  • Duke 390 2016 paper realated issue. Need help

I have bought ktm duke 390 2016 bs3 model 1month ago this bike was registered on dealer's name because it is a bs3 model and from march 31st bs3 models passing were discontinued from rto so they registered it on their name and he transfered it to my name now i have done 1000k km on my bike, and need to do 1st service when i visited that showroom from where i have purshased this bike it was shut down and bajaj manager told me to visit any ktm authorised service station for servicing however i don't have service book when i asked him he said ktm don't provide service book they have app in play store you can download it and do servicing, now i have tax invoice, insurance paper however i don't have RC book because it comes within 3 months thats what manager told me at the time of purchase. So is there really any app in play store or i should have service book for servicing and to claim warranty if there is any issue. Please suggest need help ASAP

        Hello guys
And the nightmare continues for me
So far all issues fixed by my mechanic who used to work as a ktm head engg
        Alloy wheels aligned
        Malfunction light now goes off
        Abs completely fixed
Now theres a major problem with the bike
        Last week i noticed
        The radiator fan stopped working
Upon checking it was discovered that the radiator fan fuse had blown off
        Disconnected speedo
        Replaced all relays
        Tried a different ecu
        Tried a different alternator
Now the bike is at service since 5 days and they have opened all wiring to check where the wiring is causing a short because of which the fuse is repeatedly blowing. They have checked each and every possible thing but still the fuse blows off after the fan runs for abt 5 mins. now they claim the whole wiring needs to be replaced which costs 8500 plus labor. Any help would be appreciated guys thanks.

Blown off fuses are usually a sign of excessive current draw from the system(battery). This has two reasons...one the fan is running under a lot of load(possibly internal damage to the fan's commutator and stator windings being worn out)- and second there is indeed a short to ground which is causing battery current to drain dramatically!!!
But u say 5 min after running the fan; ask ur mechanic to see if there is any voltage fluctuations during the run on period, as the fan is rotating , it heats up and expands, causing the journal to seize in the housing bearing, after the fuse is blown, immediately attach a different fuse and Try to run the fan on, check the voltage drop and current draw. (Use a higher rating fuse by +5amps only for test)! Let me know if it works.
          All the best

He has tried a brand new fan but still same issue. Tomorrow they will strip the complete wiring and will check all wires individually. Apparently there are 400 connections. I really hope dont have to install new wiring harness.

Have they checked continuity of the wires with respect to end to end couplers? And continuity of wires wrt to ground? Do pay close attention to oxidizes and faulty end couplers.

This would automatically by itself disappear once the bike allowed to dry in sun for half an hour or even better if you start riding. Very mild fogging at the perimeter shouldn't be a cause of alarm -- for now. But, if you clearly see water "droplets" almost covering the entire inner portion of the console along with water residue/stain marks on the console that doesn't go way even after allowing it to dry in sun or where it's impossible to read the display, then by any means, it's imperative that we replace the console.

Your new console too might have the same condensation issue, it's just that the rain played havoc. Try riding it in the sun or park the bike and observe the console, she should clear up.

It would approximately equate to around 8k including labor and the like. If you are the kind of guy who prefer aggressive downshifts and always keep the engine on the steam of things, slipper clutch can come in handy during those downshifts, plus the lever feel is comparatively softer compared to the old 5 spring setup. The entire clutch setup along with the clutch case is replaced when opting for slipper clutch

This would definitely warrant a replacement as the water droplets are clearly visible on the inside of the console as opposed to the perimeter of the console glass.

What murtazam is absolutely one worth considering. If the draw is excess from the fan side, the chances of fuses blowing out are high. Since you've mentioned the fan runs fine for 5 mins and then the fuse blows, and now that you've tested all possible combinations that can be done. It's either got to be frayed wiring which is arching for faulty ground. And one pointer is oxidation, since yours is a test drive bike, I'd strongly consider you to check for oxidation on all the contact points before a discectomyof the wiring.

So, what was the cause and solution offered to the Malfunction Light coming on frequently? You had the Malfunction light throwing tantrums. And I presume also the ABS lights stays off as it should.

                        Cheers!

First service done at 875kms-oil change, chain adjustment and cleaning and oiling, through bolt tightening, brake and overall check up-checked the air box-it was fine-total cost Rs1870--the rpm limit is still at 7200rpm with the head mechanic telling me to get it adjusted only post 2000kms. Rotated the handlebar a little upward for a slightly more open riding posture.
Strange thing was that since my bike is a BS3 model billed by the dealer to himself on 31/3/17(technically i'm the second owner),the computer software was only allowing opening of the second service job card and was not allowing the first service to be written-the service incharge then proceeded by writing routine service and told me to keep the bill as record and to get the second service done before Oct2017 to regularize the service according to schedule.

Ktm svc was unable to fix tue mil light. My mechanic fixed it who was a ktm engg previously. Checked with diag tool no errors. Just reached svc and noticed they have fixed the wiring issue too. The bike is yet to be assembled though. Hope for the best. Will keep you guys updated. And yes the abs and abs light works perfectly fine. As far as the Slipper clutch is concerned I am mainly installing it for a lighter clucth aggressive downshifts well yes maybe twice or thrice a day.

                              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                              THE END

Hope to get some system related docs of KTM engines...we may be able to know why certain lights flash on the console! These are certain tweeks that the Engineers add to the bikes for faster and reliable diagnosis. Waiting for that day in our country. Btw don't confuse flashing lights to OBD pulse counters.... some may point out that...but there is a difference.
