This is a long post.
I meant all bikes even Honda CBRs and say Dream Neo. Fumes always escape from the fuel tank cap area (resulting in the smell). Look, I am not ruling out the possibility of a leak in any case (which should be checked thoroughly because of high danger associated with it, but, all bikes have fumes coming out of the fuel tank area. As a matter of fact there is going to be a regulation to check the evaporation of these fumes in the next Bharat Stage Certification (or maybe the one after that) to limit the amount of fumes. I am sorry i can't really post references to these claims but if you know anyone related from the industry you could ask them. Besides, i have only smelt excessive fuel fumes in case of hot days or long periods of parking in the sun (not that i was actually trying to smell fumes so cant really say how it is on average).
Besides, there might be chances of damaged seal (as was stated in another post) which should be fixed at the earliest. As-well, there is also a possibility of blockage of the vent which might result in collection of water in the catchment area and eventual spilling inside the tank.
On another topic:
A little background:
I ride an average of 50 Kms for 6 days a week mostly on not so crowded traffic. I would describe my riding to be somewhat aggressive to very wrist happy (as i presume most duke owners would be). I ride solo always and I keep my tire pressures at 25psi for the front and 28psi for the rear and check and refill almost on a fortnight basis. I check my mileage figures on tankful to tankful method
The Issue:
I have gotten used to getting an average of around 30 - 33 kmpl from my bike, which means a tankful (8-8.5L) every 5-6 days.
Today however when i refilled my tank i noticed that this time around i got a figure of just over 40kmpl (Almost 30% increase). I also checked my tire pressure which i had a feeling was low (due to lower top speed I could do last night on an empty stretch of road). Tire pressure was down to 11psi for the rear and 21psi for the front.
Maybe i have a slow puncture that i need to fix, but what caught my attention was how did i manage 30% higher fuel economy on half 60% lower tire pressure.
I thought about my riding last week but there had been no drastic change ( maybe a little less wrist happy but cant really say). Then another instance came to my mind about the last time i had gotten a peak in my FE values (38kmpl if i recall correctly) at that time i had a lower tire pressure of 17psi on my rear.
Now this is confusing.
Lower tire pressure should mean better traction, lower FE, lower top speed. I am a little surprised by the increase in FE.
I am looking forward to the next time i get a sudden peak in my FE I will surely check my tire pressure.
Anybody else ever had any such experience or is it just in my mind and this was all just a coincidence. Need more data to actually come to any conclusion.
Anybody got any other insight into this or maybe an explanation as to what is actually happening.
