thanks peaesus.
shelton_jh thanks for the replies !
I am going to buy the cramsters too along with the Rynox optimus s. The dirtsacks are a bit too small in volume :| rohitbond1 ouch! I wish you a healthy recovery bro. I was nervous about it as it is my first ride in the hills and now I am thinking I should just restrict it to Shimla and do lahaul spiti a few months later!. And I dont have much knowledge about the tyres. Can you suggest a dual purpose tyre for the 390. I won't mind if its not the exact same size.
Thanks for the pointers nelson_sanjoy. I am going to get the cbr's wind shield and try and fit it on my bike. Thanks a lot krashnburn aprreciate it
and thank you @abhijeet080808 for the tips and I have already given up on the idea of the ktm wind shield
So I guess while coming downhill I should ride like I would while going up, proper gears and everything, right ?
Do I need to take any special care while riding with saddle bags ? As i haven't used any before.
Any tips on riding on black ice ? Or should I just end my trip at shimla for now as I am pretty inexperienced ?When life gives you Yamaha, make it RD350 not R15. :D

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
In addition to normal braking, use engine braking while coming down-hill. It helps in keeping the bike under control. And ya, coming down-hill requires more skill than going up-hill. Just be careful at the corners, don't go too wide and keep an eye for the on-coming traffic.Originally posted by Abhishek2255 View PostSo I guess while coming downhill I should ride like I would while going up, proper gears and everything, right ?
I have seen many riding in neutral while coming down-hill, thats really dangerous. Never do this.
Ride safe and have fun.

Thanks Abhishek2255, This was my 5th ride to Narkanda, it is that addictive. You never understand Black ice until you fall on it. It will be a dark patch like glassy wet road. Only pointers for black ice is NO BRAKING and NO means NO. keep in 1st gear or may be 2nd if you can handle speed. Stop by feet. Generally they put sand on black ice to make it bit tractive but still not good for bikes. Slight speed variation means grip loss.Originally posted by Abhishek2255 View Postthanks @peaesus.

It will be very wise for you to go till Simla and End up there or may be Kufri if you want to see black ice. It will start as soon as you pass first tunnel towards kufri.
If you can wait few months down the line, we can plan Spiti vally Circuit via Key Gompa in April or may.

Coming downhill always be in gear and Patience is the key. Keep in your lane, don't rush you will get you chance to overtake. No special care for saddle bags except even balancing .
For dual purpose tires: only available in India are: Ceat Vertigo, MRF Mo Grip, and Michelin Sirac. May be some imports also Check Karol bagh if you are from delhi.
Max you will get are 120mm.
As dual purpose per indian standards, these all are rated for 150kmph. and i wonder where you will ride faster than this.
Have fun on your ride, Please post the pictures.Flying Spur

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Nothing is silly and what you're about to do is something! If you are breaking the trip into 3-4 stops, then it is advisable to lube the chain wherever you stop for the night or else you can ride it for 1k kms without any problem, just make sure you've lubed and tightened the chain before the trip. I did a 2750kms round trip recently and during my return journey it was one shot and I did 1380kms without lubing, the chain was making noise because of the dirt and there was slight slack. So it is good for 1k but as i said earlier if you have many stops plan to lube it whenever you can.Originally posted by coolmaverickguy View Postbrothers some silly query.

About the kit, I just had the standard kit and I dint have to use it even once but you can be better prepared! Someone else can help you on thisYoung riders pick a destination and go, Old riders pick a direction and go !

I remember reading ABS can give warning light when there is difference in speed between front and rear tyres. Refer page 75 in the user manual.Originally posted by Abhishek2255 View Postthanks peaesus.

Information in manual says it happens when it differ greatly but still select the tyre size keeping that in mind.
If there is anyone did this already on 390 please advice.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
sir just a few questions regarding your bike, first of all very nice bike never thought the D390 would look that good with all the flaring's removed!Originally posted by joelkraju View PostAnswers in bold.
Questions:
1. Is your muffler a full system? or is just connected from the elbow?
2. Aside from the muffler what other mods? I mean is the gearing stock? and is the airfilter stock as well?
3. Could you post some pics showing how the muffler is connected as I plan to do the same exact mod to my bike(dont want the bent under the frame pipe)

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I had my first accident on my Duke day before yesterday. I was riding at 30-40kmph and a man came in front of me suddenly from the left side. There was a car before the man and so I couldn't notice him coming. Add to that, he was crossing the road and looking at the opposite side! I honked and braked but it was too late.
I crashed him and fell on the ground. He didn't even get a scratch. :|
There are no bruises but I hit my left knee hard on the ground. No fracture but the knee is swollen and I have difficulty in walking. Bike's engine guard is bent, clutch cover is broken and left mirror is crushed to pieces.
