Mileage depends on various conditions like Fuel Quailty, riding style, braking, etc. I normally avoid revving or accelerating too quickly, I build up speed gradually and try to avoid applying the brakes as much as possible and utilize the engine braking to slow down. As per my understanding, mileage of 38 - 42 kmpl is decent for a bike of this pedigree.

I have been getting mileage of 38 - 42 kmpl calculated by full tank to full tank method for the past 5 times I've checked. I normally ride it in city traffic at 5 - 7.5k RPM at around 60 - 70 kmph. During my highway runs, I've got mileage of 45 - 52 kmpl as well.Originally posted by vizak90

+1 to this... When I ride the bike decently i.e. around 5000-6000 rpm - it gives a decent average.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostI have been getting mileage of 38 - 42 kmpl calculated by full tank to full tank method for the past 5 times I've checked. Coolant Spill
Today morning i saw few coolant spills in the radiator side guard. I checked where does this come from, it was not due to the loose radiator cap this time. I found a tube projected out from the coolant filler near the tank. The spills were from that tube as it had a drop of coolant on it about to fall. Is that a safety feature ? What is the reason behind that ? Kindly share you experiences. Thanks !!!

lakhs of people are getting 35kmpl from activa and dio ,,, still they are happy right .. mileage of duke is excellent for the fun it provides...Originally posted by AnupamOnWheels View PostThough it was not intended for me, but still I am getting anywhere between 32 - 38 in city and around 45 while riding in highway between 80 - 100 kmph with short bursts of 130+ . Actually if you can find open stretches in your day to day commute where you can ride it around 40 - 60 kmph, you have the golden chance of getting around 40 kmpl mileage in city itself. But that heavily depends on your riding style. Use engine braking more than the external brakes and you'll get good mileage.
One advice: Don't use SMS lingo or at-least keep their usage to minimum. It's against the forum rule and Moderators are strict in this regard. No offense

that is very good mileage with 2 people on boardOriginally posted by Rahulbarik View Postthe duke is having a wide range in mileage...anything between 20-60... I guess the sweet spot for mileage in duke is around 55-60 in 6th gear... Once me and my friend on his duke travelled from garia to barasat ie total em bypass along with total rajarhat...i was riding it and we planned to check the mileage that day... So i maintained around 60 the whole 110 kms round trip with short bursts to 80... Checked by full tank method and fuel efficiency was around 52-53 which i more than what i expected... But he gets around 25 with extreame ripping and 32 with normal riding.... Duke is just too good man...
the mileage you are getting is the same fz owners get .. look at the power difference ..omg ,, suddenly you realise that duke is a perfect all rounder ..Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostI have been getting mileage of 38 - 42 kmpl calculated by full tank to full tank method for the past 5 times I've checked. You can use Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant. I called up the Moto Shop a few days back and he said that it can be used in the Duke.Originally posted by Akshay Jain View Postcan i use engine ice coolant in my duke ? does it works more better from motul motocool stock one which is filled by company ..
I haven't personally used it yet but it is said that it keeps the engine approximately 5-6 degree cooler.

What's the status of the powerparts availability? Anyone have any info?
How come rim stickers, crash pads, tank cap sticker are available at some SVCs but the rest of the stuff is not? Any idea on if the rest are even going to arrive in India or not. I am interested in getting the handguards, KTM gloves and maybe the tank sticker kit. (the prices of all these were mentioned awhile back ITT)

