    This is a long post.

I meant all bikes even Honda CBRs and say Dream Neo. Fumes always escape from the fuel tank cap area (resulting in the smell). Look, I am not ruling out the possibility of a leak in any case (which should be checked thoroughly because of high danger associated with it, but, all bikes have fumes coming out of the fuel tank area. As a matter of fact there is going to be a regulation to check the evaporation of these fumes in the next Bharat Stage Certification (or maybe the one after that) to limit the amount of fumes. I am sorry i can't really post references to these claims but if you know anyone related from the industry you could ask them. Besides, i have only smelt excessive fuel fumes in case of hot days or long periods of parking in the sun (not that i was actually trying to smell fumes so cant really say how it is on average).

Besides, there might be chances of damaged seal (as was stated in another post) which should be fixed at the earliest. As-well, there is also a possibility of blockage of the vent which might result in collection of water in the catchment area and eventual spilling inside the tank.

    On another topic:

    A little background:
I ride an average of 50 Kms for 6 days a week mostly on not so crowded traffic. I would describe my riding to be somewhat aggressive to very wrist happy (as i presume most duke owners would be). I ride solo always and I keep my tire pressures at 25psi for the front and 28psi for the rear and check and refill almost on a fortnight basis. I check my mileage figures on tankful to tankful method

    The Issue:
I have gotten used to getting an average of around 30 - 33 kmpl from my bike, which means a tankful (8-8.5L) every 5-6 days.
Today however when i refilled my tank i noticed that this time around i got a figure of just over 40kmpl (Almost 30% increase). I also checked my tire pressure which i had a feeling was low (due to lower top speed I could do last night on an empty stretch of road). Tire pressure was down to 11psi for the rear and 21psi for the front.
Maybe i have a slow puncture that i need to fix, but what caught my attention was how did i manage 30% higher fuel economy on half 60% lower tire pressure.
I thought about my riding last week but there had been no drastic change ( maybe a little less wrist happy but cant really say). Then another instance came to my mind about the last time i had gotten a peak in my FE values (38kmpl if i recall correctly) at that time i had a lower tire pressure of 17psi on my rear.

    Now this is confusing.
Lower tire pressure should mean better traction, lower FE, lower top speed. I am a little surprised by the increase in FE.
I am looking forward to the next time i get a sudden peak in my FE I will surely check my tire pressure.
Anybody else ever had any such experience or is it just in my mind and this was all just a coincidence. Need more data to actually come to any conclusion.
Anybody got any other insight into this or maybe an explanation as to what is actually happening.

Regarding the petrol smell on bikes, I went down to our apartment parking lot and did an inspection on all the bikes parked, three Enfields, a CBR 250, an R15, two FZs, and various other bikes, and all of them smelled petrol around the tank cap. The temperature here in Hyderabad is around 38 degrees now. And I never had a spill issue, and I fill my tank to the brim every single time by shaking it and running the fuel pump and so on, but not a drop spilled so far. I've had other issues, like premature chain wear, blown charging coil and a head gasket oil leak, but not petrol spill. Mine's 2013 June made.

Kiirus founder was victim of a road rage yesterday btw.His tuning capabilities couldn't save his hands from being fractured.
Some guys in an SUV beat him up ostensibly because he objected it constantly blaring the horn even before the signal turned green!! pathetic really, I witness it on a daily basis, this impatience of drivers at signals, as if they are Warren Buffet and 3-4 seconds mean millions of dollars

          Hello Guys,

I am ready to go for the kill, but before that, I have one small query...I was planning to get the bike on Saturday, by cashing a self cheque, but the KTM guys billing section is closed on Saturday, and my cheque-book is couriered to me which I left at home and there is no chance of it being delivered before tomorrow evening.

But there is an alternate option suggested by the dealer that I transfer the whole amount by RTGS in the dealer's account. Now my concern is that is it advisable to pay the dealer before even seeing the bike?

I have not made a vehicle purchase till now, so this question has been biting me since morning.

Or should I wait till Monday and inspect the bike myself and then handover the cash? Help would be appreciated.

          Thanks

I think you should wait till Monday. But if your are in too much a hurry(I was), then an RTGS won't hurt too. I don't think the dealer allots a particular bike to you after payment and you can choose your duke from the entire inventory. Do ask him if indeed this is the case if you decide with RTGS.IT was so in my case

I called him...probably he has one orange only which is 2014 made which was my condition that I will buy only 2014....I asked him that before billing I would need to take a look at the bike to see if it is in good condition, to which he said they will bill only after my satisfaction. I hope he is not saying so for saying purposes only, but waiting will probably kill me now

                Hey guys
Are the newer batch of Duke 200 facing any problems such as engine seizure and stuff? ?
Need to advice about the bike to my cousin and we live about 200kms from the nearest service centre.

