Re: KTM 200 Duke
It's not about being paranoid.. looking at the way he/his bike was treated at the svc, he should have mentioned it on the service slip while signing it and taken a pic and sent it to Ktm/bajaj. If we are like 'chalta hai' then, only we are to blame for not demanding a proper level of service experience and why should one take the crap when you are paying for a service.Originally posted by Evander_F View PostNo problem at all. If you're paranoid then buy a pack of Fevi bond, remove the front seat to access the air filter cover, remove the cover and apply some amount of fevi bond near the screw. Leave it for 30mins and you're good to go.
This can be done with a glue gun too.

Sorry Akshay, pics aren't visible. The cost of each crash guard is around 150 bucks or so... depending on the extent of the bend on the guard you may decide whether to replace them or to remove the bend of the guard alone. My case the right side crash guard was bent and it wasn't replaced, guys at svc removed the bend and it looks good enoughOriginally posted by Akshay Sabnis View PostSorry for bad quality pics Srvn, but you can get idea that which i am talking about

Heads Up: Long Post Ahead
A few weeks back, I had posted that one of my indicators was not functioning properly. Took it to Sai Service, Lower Parel and the mech said it was a wiring fault. He cut the faulty wire and joined it using another piece of wire and the problem seemed to be solved.
A couple of days back, I tried to start the bike in the morning, but it was showing "High Coolant Temp." (all the heat bars were full) and "Low Fuel" (No fuel bars), couldn't here the fuel pump test sound too, this despite the bike being standing idle since last night!
Called up the ASC asap, the head mechanic (Rajni) told me to turn the handle the other way, and the warnings were gone! The fuel pump was working and the bike started.
Now Rajni asked me to get the bike to the ASC somehow. The only problem was, the moment the handlebar turned towards the left, the bike would stall.
Now I live around 12 km. from the ASC, so one can imagine the nightmare I had to go through, riding on peak rush hour Mumbai roads in this condition. Every 2 mins or so the bike would stall. I had to get it to the side and start it again.
At the ASC, after inspection, it was found that it was the same wire fault causing problems. The same jugaad was done and now the bike is working fine.
The only thing I'm left wondering is, what can be done in this case, cause I have a suspicion that this problem will resurface, can I claim warranty? cause if the wiring has to be changed, it will be an expensive proposition(around 6 grand!!)

Is you bike more than an year old?, if not ask for a complete wiring replacement as this is for a second time you have been facing issue with electricals (never pay a ruppee from your pocket) as eletrical warranty is present for an year.

Agreed! "chalta hai" attitude is bad. I've just replied to his previous post, the cracked airbox was just the tip of the iceberg, I've read about his other problems.Originally posted by s1d View PostIt's not about being paranoid.. looking at the way he/his bike was treated at the svc, he should have mentioned it on the service slip while signing it and taken a pic and sent it to Ktm/bajaj. In Goa, there is only one svc center for KTMs...and 2 certified mechanics, the svc people allow regular mechanics to service the KTMs, which is lame. I've complained many times and sent emails to Bajaj too but hardly any action is taken.2012 KTM Duke 200 ...Pure Love on two wheels <3

They might as well put a normal mechanic in a black KTM t-shirt and we won't even know if he has been given proper training or not..!!Originally posted by Evander_F View PostAgreed! Re: KTM 200 Duke
Guys I'm facing a couple of problems with my bike -
1) There's a sound coming from somewhere near the rear suspension whenever it gets compressed . Its like a chu chu kinda sound.
2) I have shorty adjustable levers installed and my brakes give off a wierd noise when the braking is almost complete and the bike is almost stopped . I've changed the brakepads recently and yesterday got the brake lines bled too . Still the noise hasn't stopped
Anyone faced something like this before? any suggestions?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Dont ride duke like a RX ... hit the throttle n be slick in changing gears... u will be there... dont go slow when wringing the wrist... go for bursts n when you are doing triple digits then its time for you to keep throttle half n inc n dec with demand ... ride safe. ..Originally posted by dukist View PostSo I got my first service done and I thought to redline few gears for short time . and well I am a bit disappointed the bike feels so stressed after 8500 RPM and almost cried going to the 10 K mark . Engine feels so stressed . Although I Didn't push the bike further as I could feel the stress . 3rd gear was giving up on 60 ish . It just doesn't sound pleasing
. I managed to touch 100 on 4th gear but it took a while . When I see videos of duke's acceleration , I could see them hitting the 10 K mark like a bullet . But same is not happening . Should I give immediate full 'throttle' for each gear.
Or It will eventually be fine and less stressed ?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
A 'regular' mechanic can sometimes be smarter than a 'certified' mech. What is important is, at the end of the day you the customer shouldn't be taking crap from them and paying for it! The ktm is a motorcycle like most others.. the mech needs to be sound in his basic mechanical knowledge on basic service jobs. The certification and training skills come in to play when working on more complicated stuff like engine internals and electricals. A smart mechanic will learn by watching and applying some common sense, mistakes do happen but they should be taking responsibility and fixing it. That's what makes a good service experience.Originally posted by Evander_F View PostIn Goa, there is only one svc center for KTMs...and 2 certified mechanics, the svc people allow regular mechanics to service the KTMs, which is lame. Again I can help you here.Originally posted by Akshay Sabnis View PostThanks Srvn for your idea. If the SVC guys remove the bend, thn its good coz it's saves 120 bucks. Thnks again
I faced the same problem, I asked the guy to reshape it, this works only if its a slight bend and for maybe for 1 or 2 low speed crashes .
I had to get them replaced cause I had fallen maybe 3-4 times and also the paint was chipped and it looked bad.
It is also structurally not sound and might not take the load if the bike has fallen multiple times and just straightened.

No mate, unfortunately its a little older(Sept. 2012), guess I should drop a mail to KTM about this, see if it helps.Originally posted by Srvn View PostHey, sorry to hear this...

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi,
I am interested in buying a duke 200. There are a few questiond that i have.
1:- I am 5'6" in height. Would it be problamatic for me to ride a duke in Traffic? I mean where i have to keep my feet on ground quite often. I have a honda dream. It's higher than normal bikes, but i don't face any problems on it.
2:- What about pillion comfort on this. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much would u rate it.
3:- how much would a secondhand duke 200 cost. Any rough idea.
