re: Bajaj Discover 125 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi guys,
Its good to be back after long time.. Good to see many 125st owners share their experience and are helping out others in few issues.. One thing which i found in this thread is that many owners tend to change their stock tyres with new zapper or ceat tyres.. well in my personal experience , i have completed around 6k in my ST . now i feel more confidence in riding and have better grip of the road..Mine isnt KINDA tyre , it was EUROGRIP which i think is far more better than KINDA .. But as u start to ride on the tyre begins to flat out and give you more traction .. so my personal advice to new 125ST owners, If you got EUROGRIP tyres , ride it out till 3k , then you will get the true feel of the bike..

re: Bajaj Discover 125 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi Guys,
I have been reading the posts in this forum for a long time as I was not comfortable with the Kenda tyres that came with the bike. I had completed around 2k on those but the tyres didn't inspire any confidence while applying hard brakes. And less I say about riding in wet conditions, the better. In a light drizzle, the bike will fishtail around like crazy.
After the experience of riding in rains, I read about experiences of others using the bike & I decided to change the tyres to MRF zappers before the full onset of monsoons. Both the tyres (Zapper FS and Zapper C) set me back by 3300 bucks but believe me, the bike stability has improved drastically. Bike feels more responsive during braking and cornering. I didn't get a chance to check the handling during wet conditions, but I am really confident that it will be better than the stock tyres. I will update the same after the monsoons start properly.
Ride Safe!!

re: Bajaj Discover 125 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thought I would post an update after 70 days and 1780 kms on odo. I got my first service at 640kms and since then I have noted the following:
1. Engine heating has reduced considerably (as expected)
2. Bike seems more maneuvreable and not stiff. This might be more of me adjusting to the new bike.
3. Mileage consistent at 62kmpl. Still driving below 55kmph as per manual
4. Tyres did seem to be a problem initially but seem to be doing ok as of now.
5. Engine sound has 'improved'
6. Initial 'jump' when starting the bike can be resolved by pressing the clutch and giving few kicks before starting the bike.
After 1st service, I had the following issues:
1. Rear brake squeaking for about 2 weeks due to water in the drum. Went away by itself.
2. Bajaj logo on the console has become very dim. Can see it only in the dark. Not sure if anything can be done about it
I am planning to change the oil to 15W50 Motul 3100 4T at 2000kms and then to 15W50 Motul 5100 4T at 5000kms and continue the drain cycle every 5000 kms. Service center is not accepting outside oil and the DTSi oil they put does not have a life of more than 1500kms. Bajaj sure has a sense of humor to quote a drain interval of 10000kms.
I am also planning to change the horn since the original one is very feeble and not suitable for city use, let alone highway runs. Even the activa horn sounds louder.
Will post another update after I complete 2000kms and change the oil. Would love to hear about other experiences as well.Better late by 30 minutes than early by 30 years.

re: Bajaj Discover 125 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi guys,
Got this bike in Nov'13. Just faced one major issue with my 125 st after 20 or so days after the 2nd servicing. The bike suddenly stopped while riding, couldn't shift the gears so took it to the ASC the next day and was shocked to find that bike's break lever had got damaged. They charged around Rs. 200 for part and said that it may be due to riding the bike as soon as you get into 1st gear. I drive the bike only on weekends when at home as i'm office goer n commute by office bus so i'm not sure how this problem cropped. Might be some manufacturing defect ?
I'm afraid I might get more problems in the bike in the future now. Have anyone of you got any major problem like this so far ?.
Btw, my bike is working fine now and has completed 4500+ kms and getting a mileage of 52 kmpl with average riding speeds of 70kmph. What mileage are you guys getting on your bike ?

Hi bro. Its a big issue. When the bike is kept idle for more than a day, it happens. If you dont take care of this thing it may harm you more.Originally posted by md_minhaj View PostHi guys,

Try warming up first and then put it in 1st gear.
It happened with me too but a xbhpian helped me.Its not the Bike that makes a Biker perfect, its a Biker who makes his Bike perfect :)

re: Bajaj Discover 125 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I have clocked 7777 kms now. Mostly drive around in high revs for 3rd, 4th and 5th. For the pass 500 kms or so, the bike some times lags. The lags range from small to large. Very rarely i feel the large lags. Whats the problem here?? Fuel line clogging? 99% i put petrol from shell.

