The RC may not be..but then we might have the CBR 300 or 500 coming our way..!! and that sure is a good option probably.

Add the Hero HRX 250 and the pulsar 375 to that list. Both of the might turn out to be really good options.

The Hero HRX250 is really something I would say that would have to prove it's worth first, might be a great package, not saying it isn't , in equal probability could turn out to be disappointing too. But basically , yes, we could add it to the list.

What I was getting at was that the other models are tried and tested and have a credible track record.

And good news for the future 390 buyers. The new lot of 390's have much more refined engines, somehow bajaj managed to make them smoother. The overall quality seemed better. I rode a black 390 and the difference in the refinement level was extraordinary. Mind it, I have ridden quite a few 390's before.

Looks like bajaj-ktm has been listening to the customers and they managed to make an already good product better. Proper quality check finally looks like is in place.
          Thanks
Bookings still didn't Start here in Bangalore.
And the refinement part is the best thing I have read on this thread.
I live 200kms from the nearest ktm showroom and 315kms from a good one . So its a risk worth taking now for this awesome beast.

Thanks guys, the d390 was just one of the contenders in the list and hope auto expo has some more surprises

Btw good to know the latest batch of 390 have most issues resolved. There is currently no other bike as VFM as this one! So was just wondering the effectiveness of windshields so that it would make a good touring package.

The bike does really good for long distances(assuming you have enough Fuel pumps on the way), Me(CBR250) and my brother(390) have been doing the Bangalore Trichur(550kms) circuit quite frequently and the duke performed flawlessly, it is really a pleasure to ride, a few people complain about the hard seat, but for some reason me and my brother haven't felt it to be a hindrance, proper pit stops does take care of that issue, now my statement about the windshield comes from as said by a friend of mine, he too being a crazy tourer and he found it good enough, a support clamp will make it perfect.

But I do have to say this , the metzelers are not the "take me anywhere" kind, Smooth and slight rough tarmac it will handle with ease, but apart from that cuts and punctures are a really a great risk for those super soft compound, also, such super soft tyres when used mostly in highways(read boring straights) at higher speed will cause it to wear the tyre in a squared out fashion, which will inturn give poor life and also added expense, if you hit the ghats quite frequently, then ignore my words and go knee dragging...:-D

I mean is there really that much of a difference from the old ktm's to the new ones?

This has my mind confused one part is super excited for the duke 390 but after reading this errr... I dont know if I'm getting a good quality product

                  Please share your thoughts.
While is it is difficult to say, it surely cannot be judged by colour alone whether or not you folks are getting 390s with the refinements.

I would guess the lot that you are going to receive in Philippines will be manufactured in 2014 and in all likelihood will have the refinements. Even if they don't, fret not, since the refinements are most likely to be because modified fuel maps via ECU reprogramming. Which means sooner or later you will have the upgraded fuel maps via an ECU flash. Either way, quality is not an issue, you are buying the same product with perhaps a different software version.

                    Yup makes sense
But it is with engine feel or the overall bike?

Visited KTM Mekhri circle on Saturday at ~3:45PM, mainly to buy chain cleaner and chain lube. They didn't have the cleaner so bought just the lube (Oks).

I enquired if they can clean, lube & adjust the chain for me and they replied in positive. Also, I requested them to set the clutch play right (there was too much play), remove mud-guard and set RHS mirror to correct position which had become loose which I presume was because of vibrations this bike generates.

All the jobs were done in ~10 mins and the Service Advisor Mr. Sebastien was courteous and professional. The techinicians didn't come across as butch and handled the bike well. I am quite impressed that inspite of going unannounced they attended to me instantly. Though the tasks I requested for were simple not all A.S.S oblige. Since this is the closest from my home, I am thinking of trying them out for next service.

P.S: Even after clutch play adjustment, gear shift is not any smoother. Not that it bothers me, but some members have reported butter smooth shifts after clutch play adjustment. My ODO stands at ~1350kms.

The gear will become smoother eventually (but not butter smooth) as you complete more kms. Also, both clutch play, chain slack matters in terms of gear shifts and vibes on the foot pegs.

Here is how it looks. After my ride to office today, I can say that the mirrors are much better than stock ones.

Nope, not on the 390, but a few rally prepped 200 had a different offroad type tyres, naturally cornering is not a priority on offroad tyres,
you look it up in google or FB.

Since the 390 and 200 share the same tyre sizes they will be switchable.

looking for someone else doing the experiment with tyre and check if it is able to handle 390's power..
looking for 'slightly lesser' sticky than metzeller but better at bad roads.. Dual purpose kind.
