Check out Shell Advance 10w30 - its the best oil u can get. Will cost u arnd 300-325/-. Its expensive u'll experience the difference within first few kms. I used it with my CD Deluxe, engine response becomes quite punchy.

i use the motul 10w40 7100. Its FS and costs about 800 buck. works very well for long rides. Its lasts around 4000-5000kms
Ive also used the honda 10w30 FS thats also good but engine used to heat up on long rides else its very good for city riding. This lasts around 2000kms max 2500kms

Its 475 kms on ODO ... and the ASC is 25 kms exact from my place.

Tomo going for 1st service.

Regarding oil. wat i thought was il go with honda 10 w 30 1st ...(as @ajcletus500 it wil last for 2000 kms which is wat i require til my 2nd service)

On 2nd service il change to Motul for another 2000 kms til 3rd service

On 3rd service il stick to Shell Advance as recommended by @burnoutdee (or if i find Motul upto the mark then surely wil stick to it.) {which ever is better}....

Wat do u guys say????

hi impulsers,

Its been a while since i made a post about the mod (carry bag hook) on my bike

Here i would like to post about the next mod which i have done on bike,

1. Mobile Charging socket: Name is "tusk 12 V power socket". Bought it for 7.6 $(dollars) from eBay.com, inclusive of shipping. Direct fitment, connected to ignition by electrician.
This one i was using in my bullet for more than a year, very useful in my ladhak trip last year. I bought a new one and fixed in my bullet and installed the old one from my bullet to this impulse.
I have a belkin cigarette socket charger for mobile, so just use the usb cable to connect to mobile to the socket.

I had a tank bag on my bullet to keep the mobile during charging time, for impulse, i have bought a mobile holder which is mounted on handle bar next to the socket.

2. Mobile holder for bike: product name "Universal Motorcycle Water Resistant Bag + Holder Set for 4.3"~5" GPS / Cell Phone - Black" bought from dx.com for 15.7$ inclusive of shipping to chennai. This is used to keep the mobile connected to the handlebar, very useful to use the mobile as a GPS device.
Very useful, but the problem i face now is the mobile heats up very good when inside the cover, since the cover is water proof, air circulation is restricted, so need to do some thing like holes for air circulation.

3. Head Light: While connecting this charger socket, my electrician suggest to connect 55/60W bulb as a head light, so he added one coil in the connection inorder to supply high current and to avoid flickering of bulb during idling. Now the headlight beam throw is brighter and clear vision for night ride. Perfect.

4. Double Horn: Connected a Relay and an additional horn for our traffic and deafs roaming in the city.

5. "Green flickering LED" on the tank scoop: Just for fancy with a switch.

6. Green Rim Stripe for attraction which u can see in the last pic

Good work buddy, Thanks for sharing it with us.I nearly fell off the bed laughing after reading ur line "deafs roaming in the city" so true that is.

I have also added the same setup as urs but I got the mobile charger of reputed auto component maker - Roots & I did not get any switch installed for it,
its connected with ignition. Ignition ON, Charging ON...I also confirmed with mechanic, it wont use the battery unless mobile is connected.

Also I installed the mobile holder on mirror bottom, as there's enough space for mobile holder's clasp & visibility is better/unclogged. This mobile holder is tried & tested, I completed my journey to & fro from Mumbai to Daman using my phone as GPS, riding bike at 100KMPH. No shake ups or issues at all.

I am planning to install a brighter headlamp but still I have not come across a single impressive headlamp or any mechanic who can suggest better.

I didnt know that your bike was new. Use the hero oil till about 4000 or 5000 kms then switch to honda or motul full synthetic.
Im not sure of the reason but my mechanic told to use the hero mineral oil till a minimum of 4000kms atleast

that knuckle guard was bought for impulse along with the mobile holder, but there isn't enough space on handle bar to mount it. So i had no other go but to use it in my thunderbird.

Hi guys

I am new to xBHP and hope this is the right thread for my query. I bought a Blue impulse two months back. Here are my initial thoughts about this bike. I was riding a pulsar 150dtsi prior to this bike.
1. I love the riding position and overall comfort on the bike. Potholes and speedbumps arent a big issue anymore.
2. I feel the bike could have definitely done with some more power. I have heard this engine is the same as the Unicorn.
3. I hate the gearbox, reminds me of a CT100..dunno why, is there any fix to this? I a getting a speed of 52kmph at 4k rpm on 5th gear. Is that normal?
4. I plan to put K&N air filter (can someone help me with a model), i heard there is some issue in fixing the K&N on this bike, can anyone confirm this?
5. I plan to install NGK iridium spark plugs and the spark plug cable too. is that going to be beneficial?
6. Are there any other mods that can increase the performance of this bike a bit. I am looking for some boost in the midrange.

