  • Re: Discover 125st mileage problem continues

I went to svc today. When I showed the chain sound issue to mechanic there he said it is normal. He showed me chain sound of a pulsar 220 there. However, it was not as loud as mine. But I made him check it anyways. So he lubed the chain and also checked from where starts rotating lubed that part copiously. Then he did AFR adjustment for a few minutes and came with me for a test ride.

What he showed me was a very unique kind of mileage check technique. He shut the petrol cock and started riding till engine started hick-ups and then he pulled the choke from somewhere from right side of the engine. Bike started running again. Then he rode till bike finally stopped. We had gone 1.4km then. According to his explanation, carburetor holds 25ml of petrol, so I am getting ~5.6 km per 100ml, which means I should not get about 55 kmpl average.
I was not satisfied with his method, so he repeated whole thing again. We again went exactly 1.4km. So I guesswhatever he did was correct.

I then exclaimed as to how all of a sudden mileage will improve? Because last time I had given bike to them they said they will do some setting, which must be AFR, to improve mileage. I asked him whether they had done the setting last time or not? He said that AFR adjustment is a thing of trial and error and that this time he has succeeded! Now lets see what happens. I will fill up tank and check mileage again.

You should have asked him about the performance, why is the bike struggling to cross 60. A bike which goes to almost 110kmph speedo indicated should do 60 easily.

When you went for the test ride you should have asked him to reach at least an 80kmph so that considering there was a pillion the performance doubt would have been cleared.

Did you try rotating the rear wheel while the bike was on the center stand infront of him or after the service? Check it, as you mentioned earlier that it seemed its not moving freely. And if its still not moving freely go back to the mechanic at the svc and show him the exact thing. But do check the mileage you are getting now.

Yeah, I told that. He said now that he has done correct AFR setting engine will get a bit smoother over a course of couple of days.
I tried rotating the rear wheel. It looks much more free than before.
Mileage seemed to have improved. With the same amount of petrol last time, bike couldn't cross 235. But today, I am on 250 and it's still splashing around in the tank. I think it will go 20 km more till it reaches danger level.
Yes but I think I will go to svc again for engine struggling issue.

Okay, nice to know that there is some improvement. Regarding the engine struggling issue, you just mentioned that the rear wheel is comparitively much free now. Then the performance should have improved a bit. How is it now? I mean the performance post service. During your next trip take him for a TD and show him if the bike is struggling. If possible get it compared with another Discover 125st if possible, and make sure you are there at all times, whatever he does, whether its a test ride or some work on the bike.
Demand explanation for what is he doing or what he feels is wrong with the bike. You have bought it with hard earned cash, you are the boss. Talk gently but be firm. Your bike would be fine.

I took bike to svc again.took a test drive. Mechanics said there is nothing erong bike. Said those vibrations are normal.
However i noticed that in oil window that oil level is way high. That cannot cause any problem or can kt?

Somehow I am not convinced with the reply from SVC guys that the chain noise is common.

              1. Did you check the rear wheel alignment? Improperly worn treads in the tyre or vehicle pulling to a side indicates poor alignment.
              2. Sometimes when the front and rear sprockets are not aligned this happens.
              3. Check if the rear axle is properly spaced. You can check this with the help of chain adjusters on the swing arm.

BTW, excess oil is not recommended. Over time, you will notice oil seeping out of the valve cover and the camshaft cap due to unhealthy oil pressure.

ya well it now looks like that loud chain sound has somehow reduced. also vibrations have lessened.
I will check with them again about excess oil.

hi guys. I bought D 100T this past May 13. Sorry guys the D 100T thread is not alive. thats why i am here.

I am very much comfortable and happy with D 100T . But i got a very strange problem. The humming sound coming from the bike. The bike is just 2000km ridden and 2 services done .
I bring it to the Bajaj SC amritsar. They changed the silencer [whole] but all in vain. After an hour they told me that is nothing serious its your fabia. We exchange arguments... and finally i met the owner of the agency. He told me "give me a one day ". Then finally after 2 days i got my bike fixed... and the problem they told me they fixed is the burnt coil surrounded with copper wires.

Hmmm... Not sure what your point is all about "Fabia" (or phobia) and the "burnt coil surrounded with copper wires".
But congrats on getting it fixed.

                    BTW, is it fixed ?

Now i request you people to help me in changing the rear tyre of D 100T. Its quality and width is not good. The problem is i cant change the width of the rear tyre coz there is a guard right above the tyre. .

Discover 100T being very similar to 125ST in all aspects except for power - it would be great if this thread can be modified for both 100T, 125T and 125ST ownership experience. BTW - this would help me and many others who do not care about the price difference of 6000-8000 for 100T to 125ST but DO CARE about the difference the power and mileage delivers. [can someone create a survey with option to choose the mileage like 30-35, 35-40, 40-45,....70-75, 75-80?]

Anyone had luck with fitting a tachometer? This was being discussed few pages ago.