/QUOTE]
Hey Rohan i have read almost all of your posts regarding the indecision
and i was in same situation for months albeit between duke and cbr 250r
i went all the way from Duke to CBR to a SBK to pulsar 200ns to now back t o Duke
talk about vicious Circle !!
many of your concerns regarding reliability and issues with various parts are justified while some are bordering or strictly technologically impossible scenario like bike petrol talk catching fire .
To give a short answer as of now - When the duke was about to be launched i was awestruck with its features, technology etc and even before having a test ride was falling for DUKE . After the test ride i decided completely against it. You can search my detailed posts regarding the same in this forum itself. just to be sure i went for another test ride and my impressions improved but not by high degrees.
I was decided on CBR after test riding it just after Duke but was never in accord with its vfrish looks and softer front suspension other wise i loved the bike.
while riding duke and cbr i decided to go for something bigger and went to Mumbai to buy SBK but in my budget it was getting generally carb ones of 1999 year so decided to save more money and meanwhile buy sub 1 lac bike.
Now i come to Pulsar 200 NS . i fitted my budget perfectly and the reviews were and are raving about the bike handling, pickup, build quality etc is better then last pulsars by miles. one mag went to an extent by even declaring although indireclty pulsar a better bike then duke.
so to say the least i was having high expectations when primarily for the test ride i went to Delhi.
After the test ride of Pulsar i found the bike is very good but by no mean superb or in a different league of my last pulsar circa 2006 pulsar 180.
Then i rode KTM and man what a difference
first almost all of niggles which i pointed out before in my posts were ironed out except
still was difficult to find neutral and horn is still a joke
I am of view bajaj/ktm have really toiled and ironed out all the issues which i experienced before and the bike which i rode was a better test ride vehicle then the ktm which i rode in Lucknow. These two combined had a wonderful effect.
Simply put comparing KTM to Pulsar is comparing apples to oranges in terms of bike feedback, engine grunt, pickup, commanding position, quality of parts, fit and finish of parts, paint quality technology etc etc.
if Pulsar 200ns is good value for money at 95 on road Delhi then KTM duke is a steal for 1,35,000 on-road in Delhi.
KTm is in different league then pulsar in everything, even if both bikes are just on side stands and you have a close look you will see the plastic quality of pulsar 200ns is not even comparable to Duke and so is the quality of paint on tank side panels etc. The way knees tuck in Duke gives you superb control, only aspect where a pulsar 200ns beats KTm is that it has got slightly better horn
.
After you reported of several problems with bike i read almost entire thread to come to conclusion that all the members are saying in unison that the problems are promptly sorted by Bajaj and new batches are not having the issues .
I don't mean to say Pulsar 200ns is not good product it is for its price but Duke is steal mate. I after test riding it twice had wrote it off but kudos to bajaj for making the changes at assembly line itself and training the technicians better so that bikes are being delivered in optimized condition now so i am forced to change my views that too happily as it is always good to see a product reach its worthwhile status now i intend to own it quite soon

hey guys
a small doubt
why does the exhaust note becomes smoother and smoother day by day
ive clocked 1600 kms
and day by day the grunt is fading away and can be hear post 7k RPM only
i know the sound smoothens out after certain amount of carbon build up in the exhaust but why cant i get that grunt anymore in lower rpms ?

partly due to the reason that it has in fact become smoother and partly due to the fact that you have gotten used to it.
For me, since I rode the bike without a lid for some time before finally getting my helmet, the change was even more drastic. SO don't worry, people can still hear the exhaust, may be a bit less but it's anyday louder than most other desi bikes

Duke owners please guide me regarding booking the Duke.

(i) regarding the whole procedure
(ii) Regarding whether to buy from Pro biking or local dealers
(ii) I wish to own one soonest and i will pay cash so how much discount can i get ? that money will towards buying rain cover, teflon coating etc
(iii) Any contact numbers or email id's of Bajaj employees so as i can discuss it with them as there are quite few duke sold in my city and wish to ensure good service and support
(Iv) How to check manufacturing date on bike ? where is it so as i can make sure its from latest batch.
(v) I have to buy Xena lock, Rain cover, a paddock stand , tank grip, please suggest me a place or website to get these at reasonable price with good quality.
(v) what to check in bike during delivery i have read the post and made note of the points written in this forum ie. coolant level, chain slack, scratches if any etc but if there are any additions to these and how to ensure a good service and delivery.
would really appreciate quick replies as i wish to book one in coming two days and i hope cash will bring me quick delivery so i wish to own one before Saturday.
(vi) How to ensure that the bike has not been test ridden and indeed not a demo, show room display bike as i am quite particular about these and buy any product after proper checking.

Check your Coolant level, when the engine is very hot. It seems the coolant overflowed when the engine was hot and came via the overflow pipe. And it's normal and present there for the security reason.Originally posted by bala.gg View PostToday morning i saw few coolant spills in the radiator side guard. ........ It is said that Engine ICE helps to keep the temp lower by 5 degrees. I haven't used it yet, but never found any negative feedback. Only thing is you have to flush the existing coolant completely before using it.Originally posted by Akshay Jain View Postcan i use engine ice coolant in my duke ? does it works more better from motul motocool stock one which is filled by company ..
Powerparts and powerwear are still not widely available. It depends on the dealer whether he will store all these parts(monetary reason I guess) but some dealers will arrange them if youbBook any part with them.Originally posted by sub-zero View PostWhat's the status of the powerparts availability? Answers in BOLD.Originally posted by maverick1 View PostDuke owners please guide me regarding booking the Duke.