On a side note, i think the Hero service is average at best. When they returned the bike, they had not fixed the battery cover properly and recently i noticed another small screw that was not put properly. Shame on them for this. I am looking forward to discussions on this site.

• Thoughts and help regarding Hero Impulse

Hey guys!

After going through this forum I decided to join.. yay!! haha.. So i got a new bike a couple of months back, a blue impulse. i am done with 1500kms and I absolutely love the bike overall but have a few concerns which i hope can be fixed with a few small mods / tweaks
1. Mid Range- I think they should have tuned this bike with a little more midrange. It lacks a little bit of juice. I do plan to put in a K&N Filter. Can someone help me with a model number? i know rejetting the carb is required but I do not want to get it done by some random mechanic. Does anyone know a good and reputed mech in Chennai?

2. Iridium Spark Plug - I want to get the NGK iridium spark plug as I learnt that the stock NGKs on this bike aren't iridium. How much will this affect performance/reliability and how does changing the spark plug cable along with it help??

3. Rear Brake - The rear brake is really stupid. They have fitted the smallest available drum (well maybe a bit of exaggeration there) which makes no sense to me . I understand why they didn't want to put a disc on an off road vehicle but why couldn't they just put a bigger drum?? If i do choose to upgrade to bigger drum or disc, what are the complications and how much would it cost?

4. Headlight - The obvious.. weak (really weak) headlights.. i want to get better headlights but not something thats going to attract attention from the cops.

5. Engine Oil - is the recommended engine oil the best??if not, which one improves performance without compromising on efficiency?

I am no expert on bikes and my questions might seem naive, please help me out!!

Cheers!

Welcome sidhubudhu,

You have made a right decision by getting this bike, to make the experience of Impulse even more enjoyable please dont compare Impulse with Pulsar neck to neck.(I know u have done that yet but comparison is inevitable). I also wanted the blue Impulse but it was not in stock at Autolink, Borivali so I got the black one.

1. Riding position is definitely the best in any class of bikes available in India, very comfortable & it inspires to ride even more. I rode 400Kms in a single day n yet had the energy to hangout with friends at night.

2. You are right the engine is same as Unicorn with a bit of tuning done to match Impulse's personality.

3. It took me almost a month to get used to gearbox n I still struggle to put it in neutral from 1st gear. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about it.

4. I advise you against putting any filter or new exhaust system on ur bike; after-market filters will suck in lot more air than stock filters which will require richer fuel intake hence
performance will increase a bit, sound will also be much better but at the cost of fuel economy and at the risk of welfare of engine because more the air, more the particles end up being sucked into engine which will corroborate the piston in long run.

5. I have installed the NGK Iridium plug too, its superb; much better than the stock. The cable cannot be installed because the stock cable is integrated in coil so they will cut it n then join the new cable which will defeat the purpose of adding the low resistance cable as it will still get the power from coil through stock cable. Its upto u if u would like that to be done on ur bike; but I did not install the cable.

6. So far I have not come across any performance mod for this bike...its a forgotten child of HERO, they have already discontinued the bike. Its upto us now to go thru the trial n error process on our beloved bikes.

Enhancing the performance will not help that much as its already decently performing bike; I took it for couple of long rides exceeding 350Kms continuous drive, went for total off-roading too once - it never tires or make u feel tired. Just maintain the bike good, lube the chain with 90w gear oil instead of chain lubricants, make sure to idle the engine every morning for 1 minute at least. Do not fall for so called performance enhancing mods or tricks as this will hurt ur bike in long run.

Ride safe, ride responsibly!

Regards.

What quality u r referring to bro? They just waste our time, money n machine. I always stand on their head when they are working on my bike, yet they manage to miss out on one or the other thing n I have to kick their rears to make them complete the job properly...I am speaking out of experience - its not easy to be allowed in their workshop but trust me u have to make them realize that if they screw up ur bike then u r not going to spare them. Never accept the sub-standard service, calmly speak to the head of service center or ask for area manager. It will help!

Major goof-up they do esp. with Impulse is to change the oil while bike is parked on side-stand. Since the bike stand almost upright they feel its ok to do that, make sure they park it on paddock stand before changing the oil.

Due to their inefficiency at their job, I learnt to work on Air-Fuel Ratio, maintaining the chain and other tidbits of my bike, I made fuel economy testing kit, paddock stand too.

You can share ur difficulties here (if any) we all help each other here.

Regards.
