  • Odd sound like static from front.

    Hi Guys,

Today in the morning while riding to office, i got an odd sound from the front, very difficult to locate while riding. It sounded like static (like when we short to wires).
Electrical work fine, bike runs fine. The sound kind of got softer by the time i reached office.
Over night i had covered the bike with a plastic cover, could the moisture inside have caused it ?
Anyone faced this kind of sound. Some may call it "Krrr krrr" sound.

    • I have no ideas about an electrical problem, but try these steps to eliminate possibilities and pinpoint the problem:

      1. Is the sound produced when the bike is stationary and idling and/or stationary and being revved?

      2. Is this occurring only when moving? Does switching on the lights and creating a greater electrical load change anything?

      3. Try checking if this is from the flasher unit, does the sound change when using your indicators?

      4. If the sound is occurring only while moving, then try this: Take off your helmet and ride the bike slowly on an uneven road, listening carefully. Try to choose one which has a lot of gravel. Check to see if it is emanating from the front suspension. (this is a known issue with a simple fix). This sound is kind of metallic though and the vibrations may be felt in the handlebar too.

Thanks nirvan. The sound occurs only when the bike is moving - that too above 4k rpm. There is no problems with lights, indicators or any electricals. Will try to ride over gravelled road; though the sound was coming on good surfaced roads too.

        • Guys i am moving to Allahabad. So spares and service would be far. The nature of my job does not give me time to drive 250 kms to a service centre.
I am already buying coolant, brake oil, engine oil, chain clean, chain lube, puncture kit to do DIY. what else do you think should i take along.
I am planning to get my bike there by Gati Courier. Any feedback regarding their service?

            Brake oil - DIY
            Engine Oil - DIY
Chain Clean - DIY (Paddock Stand or lift it one side on main, CAUTION- Might rip your fingers)

Coolant - A strict no, it is pressurized, it needs to be done by ensuring the mech is equipped with closing it in the right manner, perfect torques required. There is a pressure unit also required to check the coolant pressure and its temperature. Seniors can enlighten more on this. Rest all ok.

If paddock stand is not there, do not try to do it by tilting the bike on the side stand. It might break. Not designed for this. Insted use a good chain cleaner and lube(Motul products are good) and apply them by moving the bike forward/backward.
Coolant chain should preferably be done by a good mech

Chain clean & lube is a must at every 500km interval.. Get your self Motul Chain Cleaner and Lubricant. It works amazingly.

Now, changing oil can be an option but it is not mandatory. There is a fair bit of argument between people about Engine Break-In method..

Coolant Top-up should only be done if it is at or below the minimum mark in the indicator.

Well Its BCU (Body Control Unit), that has/controls those sensors - A knowledge gathered in the Xbhp forum.

                    • Covered the 6 screw holes :

                      Front ( Near the Y-shaped frame ) : I use aluminium orange-anodized bolts

                      Rear ( Swing arm ) :
Top , covered it with Stainless Steel bolts
Bottom, covered it with BIKERS Swing Arm Spools

PS : in the picture, the side radiator cover was missing because it was being covered with dry carbon decals

old fz is known to have one of the smallest rear seat but none of my mates complained when i was having fz .. in pictures it looks like the duke's rear seat is slightly bigger than fz.. not looking for comfort here ... want to know your thoughts on this