(i) regarding the whole procedure
Procedure is same as of any other Bike. Pay the money and take the receipt. For finance you have to apply to the lender with required documents.
(ii) Regarding whether to buy from Pro biking or local dealers
I never knew that local dealers sell Duke. For my case it was ProBiking.
(ii) I wish to own one soonest and i will pay cash so how much discount can i get ? that money will towards buying rain cover, teflon coating etc
I am not sure Dealer will give you any discount. Max they can offer you some goodies like Key chain etc. Not considering any complementary tea/cofee or cold drinks. No free lunch in this world Bro!!!
(iii) Any contact numbers or email id's of Bajaj employees so as i can discuss it with them as there are quite few duke sold in my city and wish to ensure good service and support
No Bajaj employee can ensure you this as at the end of the end of the day, it's the SVC guyz who will get the job done. No bajaj employee will visit or work on your bike when you'll take it to service.
(Iv) How to check manufacturing date on bike ? where is it so as i can make sure its from latest batch.
I am in the process of finding this but as this is kept encoded, so you'll need to know the algorithm/logic to understand this.
(v) I have to buy Xena lock, Rain cover, a paddock stand , tank grip, please suggest me a place or website to get these at reasonable price with good quality.
Xena lock from their own site as I am not sure whether any indian site sell them. You can get Bullet rain cover or try any local auto shop. Tank grips are available in Ebay, PlanetDSG or performance racing(I think) or local shops. Paddock stands of good quality comes for 6000 - 8000 for CBR or KTM/Ninja. Any locally manufactured one for 2000 around is not that good.
(v) what to check in bike during delivery i have read the post and made note of the points written in this forum ie. coolant level, chain slack, scratches if any etc but if there are any additions to these and how to ensure a good service and delivery.
Search this thread with 'PDI' or check some pages back and you'll find the list. I think Janesh has posted this earlier.
would really appreciate quick replies as i wish to book one in coming two days and i hope cash will bring me quick delivery so i wish to own one before Saturday.
(vi) How to ensure that the bike has not been test ridden and indeed not a demo, show room display bike as i am quite particular about these and buy any product after proper checking.

Check the ODO reading and try to make a rapo with the sales guyz. Also tell them that I will choose my Bike from the lot.___________________________________________

Three Minor issues in my Bike - Just before 2nd service
Three minor issues(probably common normal issues that gets fixed by normal servicing) : ---
(1) - This is regarding one rare and odd behavior in my Bike. Maybe twice or thrice(during this five months of ownerships) I have felt the 'Hiccup issue'. It was like while upshifting from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd the Bike felt like lost it's power and was not ready to move forward for just a moment or two. The next moment with a bit more throttle it pulled heavily. That's why it felt like a hiccup. All these 2 or 3 times the Bike was hot. Although every other time(cold, warm or hot) it behaved properly.
Though its very very rare, could anyone throw some light about how it could happen? Air filter dirty?
(2) - Also, recently I am feeling a jerk in the throttle. I mean, when I am applying throttle from zero throttle position in 1st, 2nd or maybe even in 3rd gear the bike pulls with a jerk. Once this initial jerk is over Bike pulls very smoothly in every gear and for any amount of throttle input(even if you wring the throttle completely no jerk is felt). This phenomena reduces when Bike gets warm. My bike is just one month short of getting the 2nd service done. By any chance do you think that the clutch cable adjustment or chain slackness could be the culprit here?
faced and Fixed this during first service but the issue reappeared suddenly. Though I am sure it will be fixed during service but I wanted to know why this happens.
(3) - Getting a sound(Khat Khat or Thudd Thudd kind of) from the front of the bike(my honest guess). This happens only when I travel through a bad patch or road or embrace a bumper a little faster than usual.
Any issue with the front suspension?? Headlight assembly or console needs tightening??
I need to know all this so that I can explain them in a correct way to the SVC people once I go for the 2nd service.
