Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
Hi guys.
Good stuff going around here, been closely watching this forum .
Its been some time that my bikes taking all the thrashing and everythings intact except for the chain and sprockets .
Say if I was to downsize to a 17"(planning for impulse spokes) on the rear and I wanted a longer gearing or at least as good as the stock. what options are available with the sprockets ??
Im using a f2 .
Thanks

Hi rIbu,
Best to go step-by-step to see which mod/alteration will suit your needs best...
- change front (gearbox) sprocket size
- change rear wheel sprocket size
- change rear wheel rim size
- change tyre size
One tooth in front is equal to almost 3 1/2 teeth in the back.
In this way, you can see the pros and cons regarding performance of your bike.
On a personal note, I have 14T GB sprocket on my FX and that gives me more top speed.
I have noticed engine is more free on highways.
Plus, not much drop in pick-up to complain about.
(quick fix!)
Impulse has straight pull spokes AFAIK, so please check if your bike's cone / wheel hub needs to be changed. Don't know how that will work. Or try Yezdi's rim or other 2 stroke 17-inchers.
Hope this helpsRide it like you stole it! But buy your own helmet.

Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
Hi prd8r
Thank you for your reply . And sorry sbout the late reply .
Like you said I was thinking about long gears only . I prefer longer gears most of the time . Without the 5th cog its a pain in the highway otherwise .
Well i should have made myself clearer .my doubt is regarding what is available in the market that can fit the fiero .
I asked a nearby mech and he said to go with the apache setup , he has no idea what their sizes are even . Should I get that(apaches @ rs1050~) or the original spare of the fiero (rs 950 ~) or am I sposd to change part by part . If someone could shod some light on what part to get. I could go and source . Im looking for longer final gear ratio .
About the spokes yea I guess its not an easy swap . But since I have to change the tyres as well . Impulse has 110 section gripp tyre from ceat . The section It's not too less not too much so thats why im a bit attracted to those .will have to ask around.
Thanks

Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
Hi Dev_111
I hope you understand that your engine needs to exhale out harder only when it breathes and works harder . That said your gearing plays a crucial role here too . If you want more top speed u need more power !!! And a longer gearing . By removing the catcon of your stock exhaust ur going to achieve literally no results worth the effort .
If you really want to get a free'er flowing exhaust . Why dont you fabricate a bend pipe and pop in one of those mufflers and leave the stock silencer aside(its getting harder to find stock stuff ) .
^^ this is just my personal opinion .
Hope It helps

Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
my bike is emitting black smoke at full throttle checked the spark plug. it is little oily. I think I need to go for new ring piston set. friends , shall I get it done immediately or wait till it loses its performance? so far, its running well. this is the 2nd time I need to go for engine work in 2 lac kms which include some harsh rides like Ladakh & Spiti trip. This bike indeed a quality stuff!Last edited by Dev_111; 02-03-2014, 09:30 PM.

Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
seniors pls advise!finally I have decided to go for rtr180 bore and piston for my fiero. pls clarify my last hour doubts:- do I need to change the timing chain also? if yes, why is this required?- can I manage by adding few extra gaskets instead of lathe work on the head?- do I need to change the valves?- will a pulsar 200 carb be fine for the new set up?-regular engine oil or 20-50?looking for yr quick guidance.

Re: Fiero/FieroF2/FieroFx
Hey dev_111
I have just upgraded my engine now to 180cc . Its a great set up. But im using an apache head . Didnt have to change the timing chain so probably neither with the fiero head . But please confirm before you proceed .
If you add the gaskets its going to raise the compression . The lathe job that is required is to reduce compression .
P200 uses bs29 carb ?? Then that'd be fine .
Do check the valves for seating and replace if required.
20w40 works fine . This is one tough son of a bike .
Since you've run close to 2lakhs. Better get your connecting rods replaced as well.
Hope this helps .
