      Hi Guys,

I have few issues with my duke 390 2014 August model. Are there any solutions for them ? Will the service guys help me to resolve these issue

      1. The heat from the engine is hitting my thighs after riding in city for around 15kms. The heat is unbearable if I stop in the signals or due to traffic jam
      2. The clutch is little hard
      3. I changed back tyre from Michelin pilot street to metz again, now I feel the bike is less powered. I don't know if it is due to the stickiness of metz or something changed while replacing the tyre like chain tension, I even tightened the chain

To address the heat, have them fit the new model radiator shroud.

And due to the tyre change your tyre profile is different so the topened would have increased and accel slower.

          Hey danny,

Thx for the reply. Will go to KTM to get the new model radiator shroud. Now I understand the reason for low acceleration. It is due to tyre profile form 140-150

            Hello,

I have recently got the font tyre changed to Michelin Pilot Street, same size, but after the switch, the bike's handling has changed dramatically. The handlebar takes a lot of effort to move, it seems to have got tightened. Though the tyres are only around 50Kms old, but is that something which will change over the period of time?

Or it it possible the tyre was not fit properly? The rotation of the tyre is in proper direction.

            Any help would be appreciated.

            Thanks
            Akshay

Michelin pilot are very good tyres, even I have the tyres on my bike front and rear rear has covered 12k and the front around 7k I have had no problems with them, usually it will take 300 to 400 kms for the tyre to set wait for a few hundred kms it will be fine, and also check if the tyre is running in the Wright direction there is a arrow indicator on the tyre, also check near the beed area of the tyre is fitted properly and lastly check air pressure (cold)

What is the coolant used in 390? where can i buy a bottle in Bangalore? My coolant level is been dropping very regularly for 3-4 months now and its a pain to go to SS to top it up everytime. There is no visible leak outside, and also does not look like its mixing in the engine oil. So i have taken the mystery for granted, as the bike is been running ok. Any leads would be helpful.

Mystery it maybe.. just today saw an rc390 with less than 300ml coolant on draining and checking the oil window showed oil in normal color. But only a proper drain and inspection of the oil will tell the true story.
Before you top up the expansion tank, be sure to check the radiator first and top up the radiator.. then top off the expansion tank.
Look for any leaks or tiny crack/holes on the radiator, maybe it leaks a wee bit and over time the loss is significant.

You can use motul motocool coolant(premixed, no need to dilute it with distilled water).. costs around 400rs for a litre i think. If not get the castrol radicool, but this needs to be diluted with distilled water i think (unless the bottle says its a premix)

Fork Protectors a sold as a powerpart, not a standard fitment.

                        PDI

                        1. Front wheel: Check for free rotation fore and aft. Look our for date of manufacture of tyre. Look closely for any bend/chipping on the alloy wheel.

2: Front mudguard: Check for sufficient play between the front suspension forks and the mudguard. Ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened properly.

3: Headlamp assembly: Check for proper fitment of fairing. All bulbs should function properly. Headlamp focus can be cheched by throwing headlamp beam on a wall.

4: Meters: All meters/warning lamps should function properly. Check out the calibration of the fuel gauge. How much is the reading on the odo. Do the blinkers/high beam indicators work propely?

5: Key: the key shoud go smoothly inside the key hole. Check for locking of handle.

                        6. Switches: Do all switches function properly? Does any switch show any resistance? Do the indicators cancel when the blinker switch is pushed in?

                        7. Fuel tank: Look our for dents and scratches. Is there any discolouration on the paint, especially at the top side? Check the functioning of fuel cap. Hold the tank with both hands on either sides and try to shake it left-right. Movement should be zero or minimum.

                        8. Seat: Look out for cuts, sogginess of foam compound, and fraying at the seams.

9: Rear wheel assembly: Check for free movement of wheel fore and aft. Look out for any damage on the alloy wheel. What is the date of manufacture of the tyre? A new 2 wheeler tyre will generally have small, evenly spaced rubber bristles all around the circumference of it's sidewall.

                        10. Rear Suspension: Take the bike off stand and sit on its rear sit. Jump up and down on the seat. Is there any noise from the rear suspension? Does it feel too hard or too soft? Paark the bike on main stand and compare both rear dampers while standing behind the bike. Does one damper look longer/smaller than the other?

11: Drivechain: The free play in the chain should be 1 or 1.25 inches measured with the rider sitting on the bike while it is off stand.

                        12. Front/Rear brake adjuster mechanism: Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder.

13: Side Covers/Panels: Look out for dents/scratches. Check the locks. Do the panels fit flush on their mountings after being locked?

                        14. Engine: Look for any signs of oil leak at all joints (clutch cover, crankcase, cylinder head, engine oil filler/drain screw). Start the engine and let it run for 5 minutes. Is the idling smooth? Are there any wanted/strange noises coming from the engine? Check the engine oil level. Is there paint coming off from any part of the engine? Are there signs of any screw having tempered with?

15: Horn: Is the sound clear and consistent?

16: Gearbox: Check for oil leaks at the gear lever mount. Do all gears engage smoothly? Is the neurtal easy to find?

17: Footpegs: Are all footpegs tightened properly? Is any rubber covering missing from any footpeg?

18: Clutch: Is there sufficient play in the clutch? Does it engage and disengage smoothly?

19: All cables: Are they routed properly? Look for fraying.

20: Front/rear brake: Are they set properly? Is there proper free play in the levers?

21: Front suspension: Take the bike off stand. Apply the front brake and push the handlebars down amd up several times. There should be no noise from the front suspension. Check foir any oil leaks.

22: Number plates: Are both number plates present?

23: Rear view mirrors: Are both rear view mirrors present? Do they adjust properly? Get them adjusted to your riding position.

24: Silencer: Check for dents/holes/paint fade. Is it bolted properly to the cylinder head?

                        25. Tire pressure: Are the tires inflated to the manufacturer recommended air pressure (I bet they wont be)

26: Test Ride: Now take the bike out for a test ride with a pillion. Does the engine pull smoothly? Do the gears engage freely? Is there any struggle in the engine? Does the clutch bite properly? Is there any noise from anywhere, especially from the suspension? Does the bike turn smoothly? Is the ride hard or soft? Is there smoke coming from the silencer? Get the bike back to the showroom and park it on a level surface. Do you see any oil leakage?

27: Documentation: RC book, Insurance, Battery warranty, PUC certificate (if applicable), Invoice, Bill for accessories fitted, if any, Owner's manual, Service/Warranty booklet, Duplicate key, First aid kit, Tool box.

28: Petrol: Is there sufficient petrol to take you till the fuel bunk?

Just be aware of KTM lajapt nagar they are cheat so better buy and service from other Ktm from NCR. In last orange tour to Mussorie they cancelled the trip last minute and dido not refund customers money. On asking them they said their staff runaway with money. It's a cheat company and I have myself complained about this to them. Also earlier there was a complain against them when I book bike with them they did not wanted to give to the customer as per waiting list. Only after complaint to Ktm india and Ktm global action was taken.

I bought a can of motul from the service center. Costed 195 Rs. I have more of less thoroughly checked for any external leak but could not find one. Not just me, also got it checked at Auroservice, with same result. Engine oil was not drained and checked, but visually and with a dip stick, it looks normal. Am approaching my 5 or 6th service, where service folks intend to remove the coolant, clean the system with warm water, amd use fresh coolant. Hoping that fixes the issue.
