Quote from memory, I reckon it should cost somewhere in the 5200~ ballpark, old version, a brand new piece. With GST you can add in all the ifs and buts.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Check the fuse first. It will be labeled "combination instrument" (iirc probably fuse no.6 or 8). And also check the other fuses as well.
then try to disconnect the console and reconnect it (you will need to pull out the head light unit to do that, by removing the top two bolts and the plastics lock tabs on the sides)
i doubt the console could go out just like that, considering it was working earlier (electronics you never know ). i wont be surprised if it's a fuse that blows out due to some wiring issues like bad earthing/lose connections/short circuit.

Sooo... I Called up all the service centers in mumbai to check if anyone had a console available. The only SVC with the console readily available was the one at Seawoods Navi Mumbai. Almost 50 kms away from where I live (100km roundtrip)

So went there today afternoon. They confirmed the console was bad and replaced it with a new one. Cost approx. 6100/- including all taxes. Ride back home, encounter about 20 minutes of medium rain and this is what I see after about 30 minutes

There are water droplets formed inside the console along with some fogging in multiple places. Called up the supervisor and told him/sent him pictures on WhatsApp.

He calls me back and tries to tell me that this is normal. Come back we will check it. Ride it for a couple of days etc and if it still occurs get it back we will do something about it. Lost my head and gave him a piece of my mind he has ordered a new piece and will have it for me in a weeks time.

I don't understand what the issue is with the mentality of indian service centers for vehicles. They try to go out of their way to convince you that things are normal when they are clearly not. Its as though they have to pay for faulty parts from their own pockets.

Anyways regret the long rant. Will wait a week for the replacement now. If anyone has any contacts for escalation in KTM plz do let me know. Thanks!

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle!

Hi mate..absolutely understand your point. I was in sane dilemma, the fun part is I ended up with buying a different bike than these. OK let me tell my points very simple, 390 is value for money comparer to d250 price. 390 can practically gives you a mileage of 22-25 in any city, duke250 I an expecting 30-33, again depend on your driving style. Power and feature wise never compare those, no bike can beat d390. I was considering d250 only becz of its refinement compared to 390, again refinement mean by the comfort which I am seeking the power mill. I would suggest you to go with d390 if you are not worried about mileage and engine refinement ( I mean in city conditions).

the wee bit of condensation is normal. occurs if the conditions are apt (high humidity and temp play a factor) and the console is not 'sealed' 100% perfectly. happens sometimes with the headlight also and dries out once in the sun.
i've had this happen once when i was stuck in a traffic jam for an hour in heavy rains.. otherwise the usual rain and washes don't usually cause the condensation. i am talking about hyderabad where the humidity is relatively low compared to coastal areas like chennai, kerala, mumbai.
So well and good if they have agreed to replace the console for you. If you want to escalate poor service, do email them at [email protected] and provide proof (pictures/bill/any comments you leave on job card.. i always sign the job card with a comment and keep a copy of it)

Did you get back the old console ?

It's happened to my headlights but never to the speedo console. This is with a brand new one and only like a short rain stint. I got the old one back with me. Thanks for the email address.

For now, Pain I'd recommend you to wait for the new part. But as I said to many posts earlier, slight fogging is not a problem around the perimeter of the console. This would automatically by itself disappear once the bike allowed to dry in sun for half an hour or even better if you start riding. Very mild fogging at the perimeter shouldn't be a cause of alarm -- for now. But, if you clearly see water "droplets" almost covering the entire inner portion of the console along with water residue/stain marks on the console that doesn't go way even after allowing it to dry in sun or where it's impossible to read the display, then by any means, it's imperative that we replace the console.

Your new console too might have the same condensation issue, it's just that the rain played havoc. Try riding it in the sun or park the bike and observe the console, she should clear up.

                  Cheers!

Thanks Bud. This speedometer is faulty for sure. Today my ABS light started blinking as soon as the key was switched on. It stops while riding and pops up again if the bike is stationary. Didn't notice this yesterday for some reason.

The ABS works fine though on both brakes. Took it to the Goregaon service center and they checked it with the KTM probe tool and found all ABS components working fine. Hence the senior tech there concluded the speedo console is faulty.

Updated the Seawoods SVC and send them a video of the blinking abs. Waiting for the replacement speedo for now.

On a separate note, installed a 2017 duke 390 adjustable clutch lever on the bike while at the svc. The lever costs about 338/- or so. Feels much thicker and sturdier than stock and you can adjust the lever throw so happy.

Apparently the brake side lever costs approximately 1900/- or so I thought the reason for the high cost was that it possibly comes with the new master cylinder as a set but the SVC says that they are sold separately. Any idea why the brake lever costs so much more than the clutch one? The SVC seems clueless regd this. I have ordered one in any case and will install when it arrives.

Trying to improve the braking performance of the stock brakes. Riding the CBR 250r with ABS has spoiled me a bit as the nissin brakes on the cbr are just lovely in comparison.

Have any of you guys tried these sintered brake pads by Nikavi. Costs about 400/- ?

Faulty ABS light tantrum and the likes on a new console definitely equates to a faulty console, do follow up post the second console change. Considering you've done all the diag necessary to rule out any ABS unit error. Secondly, GST did screw up pricing for most parts, last I checked the adjustable lever was close to 298~ odd and it's 338 now. If you can share a copy of your invoice receipt when you changed your levers, it should be mentioned in the parts changed list. Usually, such a price is justified when the entire master cylinder along with the lever is replaced. If you can share your receipt, we can get an even more clear picture.

                      Cheers!

                          Riders,
A very-very minute crack had started happening on the airbox of my D390(old gen) so I visited ASC but they are having only ONE airbox which was manufactured in the year 2014 and am not considering that. So which year manufactured airbox should I consider i.e 2015 or 16-17 one? And does the airbox cracking issue was rectified in 2015 models? Also I have personally seen a 2015 model with a big crack in the airbox so am in kind of dilema.

Airbox cracking cases have been one too many. 2015 or 2014 they do crack and it's primarily due to poor design and more so exacerbated by the kind of glue they use to fuse them together. Secondly, you can get the 2015, at least it won't hurt one's ego knowing they got a new 2015 box. Reason being, though there have been speculations that the 2015 airbox was improved due to the same fatigue induced cracking issue, quite many stillhad their airboxes cracked on a 2015. I'd suggest you change it to 2015.

                            Cheers!