Bajaj discover 125ST - Petrol tank issue
Hello everyone, I own a red bajaj discover 125ST since last 4 months.
I have a peculiar problem about it's fuel tank. I am not able to understand fuel gauge's behaviour.
It is claimed that reserve is of 3 litres. Last week I filled exactly 4 litres of petrol. Fuel gauge was showing tank nearly half-full. Then when bike hit reserve trip meter showed me ~57km. So mileage was ~57kpl. Now since then bike has run 140 km and fuel gauge is almost touching the stopper.
So now, if I got 57kpl mileage, then in 140 km bike should have consumed only about 2.5 L of petrol. But the way fuel gauge is showing it looks like there's only a litre of petrol in the tank. I dont understand this. When this bike hits reserve fuel gauge starts dropping at an alarming rate.
Also it is mentioned in tank specification that 3L is reserve and that 1.5L is unused. What does that mean? Does it mean that when fuel gauge has touched the needle there is still 1.5 L of petrol? Because of this strange behaviour I am not able to calculate mileage properly. Please help.

Always calculate FE either from Tankfull to tankfull (more accurate) or from reserve to reserve(less accurate). Never rely on the fuel gauge to calculate FE. At least not initially till you are not aware of its behavior.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Re: Help with Spark Plug: Discover 125ST
Your bike's air fuel mixture is not ideal. It is running rich (more fuel and less air).Originally posted by fohimuddin View PostDear All,
What might be the reason for the carbon deposit on the spark plug? And any measure suggested to keep the spark plug clean....
Help is very much appreciated.....
This is nothing to worry about
. Read on....
--Advantages--
* the engine might be cool - not literally.
* you may feel that the bike has more power - illusion.
--Disadvantages--
* more carbon deposits not only on plugs but also on piston head which might lead to high compression ratio and in turn detonation and other 'possible' complications
* lesser mileage than other properly tuned bikes
--Solutions--
* DIY - Do It Yourself recommended only if you have prior experience in getting your hands greasy. If interested a beginner's guide is here
* Service center - Not sure if they will attend to this problem alone. I would not be interested.
* Local mechanic - Best solution. Damage to your pocket would be 30/-
--Source--
* Similar experiences on my P150 DTSi
---Good to know stuffs for ya---
* The default AFR setting should be 2.25 - 2.75 turns outwards (anti-clockwise) from '0'.
* Ensure that the mechanic cleans the spark plugs and air filter before tuning the carb.
* Set the idle RPM correctly.
* Drive around for about 20-25kms until engine warms and check spark plug again after engine cools down. Plug chop test is also recommended by few BHPians.
Good luck!Last edited by petrolhead_chn; 07-16-2013, 09:58 AM.My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Discover 125st mileage problem continues
Hello,
I own a Discover 125 st since last april. Have completed 2 servicing now but the bike is giving me very low mileage still.
I am getting the mileage of 45-50. It's quite shocking for a bike aimed at mileage segment. Here's the story of servicing.
Before servicing I was getting about 45kmpl. For first service I went to authorized bajaj servicing center. They increased the number of problems. I started getting loud chain sound, cold start problem and worst of all I was getting 35-40kmpl. I went again to get the problem corrected. Still I was getting 45-50. I just waited for another service.
For second service I went to other service center. There I asked them if there was any better engine oil available, so they poured in motul synthetic oil. He said for mileage there is some setting. I really doubt what sort of setting can just correct the mileage?
So after servicing bike was running exceptionally smooth for a couple of days. I was really happy. Then I filled in Rs.500 worth of petrol. Total 6.5L and 3.5 L before reserve. I have gone only 130 and it's half a notch above reserve. Even with 50kmpl I should be going anywhere above 170. But again it looks like I am going to get pathetic mileage of below 50. One more thing is, after 50kph, engine struggles badly. Huge vibrations creep in and I have to really twist the throttle to get it beyond 50. It's like engine is begging not to stretch beyond 50kph. With 5 gears thrown in, it should do at least 60kph comfortably. Also after 50kph absolutely loud sound arises from area where chain rotates from camshaft.
I feel like I am cheated. Performance from this bike is absolutely pathetic. I took good care before first 1000 kilometers. Rarely went beyond 50. Now that I have gone about 2200kms and my journey involves highway I have to ride at 60 to reach in time. But then engine literally cryies at that speed. And this bajaj claimed 13 bhp from this. I really doubt it as it completely lacks low end power and not even decent accelaration. I just dont understand what to do now. Even by different service center the problem cannot be solved.
