  • Disc brake setup

Finally the time of a second upgrade has come for my Nov 02 Fiero clocked 97,200kms.The first change was the headlight upgrade to a round headlamp of FX which was years back.

Now I am planning to change my front drum brakes to an Apache 150(A150) disc brake setup. The last time I tried to set it up,there was a shortage of spares so postponed it. Now the dealer says he has all the stuff & I can get this done in a days time.

    Things I will need.
    1. Right lower fork (A150)
    2. Disc plate (A150)
    3. Wheel hub (Fiero FX)
    4. Master cylinder (A150)
    5. Spokes (Fiero FX)

Do let me know if I have missed out anything on the spares part.

Also I was thinking,if I could install a RTR disc?

Your suggestions will be welcomed & help me getting the right setup for my Fiero & make it stop better & quicker

        • If you want 100/90, you can also try Michelin Sirac 100/90. I think its around 2.4k

                • but its mentioned for the front tyres and not the rear ones!! but wat do u say about dunlops?

                  • I had Dunlop Geo cruiser 100/90x18 running on my RX, it was a decent tyre (never used it in rains). So my exp with it is limited.

Sirac 100/90x18, I'm currently running it on the ZMA at rear. No issues so far, including riding on wet roads. A tubeless tyre can also be used as tubed tyre, if needed.

                      My advice ( I own a fierof2 2003 dec model and currently having a dunlop rear tyre(100/90) )

1.stick to the original size tyre that is recommended by tvs I felt a considerable drop in topend after switching to 100/90 size tyre.

2.I had a very bad experience on rainy days forget rain water even if you go through a patch of wet road the tyre fails to give you a good grip and it skids when you break at speeds of around 40kmph.

                      Thats my experience with dunlop.

                      Regards,
                      A.wasay

PS:- But it lasts longer and doesnt wearout easily.

                        • TinTin,
Why dont you try Michelins? They are soft compund tyres & offer better road grip but the life is less, say close to 15k kms. You can try M45 3.25 X 18 or a 4.00 X 18. Other option is MRF Meteor 100/90/18.

                          • michelins r quite expensive. i know they have a softer rubber, but i recently changed my front rubber to dunlop zebra Y plus. i actually felt the difference, it was very soft as compared to the original TVS rubber(this TVS tyre lasted for more than 65ks!!!).

thats y i m more interested in dunlop rear rubber.

I have been using the Dunlop GeoCruiser 100/90/18" on my bike since the last 30+K kms./4 years. I agree with awasay on this-there are NO signs of degradation. Its really surprising that it lasts this long, considering the stock TVS 90/90/18" tyre was completely bald in 2 years/20K kms.!

Yes, the top end has reduced significantly-the bike used to do about 110-115 on the speedo earlier, which was 100 kmph true topspeed. Mileage also went down by about 5kmpl.

I disagree with the loss of stability bit. My bike used to skid a lot earlier with the TVS tyres, have tried another 90/90 profile tyre on the Classic Pulsar but that was not much different, cornering was scary in both.
The added thickness adds to stability&that is the reason why I opted for the extra 10 mm., at the cost of losing some mileage&top end. There is no other effect on the bike-chain has been fine, it does not touch the swingarm anywhere, no wobbling etc.

I would overall suggest you go for this tyre, tubeless tyres will not work well with traditional spoked rims, as they cannot provide an air tight sealing.

Now the good news for you is Dunlop GeoCruiser is available in 90/90/18" also. You need to take a pick between mileage&top end vs.more stability.
                              Prices no idea.
                              Quench my thirst with gasoline!
