Even I have had this habit of never leaving the vehicle with SVC. In fact for all the vehicle right from Hero Puch in school days to RC 390, I have had them serviced right in front of me. This actually has multiple benefits.

    1. Gives a peace of mind to know that the bike isn't mishandled.

    2. Service gets done quickly. Of course, I always reach the earliest and ensure it is the first appointment so that the job is finished by noon.

    3. Sometimes there are issues which I forget mentioning in job card but remember while the bike is being serviced. (This is actually a poor excuse. )

    4. I get many tips and tricks from the mechanics who actually have a lot to share.

    5. With RC in particular, I get to learn how to access the various components and fix issues in case of any emergency!

Her, you guys.. Any idea how long cleaning the throttle body takes?

The guys at the service center day it takes a day. Anyone out there with the experience of having it cleaned.

It takes around 20 minutes to clean the throttle body. The actual cleaning part only take 2-3minutes, the rest of the time goes in to removing and putting back of the seat,tank/cover, and connecting the throttle body back.
The throttle body is like a single piece, they do not dismantle it like a say a carb. And it usually is washed with petrol and a brush or they just use their fingers and a rag to clean out the insides.
I have seen it being done.

Hi Guys... I would like to post my 8 months ownership short review on the bike.

          Problems:
          1. Low battery issue.. battery replaced (though it showed that the battery was perfectly fine).. 2-3 visits to svc center.
          2. Over heating issue.. Fan replaced yes and this also after 2-3 visits. Fan would stop working all of a sudden.. but when ever I take it to svc center.. it used to work fine. but still they replaced it.
          3. Oil seepage from Head.. Fixed by mechanics after 2-3 visits to svc center. Found that the thread was missing on the holder for the valve rollers under head cover. Replaced under warranty.

Visiting svc center is not much of an issue for me as it is on the way to office..but ya.. the issues that comeup.. that is the problem.
However, after the last issue which was 2-3 months ago.. the bike has been running perfectly.
          No major issues.

(all of the issues happened at aprox. same time.. so did not do as many visits as it seems)

          Positives.
Its a Gem of a ride.
Fun to ride in city and on highway.

The svc center guys are helpful mostly.
and all the other good things that you can find in other reviews.
I am happy with it.. no major issues at all.
Completely reliable bike. can be taken on any place. Just fill and go kind of Bike. (except for chain has to be lubed every 500 odd kms).
If you have never done a mistake in your life, it means you have never tried anything new.

Bro did you got any chance to ride them in wet roads?
where did you bought the tyres ?
Any idea about Pirelli Sport demon ? it has also got speed rating of H54 [ source - tyreonwheel.com]

I hardly go above 150kmh. I'm a tourer & feel more comfortable about 100-130 range. Due to lack of availability of good tyre in my city, i changed my rear tyre with mrf 150/60 c cant even find the new c1. As my front tyres have already done 17000 km +, was thinking of changing them to mechillen or pirelli 110/70.
will be waiting to know your experience on wet road.

            Cheers

Do you guys get the spark plugs replaced in EVERY service?

Owner's manual has contradictory statements on this. While the service coupons say replace "if needed/applicable" in another section it says in ALL paid services the spark plugs should be replaced. Dealers cite this and insist on replacing the spark plugs.

KTM has 120 days interval between two paid services and replacing spark plugs in such short time doesn't make sense to me if the running is low. In my case it has run ~3k kms.

Not really necessary to replace them every service. I skipped replacing the plugs on the second service(@6k on the odo) and the mech also said not necessary and we can do it at next service at 11k(he said its compulsory to replace all the filters viz. air, oil, fuel though i was skeptical about the air filter but went ahead with a new one)
The dealers just want to make money, and so you need to have a good rapport with them to avoid these unnecessary charges.
I don't see why the spark plug wont last 10k km at least (unless you use shitty fuel n ride like a maniac all the time). At around 10k on the odo i feel is the right time to change the plugs on these hot running machines.

Exactly my thoughts too. It is ridiculous to replace spark plug just after ~3k kms!! Replacing air filter also at such short intervals don't make sense. Acquisition price maybe VFM but maintenance is definitely not VFM!

I've written to KTM for clarification, let me see what they come up with.

Its depends from person to person riding particular places. Check them before you replace them. we tour a loads of remote places so the air filter is quite dirty, spark plug also put on carbon and so is the in-line fuel filter whose colour gets mucky from white. so i change them every 5k km. if one travels only on highways and well plotted road they can stretch it to 10k km.

That probably is the real problem here. They refuse to do this. Irrespective of the condition they replace it! They show you that last page from the owners manual to justify.

I ride only on well paved roads in moderate city traffic. Once a month I make a highway trip and even that is on smooth roads. I really don't think it should warrant spark plug replacements at 5K intervals!
