  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

Guys, please shed some light here.
During the service, the mechanic broke the Air FIlter Cap by tightening the screw. PFA
The mechanic said that its not a big issue. Am I suppose to change it or just leave it?
Since I have a proof, I can ask them to change it for free. If you think its not really a big Isuue, I will ignore it.

It doesn't seem too big to be worried about. Can be left as it is.

        Heyy guys,
I wanted to know what is the life expectancy of the chain and chain sprockets of Duke 200 and also the tyres.
My bike has done a bit more than 16,000 km and one of my friend suggested to change all of these. I do feel a bit less confident on wet roads but I am planning to change the tyres in june. So is it advisable to change them ASAP or can I wait till then. And also what about the chain and chain sprockets too.
        Thank You..
I wud prefer to drive on the road to hell.. rather than flying to heaven...

          Hi,
I had the same issue and i guess many have the issue. The issue is worsen if you have kept the rear mud guard. If you remove the mud guard, the sound is not there.

The work around for this problem is attaching a stainless steel support inside of the tailtidy which will make the part less prone to vibrating and hitting the rear mud guard.

I have removed the mud guard, so its the tail that's making all the sound. I have also seen this pic some time ago, but i can't seem to find where i should get it done and don't think i would be able to do it myself.
            Thanks

I did a 3300 km trip with my friend on a bullet. We did Mumbai-Bangalore-Kodaikanal-Munnar-Mahe-Udupi-Gokarna-Goa-Mumbai (whew!!) trip.
Except for coolant running a little low, which was topped up for free in Calicut, no problems!

No problem at all. If you're paranoid then buy a pack of Fevi bond, remove the front seat to access the air filter cover, remove the cover and apply some amount of fevi bond near the screw. Leave it for 30mins and you're good to go.

This can be done with a glue gun too.

Sorry for the long post. I couldn't resist my frustration.
Sharing my experience @ Adayar service center, Chennai.
Recently I have moved to Chennai(temporarily) and unfortunately, my 1st paid service was on the cards. With no other go, I visited a service center near to my place(I think that's the only one available in the entire city). Its KTM Adayar Service center.
I visited the place a couple of days before and asked for appointment. They replied as first come first serve. So I went by 8:15 and my bike was second. The guy came and noted down the details(with half brain coz lack of comm). I parked and told them that I will be supervising my bike(as i do always).
What I observed was, even the bikers have failed to get their bikes service on time with few kms or days, they are not even considering it and moving them to the paid service. Poor guys. they had no other option other than shutting their mouth and Nodding their head for what ever the bull shit they say(lack of knowledge on handling the things, other than riding the bike).
Almost 10 other bikes came after me and were in the queue.
The first bike was taken and after that they started to move the bikes which came after me and are convenient to move! :O
I questioned them in a harsh way and then they came up with a lame excuse of EXPRESS Service. :O WTF!!!
They hesitated to remove the Belly pan and Sprocket cap, but I was very stubborn on that. So they didn't have any other go than removing it.
The bike was washed for name sake and moved onto the ramp.
Its a general service. So no big work to do. But the mechanic broke the Air filter cap as a part of his job(I have posted in earlier posts). I asked him to use the chain cleaner, instead he said, we have already cleaned the chain with kerosene. :O WTF!
I just wanted to be out of that place. They have no proper tools, no products to satisfy the purpose.
Kasturba and Mekhri Circle rockz in both addressing the issues and taking care of our bikes and send them with a satisfaction and a big smile on everyones face.
Badly missing. Will come to B'lore ASAP.
                    KTM Lover,

                    Zak

AFAIK kerosene is enough to clean the chain routinely. Use it once a month. Haven't tried chain cleaner as such yet..

The leak was not an overflow from top and then around the tank but was from the bottom of the tank, where there are a few screws and the seepage was from there. The petrol mixed with the rust(in the screws) and became quite sticky by the time it dripped down on the trellis/exhaust.
So this must have been a case of regular wear and tear given the fact that the tank is plastic and metal screws will always eat the plastic threads with time(has happened with my helmet too) , faster than a metallic thread.
Apart from this I have had 2 major leaks, both because of ineptitude of the svc.
First instance was when the fuel filter was changed as part of regular service. The mechanic had managed to tear the rubber hose carrying fuel from the tank to the filter with his plier . I had fuel literally dripping on the engine head/trellis/my shoes. I had done the servicing in the morning and was on my way to ofc when I noticed this on the Powai flyover. had to run to Shreeram Bajaj to change the hoses. This was on a very hot summer day
The second instance was recently, ironically when the tank was replaced , mentioned above for the tank leakage issue.
The mechanic again hadn't tightened the steel clamps on the hoses properly and fuel was leaking. I did a tankful and a substantial amount just leaked out when I pressed the starter.
Actually that's why I don't bother taking the bike for minor niggles to the svc like I used to before. I just thank my Gods for the engine never requiring any fixes, touchwood or else who knows that might lead to may be more leaks/seepages or whatever after the 'fix'
I've had similar bad experiences at Shreeram Bajaj, Ghatkopar. Really poor quality of work and supervision. After the 1 service that I got done, I haven't gone back there.
Can you tell me which mech was responsible for your misfortune(s)??
