I use a chain spray called "Release on" which I got for around Rs. 250 from Jaipur... Its good enough and does the job of keeping water and dirt away.
I've no other such experience with chain sprays as I have started using O-Ring chains lately only.

Motul also makes some good branded chain sprays & lubricants. Not sure about Shell though.

      • Hey Guys.. I am new to the thread and this is my first post on xbhp though am a member for a long time. I own a ZMR and i have completed 17000kms.. I would like to change the sprockets ( Of course after its worn out ) Can you guys with your experience tell me the best direct fit (if possible front as i read from previous posts that P220's rear is a direct fit) to make my ZMR get a better top end?? I guess the Achiever has got a 15T in front, would that fit directly? or which ones do you suggest? Awaiting your experienced replies

          Hi Dude,
Achiever's front end most probably should not fit your bike as its not .520 pitch. Not too sure though. Secondly, you have these recommended choices to overgear your bike:

          1. Pulsar 200's sprocket which is 38 teeth.
          2. Pulsar 220 DTS Fi's sprocket which is 37 teeth.

But please keep in mind that Karizma's chain is very long. It has 108 links. Senior Pulsar's (220/200) usually have 104 links. So, you'll have to purchase 2 chain sprocket kits: One from Karizma and other from one of the senior Pulsars. This is the info about Karizma's overgearing:

          1. Front Sprocket: ONLY Karizma's stock 13T sprocket will fit.
          2. Chain: Usually Karizma's Chain, or if you have chosen 37 teeth sprocket then maybe P220's smaller chain.
          3. Rear Sprocket: from Pulsar 220/200.

If you can get P200's rear sprocket separately, then it should be economical enough.

@ All others: Guys, I have updated the first page with MORE INFO as to how to calculate the chain length and choose the correct length for your bike.
See Post #8 on the first page for it.

              Hi,

Apart from the 37 teeth and 38 teeth, these may fit but I don't suggest them:

              1. The 36 teeth from P220 DTSi (recent 2011 model) will overgear heavily. Since, Karizma already has a long fifth gear, I do NOT recommend putting this 36T.

              2. The 39 teeth from P180 UG4 won't overgear by much as your stock sprocket is already 40 teeth. It would be wasted money. NOT recommended.

And No, I'm not suggesting you to use P220's chain. All I'm saying is use whichever fits. And most probably, only ZMA's chain will fit. So, use that only. Best of luck.

Hey guys.. I finally decided to try on the 36T of P220 Dtsi.. the pick is not lost much but yes, i am not able to do a wheelie like i usually used to.. but that didn't matter.. Gonna test the bike in 2 weeks on highways to Auli from Delhi.. will let you guys know the outcome.. its just a risk that i ve put across on my Black Pearl..

Before changing sprockets.. me and my friend checked for the speed at 5000RPM of every gear.. we arrived at the following..

                1st Gear - 22
                2nd Gear - 36
                3rd Gear - 48
                4th Gear - 66

                  1st Gear - 19kmph
                  2nd Gear - 29kmph
                  3rd Gear - 47kmph

                  5th Gear - 86kmph

The Strain on the Engine has reduced and hence on highways.. its gonna be a smooother ride than before

tried Max till 9000RPM in first 3 gears... achieved a pretty decent speed touched 101kmph at 9000RPM in 3rd gear yet to touch the top speed..

If you overgear, it will give better highway mileage, and sometimes city mileage too.
For your CBZ Xtreme, the company setup is 14/43 with 126 links on .428 pitch. (Please confirm this by counting the teeth on your rear sprocket it they're 43). Chain length = 63 inches.
You may try classic CBZ setup, for more acceleration, which is 14/46 with 128 links, on .428 pitch. This should fit most probably.

Or for overgearing, try going for Ambition's setup of 14/38 teeth, but the ambition chain is smaller so you might have to purchase your original CBZ Xtreme's new chain again because chain length is smaller at 58 inches.
Or try getting a 15 teeth front sprocket from Honda Unicorn, for overgearing.

Cost of each original kit (Front sprocket, rear sprocket, chain) is approx. Rs. 600-800. But since you might need a separate chain you might have to purchase 2 kits.

                      --
@ rreneav: I hope you didn't lose much acceleration. I warned you about 36 teeth sprocket earlier. Anyways good luck.

Hey Buddy.. yeah.. the acceleration loss is not much and it is negligible thanks to your advice mate.. just for the rear sprocket i had to purchase the entire P220's kit but hey.. the bike is smoother now.. cos i ride at a constant speed of 60-70.. and am able to achieve this speed in 3000RPM in 5th gear so less strain to the Engine..

but heavy overgearing like shifting from 14T to 16T front sprocket may reduce city mileage. At least it happened to my stunner. Because of more gearshifts & some clutch riding on first two gears i Guess.

Yes, that's why I said "sometimes" city mileage too.

The primary reason is less availability of torque at all rpm's, which forces you to shift more gears than required. Same thing happened when I used my P180 UG3 with a cheap 40 teeth sprocket. It was great on highways, but in the city, gearshifts increased.

So, if you can maintain 25 kmph in the top gear without stalling, it will increase to 28 or 30 after overgearing.

I tot that losing the pick up will spell me out of doing initial Wheelie's.. but actually.. its kinda easy for me to do the wheelie now.. infact.. better than before.. and what I noticed on my ZMR is that fuel indicator showing bigger figures after the over gearing.. and my gear shifts seem to be the same as how it used to be before.. maybe cos i don't shift much and my way to office is usually a straight road...