Bought it from KTM Noida, the showroom is in Sec-18 where they park the bike, and they bill it in their Bajaj showroom at Sec-15...rode the bike from KTM showroom to Bajaj before making payement (2 Kms).

While inspecting bike in KTM showroom only, there was a case where headlights did not power on, so they told me not to worry, there will be a PDI by their engineer, which did not happen... The bike was given to me as is. But luckily the issue did not come up again.

All in all the buying experience was Okish.....the only thing I missed is the paint chipped off a little bit at the end of one of the grab rails, which I saw after payement. Their guy told me to paint it with black paint.

The bike has vibrations in left footpeg (they are also there in right but in comparison, they are minimal), also vibrations in handle bar...though they give the raw feel of power, but are these vibrations normal in a new bike?
Also, when the clutch is fully depressed, and the engine sound is lowest, there is a metallic sound of chain (not khat khat) which I guess is normal?

                  Thanks,
                  Akshay

Bajaj has officially told their dealers to keep MOTUL engine oil and other stuff for their KTM customers . So please avoid getting the Bajaj engine oil during your service and if they tell you it voids warranty and blah blah its all crap now . Here is the link to that letter :

Discover high-performance lubricants for the automotive industry in India. Motul ensures optimal machinery operation with premium oils and fluids.

Hi, I bought the Duke 200 yesterday. The dealer told me to fill in only premium petrol. I live in nungambakkam, chennai. The filling stations here, say that Speed is not available. I read through this thread that normal petrol is good enough. But will it make my warranty void? How about Shell petrol?

Congrats ibi .Don't worry about the warranty . It's written in the manual to use RON 91 grade fuel and every brand of fuel in India both normal and premium is RON 91 with few addiditives added in the premium range . If you can't find premium fuel no worries use the normal one won't make any difference and warranty will not be void I have clarified this thing officially with Bajaj .

Congrats Akshay . Yes Vibrations are there in duke and it's normal, if it gets too much , hit the service center . Yes that sound is normal . After your first service everything will be sorted out . For new bikes you might hear unusual khat khat sounds, burning like smell, few drops of coolant might land here and there initially, excess heat coming out of the radiator part , it's all normal and don't panic, just keep an eye on engine leakage around engine area and ride safe and sanely .

                          Hey,
anyone replaced their tires with something other than the MRFs? cause those are pathetic....
im thinking of putting the Metzellers, which are awesome...
but wanted reviews on the new Michelin Pilot Street Radial. The Michelins have the perfect size front tire but the rear is a 140/60 instead of the KTM stock 150/60.... i dont think that makes that much of a diff, its just 10mm, but would really like to know opnions? has anyone used them? cause they seem to have a real good rating abroad, plus alot cheaper than the metzellers

Got the first fault in my bike before completion of 24hrs...Was just looking at the bike before riding it in the morning, and noticed there was oil all over the spoiler....It was leaking from the oil filter area (as you point out above)...and I was like :|

Went straight to the service center, told them....they made the job card and said that my bike would be checked first, after the Ninja being serviced is done, but then lunch break and it was like 1.5 hrs of wait.

But once he opened the oil filter, the culprit was the filter cap ring (black rubber washer) which was defective....they took photos of it and replaced it. Now the oil filter area is oily, but not leaking...and I hope it stops.

Same thing happened to me on the third day . It's the O-ring, got it replaced and after that no problems . It's the most common new bike issue and that puts a question mark on Quality standards . Chain gets loosened very easily initially , so if you hear chain hitting the swing arm hit the svcntre .

Always warm up the bike for 3 minutes for a fresh day start if you can : ) . Enjoy the ride

Thanks bro for the advices...maybe this is the reason that the svc guys were looking at each other and saying how did this get missed in PDI....probably they check this also in PDI. They were concerned that it will be an issue for them.

OT-And I see your location as Delhi...probably we can go for a ride sometime

On another note, two guys at svc with their Dukes noticed that my Dukes rear tyre had deeper treads than theirs and I could also see it....Will upload the pic when possible.

Also 1 question...is it possible to know the color of your bike from the Chassis Number?
