my friend who owns a P220 for the past two years.. Its a black beauty.. Still looks neat and fine..! Thanks...So how do u maintain?? I know we should not wipe with a dry cloth as it will cause micro scratches which later results in bad color.....You wash it with water weekly??? Do u use any wax??? (Polish is not good as it removes paint) and washing with water weekly.... Doesn't it make the bike Rust???

              Thanks again,waiting for your advice

lol. so if engine braking puts pressure on engine does it mean that accelerating will not put pressure on the engine? What do you think engine braking actually is? i would like to know. do not be confused with word "braking" there.

and about the highlighted part, when do you usually use this technique? there are various situations where the Braking can differ. panic braking, normal conditions where you dont have to apply too much brakes, wet conditions, muddy roads where chances are that you might skid, sometimes you will have to brake while turning. etc etc.

I hardly use the Rear one (10% of the time) and mostly Front one.
R15 has larger disc on the Front one, so it's always advisable to use the Front one for better braking.
+1 but i doubt if its something thats got to do with large or small discs.

Hence, it is the front which has to provide the most of the stopping power. Thats why all SBKs have dual discs in the front and a single disc at the rear.

I myself seldomly use rear brakes. Till now over almost 17k kms, I have changed my front brake pads once at around 10k kms and will need another replacement in 2 - 3k kms, whereas my stock rear disk pads are still going good.
+1 and thats why many bikes have front discs who dont have rear discs.

Since i brake with same ratios, the things which i have gone through are
                front tyre life increases.
it always helped me while instant braking.
i never meat with accident due to braking issue or front tyre lock as been known for riding skills from the age of 8

U can ask yourself, that how many times u have been gone through front Tyre skid while instant braking.
AT the End "what ever logic u use, your tyre should not skid while braking"
that is the skill of rider.
                Ride Safe
usually i have seen the rear tyre's life little shorter then the front for obvious reasons. i dont know what you mean by "front tyre life increases", because actually the life of rear tyre shortens which makes you feel that front tyre life is increased.
tyre skidding is something thats gonna depend on the amount of brake you apply and also the surface. the "CONDITIONS" play a big role in the braking and also accelerating part. yes the SKILL is the most important thing but you get it only when you go through it. SKILL is nothing but knowledge and quickness in thinking.

I am asking this coz I travel 30kms daily roundtrip. This route has about 20kms of express highway ride. I do about 65 to 70kmph on 6th gear at 4krpm. So when the speed drops to 52 to 55 kmph I change to 5th gear. This is where the engine braking seems much pronounced than speeds below this. I avoid sudden braking though.

Rather than keeping the bike in 6th gear all through the 20kms stretch, I vary the speeds by changing between 5th and 6th gears. Cant go back to 4th coz other cars and bikes are fast enough on this route. I guess this wont be a problem for my engine. Expert opinions are welcomed on this.

They have just mentioned to vary speeds from time to time. I think it also implies that it doesnt matter if the bike is ridden in one constant gear.

Anyways this was my last doubt about break-in period. Wont bother much from now on

i ask you the same question what i asked manpreet. what according to you is engine braking. i dont think it will harm the engine. dont worry about the 6th gear, AFAIK its there for maintaining the bike speed 120kmph+ speeds. dont be tensed about it the engine braking is just the part of the brake you put. it will just aid a little bit.

Whenever i had to panic brake(When animals pedestrians suddenly run into the highway) from 100Kmph i used to apply the front one with equal gaps substantially and then go on with the rear one! I thought it was a bad practice..! Since from my childhood i was taught "USE BOTH THE BRAKES SON".. now happy to hear an expert advice that its the way to do
you can continue with more of front and less of rear. but do keep in mind about the conditions and situations. it takes loads of practice to get it right, even the best can do mistakes, we are just the beginners

Nah!! Complete washing frequently is a bad practice (atleast frm my point of view). I Use two very soft cotton cloths(perhaps an expensive one ..) . Would make The first one wet to an extent at one end.. rub off the places with dirt(especially the rims).. And then use the clean cloth to finish up..! Nothing more.. Complete washing was done only once..

The first thing that comes to my mind when i see these words(ENGING BRAKING) is suddenly shift down from high speeds.. .. I guess what that 20% meant was to shift down while braking on par with the speed right? correct me if i m wrong..

yes when you lower the gear, there is resistance from the engine when you dont cling on to the clutch. so its nothing but the engine is reducing the bikes speed. you can use this for little assistance while you brake, but during panic braking i dont see engine braking aiding anything since there is hardly any time for it to assist. so its just the part of the normal braking. when i say 60% front and 40% rear then i am talking about sudden braking {just a example}.
one more thing i want to add is that you have to hace very good balance on the bike while panic braking, orelse you will end up on the road.

Wash it when u feel like its dirty or dusty, never ever dry wipe your bike with a dry cloth. I am using Formula1 wash and wax Rs. 550, first wash rinse the bike with water, then using as needed car shampoo (stay away from harsh shampoos or washing powders like Nirma) mix the shampoo with water, wash with a good clean cotton cloth, best bet is to use a old Turkish towel, rinse to remove shampoo make sure you donot leave foam residues, I use chamois cloth Rs.590 (best thing i bought for automobile care) cloth to wipe the bike after washing, I have some pics of my bike in the earlier posts, it still looks the same or I might be imagining, better than when it was in showroom! Might be a ill exaggerating here, though you don't need to polish every time you wash, once a month carnauba wax polish Rs.450 which I use is sufficient if you have a good shampoo to wash. regarding the plastic parts, my previous experience maintaining both cars and bikes using Waxpol which is vinyl polish also gives good shine though attracts a lot of dust, also makes it look dull if not used frequently. There are many products available in the market though I have been using formula1 products for my cars and bike from I think past 10 years, how these products last depends on your usage but I have couple of other vehicles too of which seldom anyone can guess how old they are! I will soon try some other high end products and post review. But If I am correct xbhp is shutting down on 12th this month :-(

But touched 153 Kmph on speedo yesterday on NH4.
I know that's not the true speed, but hell, watching that on the speedo was orgasmic.

                            • My short ride on the NH 4.

I rode on the NH4 a week or two ago and I have to warn people taking it to Pune et all;please watch out for diversions(there were too many of them;and I managed to go about 110 kilometers into NH4) and after you are diverted from the highway to the outer roads, you'll encounter stupid-ass road humps on them!
Since the diversions are easy to spot and the corners are open you'll enter too hot and just when you think you're safe.......BAM! you'll spot a hump preceded by a gravel track(so you wont be able to brake hard and then you're sent flying!)
